Mizuno jpx 900 forged

How is the spin and height with these compared to MPs?

Not by club but by loft number. A lot of complaining on the web that the 6 irons only spins around 5000rpms but that 6i is really a shorter shafted 5i where Id think 5000rpms are just right.

So anyone compared them?

Had them in Hand yesterday but they dont have demos in our pro shop. They are sick looking for sure!

I was getting 5000 rpm on the 6 iron on trackman at the store.

I don't have any numbers, but when I it them at the range, I was hitting them pretty high. Pretty much the same height as my Apex.

I went for a fitting ready to purchase these. They were terrible for me. Low launching, hard feeling and didn't spin nearly enough for me.

MP25 10000% better - just about as forgiving as well.

Which shafts did you try with the JPX 900? I initially demo'd with the PX LZ 5.5 and 6.0 and they were too low launching for me. I then tried the KBS C-Taper Lite and they came alive. Nice mid-high penetrating trajectory.

I too think part of it has to do with the shaft. I had a test club (6 iron jpx 900F with project x lz graphite) for a couple days to compare against my 6 iron jpx 850C with orochi graphite. After about 20 swings with each at home on my skytrak, averages showed the jpx 900 -1 deg on launch angle, -2 deg on decent angle, -1 yard height vs the jpx 850. The jpx 900 was +20rpm more on backspin. The 900 is 1 degree stronger....but difference in data was pretty much negligible. Out on the course no noticble difference in ball flight.

Just had a sudden feeling of dread about my order as something popped into my head.

The pro fitting me said that when you add length to Mizuno irons, Mizuno make the club more upright as standard.

I’m having +1/2 inch and I hit the +1/2 inch club on a lie board and was marking the tape right in the centre. He put the order through as +1/2 inch, 2 degrees upright.

I just suddenly thought… if the +1/2 inch makes it more upright as standard, and then it goes through as 2 degrees upright, will that mean I get 4 degrees upright?!!

On the order spec sheet I received through from Mizuno it states the lie as 63 degrees (2 upright).

Adding length will make the club more upright. If you hit the lie board with a plus 1/2" length, then you are fine. I'm the same way, plus 1/2" and 2 upright. Adding 1" length is about 1 degree upright if I remember correctly.

I had a fitting today for JPX 900 forged and HM. Really nice clubs. The numbers for the forged with stiff Recoil 95 shaft were best and felt really good so even though Mizuno only had a 7/6 iron to test I am planning, with all the favorable comments here, to bite the bullet and order 4-PW, AW plus S5 55* SW and 60* GW ... + 1/2 inch and 2* up... am I mad!! Does anyone know the swing weight across the range for the forged with stiff Recoil 95's + 1/2" ???

So the LZ 5.5's didn't work for me, I prefer a lightweight shaft in my irons, so I demo'd the 900 Forged with the Modus 105's and C-Taper Lites, both regular flex. Went with the Modus 105...really made the head come alive and brought out that forged feel we all love. the C-Tapler lites were nice as well but felt more tip stiff - the Modus just felt smoother to me. Looking forward to putting these in play.

So I'm a few days late in doing this but I wanted to post a quick recap of my first on course experience with my new 900f with the LZ 5.5's. Let me preface this all by saying I'm not a low capper, but I'm not a 20 either. I'm around an 11, but I wanted these from the first time I saw them....they were just beautiful to look at. And my 5 or so sessions in testing just proved I could hit them and they performed for me and my swing. As someone who came over to these from Cally XR's, the feel of these mizzys are just awesome. Now I've never hit anything in MP line or any other forged club with enough reps to compare them to, but it really is awesome. Next is flight...for me it is perfect....not ballooning at all and not low at all. In looking down at the club at address, it looks great and for me, inspires confidence as the top line has a little meat to it. It's no butter knife and there's very little offset, which I didn't even really know was bothering me until I got these 900f's. I really thought shot over shot I might see a loss in distance versus the XR's butI did not. My only 2 swings with the 5 iron didn't go great, but hey this was the 1st time out. The last thing we're the shafts....the XR's had the stock 80 gram stiff TT steels in them, so of course I figured I would stay as close to that weight as I could so i tried the c tapers, the xp 95's and the modus 105....none of those performed as well with my swing as the lz's. So if you're thinking you need to stay light....maybe you don't. Hit lots of different ones as you may be surprised. The extra weight should help me slow down my sometimes too quick transition. All in all, it was a great first outing. The irons are great looking and feeling and performing for me. They're definitely worth a look if you're considering new irons and don't be scared off regardless of your cap....you gotta like what you're looking down at. And by all means, get fitted. This was way longer than I thought it would be.

I received my JPX 900F 5-PW irons with the XP 115 R shafts and went right out to the range yesterday. They felt good but so did the MP-25s. I packed up the 25s but went out to play a quick 9 before sending them away. After the 1st hole there was no doubt these were way better for me. Length and dispersion were very good and the Mizuno feel is there. I didn't hesitate to send the 25s out after my round. I think I shot about 2 over. These are going to be a huge seller for Mizuno IMO. They have a nice high ball flight and feel great plus look good at address, small offset and interesting thin sole. Today was very windy but I didn't seem to have any problems. Highly recommend.

Interesting observations. I'm a 10 handicap and found that I was overswinging with the LZ's to try to get them to perform, my buddy said my tempo was way quicker than normal. but i've been playing KBS C-Taper 90's for a long time so i'm just used to lighter weight and liked how the Modus 105 felt in the 900F. Of course will have to see how the combo performs on the course...the true test.

