Kirkland Signature (Costco) golf balls (MERGED) (NO BST POSTS)

Ok, just played 9 holes, conditions were dry / non-windy, but I was playing SUPER fast because sundown was approaching. Finished 9 holes (par 36) in just over an hour walking. Normal ball is Pro V1.

- Kirkland ball seemed 5-10 yards shorter off the tee with more sidespin.

+ Iron distance seemed similar to ProV1.

+ Iron / wedge spin seemed about the same, maybe slightly less than ProV1. One 20 yard wedge shot in particular rolled out a few yards, I expected it to stick.

+ Didn't notice any difference putting, my putting was amazing today, despite being in a rush and wearing my glove on all putts!

- Wear seems worse than Pro V1. I can go 18 holes with a Pro V1 with no noticeable wear (unless I drive a ball off a tree), but the Kirkland ball shows some wear. So not quite up to par.

+ Price is amazing, on the last hole I sliced my tee shot, then hit a hook with my provisional. Found my tee shot and just abandoned the provisional, the ball was so cheap I didn't care about losing it.

Overall it's a nice ball, BUT I think I will stick to ProV1s. I don't spend a whole lot of money on golf balls (4x boxes of ProV1s during sale time have lasted me the season), the major cost / investment is my time. I don't want to play with anything less than the best, and I think the Kirkland balls are slightly worse (though I admit a much better value).

Have played eight rounds with the K-sigs now. My last round I alternated between K-sigs and Provs.

Went to Costco and doubled up my K-sig supply to 50doz. I play some tight courses so that won't last me as long as you'd think.

600 balls??

His home course must have "environmentally sensitive" hazards or water on every hole

Surely it's a typo and he bought 5dz. LOL

He posted a picture of many boxes stacked up. He's not taking any chances ;)

Review # 451 here..............

Costs like a distance ball.

Plays like a tour level ball.

Thanks for reading my review.

Callaway Mavrik Max 10.5°
Callaway XR 16 3 wood
Callaway Mavrik Max 3 thru 5 hybrids
Srixon z565 6 thru PW
48°, 52° & 58° Cleveland CBX wedges
Ping Sigma 2 Kushin C flat stick

All subject to change in the blink of an eye.........and I blink a lot.

Played 18 with one yesterday and it actually felt firmer off the driver than my usual Pro V1, but similar distances and spin with every type of shot I played. It was cooler than I'm used to so maybe that contributed to the feel difference.

Too soon to tell for sure but personally it seemed to perform like a typical urethane tour ball so considering the price I'm optimistic.

Why all the hoarding of the ball. I don't see prices increasing or Costco discontinuing it anytime soon.

I think people were just taking advantage of the free shipping.

And because every time some really cheap deal on urethane golf balls shows up, there's a GolfWRX feeding frenzy. It's an emergent phenomenon of large online forums, I guess. Looking here several times a day and seeing everyone talking about how great a deal it is and how many they've ordered, the whole thing takes on a life of its own.

I've gotten caught up in one of the earlier frenzies several years ago. Then I'm sitting there with 20 or 30 dozen golf balls I'd have never even considered buying one dozen of on my own. Gets pretty crazy. Fortunately that one time eating a $100+ loss on a bunch of golf balls I sold off for not much more than the cost of shipping seems to have inoculated me against future outbreaks.

But it's not a really cheap urethane ball. It's a really, really, cheap urethane ball.

Big difference.

I played my way through a dozen B330s several years ago, just to see what they were like. IMO if you like the B330s (and can get them for $26/dozen) you'll probably be just as happy sticking with them. In my experience it was a really firm golf ball that spins like the dickens!

Well I meant if he really, truly preferred the B330s to other balls. A lot of urethane balls seem pretty similar (ProV1, ProV1x, TP, TPx, even Chrome Soft to me seems pretty ProV1-like) but I found the B330s to be different. More like an old Callaway Tour iS or Srixon XV, real firm and spinny. I would expect the Z-Sig to be more in the middle-of-the-road range and not extreme like I perceived the B330s to be.

Or maybe that was me. I really like ProV1 (or ProV1x) and do fine with Chrome Soft or some of the other middle-of-the-road balls. And I *hated* the B330s. So my reasoning was if you love the B330s those others might be disappointing. OTOH maybe he just bought B330s because he found a good deal...

It's interesting. I'm not a premium ball player but find more then my share of ProV1s on the course. To me the KSig feels softer off the irons. I played a few holes yesterday with both Driver felt the same, and putter felt the same. Oddly my short irons spun more with the KSig but of course that could be because I'm not very consistent.

Admittedly, I am a frenzy participant but I was disciplined enough to get only 3 pkgs (6 dozen). At least for now. The problem with frenzy buying is that before I'm finished with the 6 dozen, the next best frenzy ball will come out, and I'm sure I'll get some of those, leaving the Kirklands sitting on the shelf. And the process repeats itself because great deals are always available, albeit not 2 dozen top notch urethane balls for $30. But I'm sure there will be a new great deal on balls sometime in the near future which I'll "take advantage" of, leaving my remaining stash of Kirklands sitting on the shelf, as well as the frenzy balls I bought before them. I wish I was disciplined enough to just wait until I have gone through my frenzy ball collection before I buy more.......yeah, right. Am I really saving money by doing this? No, but it's fun!!!

Simple - people like value (we're cheap). And things that are a perceived as an extraordinary value - either the price goes up, or the supply runs out. Typical consumer behavior.

The difference is the return policy Costco has. So you buy a frenzy amount and decide to move on you can take them back to Costco.

Costco's in Houston area won't be getting them until summer according to my local store. Stating they're seasonal inventory. Not in there system as of today. Hey Costco, if you're creeping the thread, we play golf year round in Texas FYI!

Why not just order them online? They are delivered to your doorstep? That's easier than going to the store.

I will! But, 2.7 miles to store, 3.6 additional miles to my country club. Would be nice to stop in and grab them when needed.

Count me among those who don't like the B330 either. Was given a box for Christmas two years ago and can't remember being happier to finish a box of balls and move onto something different.

Send them to your country club and have them put the balls in your locker.

You're welcome - I just saved you a step. :)

Thx! But I'm concerned the 600 boxes I order with free shipping just won't fit in my locker.

Weather conditions were much better to evaluate this ball today. Really nice feel off all clubs, driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, putter. Pretty much a soft feel, not harsh or clicky, but not as soft as the Chrome Soft. Didn't see the high launch I saw last Friday under different weather conditions, though I would put it at medium to high. I did not hit any balls side-by-side for distance comparisons but had a sense that I lost a little bit off the driver, maybe 3-5 yards. Off the irons I got the distances that I would normally expect.

For some reason today I had distance control issues around and on the greens. Chips and putts sometimes long, sometimes short. Also, I don't get the spin on the ball on my approach shots that others seem to see but, then again, I would never describe our greens as soft, even if just watered.

It is a really great ball for the money and I could easily make it my day to day ball.

But if you do this you miss out on the fabulous value of a hot dog or polish dog and a drink for $1.50. Heck, throw in a $1.99 slice of cheese pizza and feast for $3.49.
