Mizuno jpx 900 forged

Going to order these soon, surprised at how good the PX LZs felt when testing. What shafts are people finding works best with these heads?

 

I usually like a lighter shaft, but in the forged, I was loving the lz 5.5. The modus 105's were my next fav. I'm ordering mine this week.

Does anyone else think or believe that Mizuno going forward is going to use it's JPX moniker more so than the MP? Kind of like how Ping has done with all of their woods now. They are all G's. Mizuno has also pretty much gone this route with their woods as well with all of them being JPX. I have seen all three of these new JPX irons in the store, and to me they pretty much cover all of the basis for irons. The JPX tour is very thin soled, very bladey, beautiful club. It's smaller and more player looking than a lot of the MP irons that have been released in the last 10 years. The 900 forged is a player's iron, no doubt, but is large enough to offer some forgiveness and will appeal to a lot of golfers. The 900 HM is good looking for a GI iron and it definitely targets people who like or gravitate toward that type of iron. My gut feeling is that Mizuno will, of course, still offer MP's, but I have the feeling that they will be pretty much pure muscle back irons going forward. Which is the way it should be anyway in my opinion.

Can these be ordered from mizuno with weaker lofts?

I would be really curious to see what the numbers on these would be with lofts in between the hotmetal, and the tour model. Or even the same lofts as the tour.

Yes. They will normally bend 2° in any direction at request when ordering.

Ordered mine 1* weak. Used one round and they are rocket launchers. High ball flight with very little release on the greens. No problem hitting low if needed.

Would it be dumb to do a combo set of hot metal 4 or 5 through 7 and forged 8-AW? I hit the demo hot metal 6 iron and loved it. I don't need as much forgiveness on my short irons though.

I think it's a great idea myself. I didn't, bought the Forged 4-G, but am thinking about buying the HM 4-5-6.

Tough choices: I could trade in my MP-54's, new Vapor Pro Combo's, a Vapor Fly 3 hybrid, and new Engage 52 and 58 for dang near no cost of the JPX 900 forged. So tough.

Just saw the 900 tours tonight for the first time....really digging them. They would look sick with Ctapers in them...flat finish and all. Also, mizuno finally got the 9 iron and pw to look the part! Nize!

I would bend them weak as well. Used to playing with a 46 pitching wedge.

Demo'd the 900 Forged today with Project X LZ 5.5 shafts and walked out with 5-PW. Very similar setup to my current SLDR irons...perfect tweener irons. Loved the feel and was probably 3-5yds longer than my SLDR's, not that i care about those extra yards, would rather have consistency. Love the matte finish and the stock NDMC grips are my go to grips so that was a plus. Looking forward to taking these babies out on the course.

I hit the forger the other day and was amazed by the feel! I really wanted the tours but I will have to do some more testing. I'm now thinking of going 4-gw forged and adding a hot metal 4 iron bent to 18° to act like a 2 iron. Does this sound crazy?

The only thing crazy is that I think that Mizuno will only bend the HM irons +/- 2 degrees, but I could be wrong (4 iron is 21*). Also, in either case keep in mind that the 4, 5, and 6 irons in the HM have 0* of bounce, bending them strong would mean negative bounce.

Too bad on loft gaps bet the 900F/ 900 Tour combo would be very popular.

Does negative or zero bounce affect anything negatively? And if so how? I am thinking of bending a set strong and may have that issue in the long irons, thanks.

The club will tend to dig more, depending on the leading edge grind.

4 iron bent to 19* would easily work as a 3 iron. As for neg bounce, just hit the ball first...c'mon. lol.

Just to get them to the lofts that I am used to. They would still be about 1* strong if they were bent 2* weak, but I think I can make that work for me.

Hey..for those who currently play forged irons - how badly are the irons loft or lie off when you send them to be checked and re-bent - assuming you are conscious in checking your irons yearly? I'll presume this is needed for the 900 forge or hot metal because of the softer metal.

Its so nice that they really are going the same distance (pretty much at least) so we're free to mix and match as much as we want. Write me down for 5 and 6 in HM and 7-P/G in the forged.

That being said I LOVE the fact that the HMs arent too low in spin, so they are a true replacement in the longer irons: Easier to hit, higher launching, effortless AND(big key) they still land soft.

Well I made the plunge today and got the 900 Forged w/ S300 AMT after trying the Hot Metal and the Forged. The forged just felt so good and as silly as this sounds my mishits were better with the forged.

Did you hit the PX LZ shafts also? Those are the two I am deciding between for the forged.