Trust me, no one was more surprised on the shaft deal than I was. The modus 105 were a close 2nd to the lz's, but i just felt like the lz's were giving me just a slightly higher flight. I hope they perform on course for you as well as they did for me. They really are an awesome iron! Good luck man!

I tried these at the outdoor range Wednesday with theven modus 105. Thought they were just alright. Feel was OK Launched kind of low. Didn't believe the hype at all.

Went back today and tried the hot metal with the recoil 95 stiff since I have ping g with recoils 110 f4. The hot metal felt really good but the shots were going high and left. Was like what the heck, put the recoil in the jpx 900 forged. Wow. Straight, nice flight and felt amazing. I'm in love. But don't know if I will get rid of my g's

I've owned the 900Fs with LZ for about two weeks now and played once and hit the range about 6 times. They're excellent clubs. The feel is what separates these clubs from what I was using before (and the other clubs I demo-ed). I Think people get wrapped around the axle on height and spin too often. I'm a pretty consistent ball striker and it's not uncommon for two well-struck range balls with the exact same club to have entirely different trajectories and spin differently.

Guys

Starting to think I might have made a mistake with these. Just need some reassurance from strangers on here.

I hit them really well at the fitting and ended up going for the modus 105 shaft. Had super flight and feel etc

Now in real world terms, 3 rounds later, I've had 3 of my worst ball striking rounds in years.

It may just be a coincidence or i might just be expecting too much too soon. It may be the weight or length of the shaft, maybe even the fact I was fitted into 1 degree upright with the mizunos.. who knows

For info, I'm coming from rocketbladez with kbs tour stiff shafts that were completely standard lie.

I'm now in modus 105 and 1 degree upright. Also noticed the shafts are smaller that the standard rocketbladez ones.

Finding the shots I do connect with have much lower flight and not going nearly as far. I can accept the loss of distance so it's not a big deal as long as it's more accurate.

I really enjoyed these during the fitting so fingers crossed.

Guess I'm just looking some strangers on here to tell me to be patient and it'll come lol.

Had the same experience until I changed the shafts to what I normally play. Also set them to 850 F lofts which are weaker in the longer irons. Became a different set of irons.

You think it might just be the weight of the modus then?

I'm curious to know if the fitting shafts are longer than the ones they put in my set.

I was fitted as standard length for both my sets of clubs but the Taylormade are longer.

I'm hoping it's just an adjustment period as I really liked these during the fitting.

Just picked up a set of 900F yesterday. Was fitted for 800 Pro's in 2011 (?) with dynamic gold XP S300 hard stepped once. This was when I finally started playing golf again after about 10 years of twice a year play. Long story short, I have absolutely loved the 800 Pro's and they have been a great iron for the last 5+ seasons. As this golf season comes to a close for us in the northeast US, I decided to pull the trigger on a new set. Really wanted Mizuno and I went back to my fitter and we immediately narrowed it down to the MP-25 vs. 900F. I thought they felt almost identical and although I preferred the look of the MP-25, decided to go with the 900F due to gapping at both ends of the bag. Ended up with 4 Iron 900HM and 5-GW 900F with ProjectX 6.5. On to the pictures as they look absolutely stunning.

4 Iron:

PW 900F vs. 800 Pro:

A couple of thoughts. The 900F look better in the short irons. The PW and GW especially. Just a much cleaner look. The 4 Iron HM is a big club and you can see the back of the club when down by the ball. I've only played one round, so its early, but they feel fantastic. I know some have said boron impacts the feel, but I think they feel every bit as good as the 800 Pros.

Has anyone tested the Jpx 900 forged irons with the project x lz 6.0 graphite shafts? If so was it stiff, very stiff, or too stiff? Thanks

I picked up a set of 4 - PW after getting good results hitting off of a mat. I'll be re-shafting them as they have project X lz 5.0 shafts. I'd give the shafts a shot if they were the 6.0 or 6.5, but I have some extra Nippon 120 X, kbs c taper lite x, kbs tour v 120 X, and/or Nippon Super Peening Orange X2 I'll be using instead.

I've been playing Titleist ap2 for the most part this year, with a few rounds with some 716 cb, 716 mb, apex pro 16, z745, j40 cb, and probably a few others. I've had great rounds with other sets, but I always ended up back with the ap2. Plenty of other sets are longer, most of my other sets are softer and better looking, but nothing has matched the 716 ap2 forgiveness.

If the jpx 900 forged can match the forgiveness of the ap2, I already know they will be in my bag for a while. By all accounts they should feel better than the ap2, with the jacked up lifts they will be longer. That's not super important obviously, but I won't say no to some extra distance as long as I can be accurate.

I'll likely update this thread with my experience or start a review thread.

This video just came out yesterday...another review/comparison of the JPX900 forged.

He compared it to his current gamer Callaway XR Pro. The JPX900 launched 1 deg higher and had more spin....didn't mention data for apex but they looked about the same. They weren't as long as the XR, but were more consistent distances.

Any more comparisons between the 900 forged and iblades?

I hit them both - I blades are much smaller and more demanding but actually feel better and have a better flight. 900F so low and lack spin.

900F spun normal for me and I was hitting them the same height as my Apex. I thought the iblades were pretty meh in my opinion. Nothing special.
