Tiger - Another Back Surgery, Out at Least 6 Months

First of all, we know that Tiger's camp likes to spin stories. That being said, I don't think Notah saying Tiger was striping it was a lie (he probably was striping it; its Tiger Woods). The problem was that he was getting these spasms and decided enough is enough and couldn't handle the pain anymore.

How dare you! He is a liar and Satans right hand man because he doesnt share every nuance of his health and life with the world. Lets not forget he is the only the second human, and first famous human, to ever cheat on his wife. He kicks kittens while lying to his best bud all because he wants the spotlight.....

The reality is he does what he has done his whole career when it comes to the media and personal information BECAUSE of his experiences with them. How people think he or anyone else owes them ANY information on their personal life is mind boggling.

For those curious about where his priorities life, its right there in the press release. I hope he plays pain free again for selfish reasons but I really hope he gets some relief from the pain so he can enjoy the small things with his kids.

When Tiger recovers from the surgery he should go see Jimmy Ballard. It worked for Rocco with his back problems.

I've been saying this since'14.

He already was coached by the anti Jimmy Ballard, Sean Foley. Why not try to go to the guy who has helped many with bad backs.

It was mentioned a few posts ago about Tiger's best days were when he had a lateral shift and fast hands. It's exactly what Jimmy teaches.

Tiger is finished......4 serious back surgeries??? 4????

I have a bad back & neck, but I adjusted.....started doing Yoga, Strengthening my core, even going to a Chiro instead of surgery.

6 Month later I'm hitting the ball better than I have in years & I'm back in the gym.

He has to realize surgeries will not work & he has to be able to cope with the pain which Yoga/core work will help do. His ego is letting Dr's convince him he can get back to 95% the truth is he will never be 75% at surgery 4. He needs to retire & go one with life cause his golf career has been over for a while & now the nail has been driven in.

you do realize that not every back injury is treatable effectively with chiro and yoga, right?

Of course not, you also need Greek yogurt and those bracelets with the magnet bits on the ends.

HAHA funny guys.....You do realize when you are on Back Surgery 4 you are 1 surgery past grasping at straws right?????

This is 100% on Tiger & his Ego.....He was done in 15 but he kept grasping for career saving treatments when the real answer was right in front of his face. Dude was in so much pain he barely could get into his putting stance (If you paid attention you would have noticed this long ago).

Let me guess what will happen in late 2017 early 2018.....he fights his way back plays 2 rounds in a tournament & withdraws AGAIN. His career has been OVER, the way he keeps trying to play & then listens to surgeons his normal life is probably over as well.

......or the least invasive procedures didn't work as hoped so now they moved to the next procedure. But it can't be that simple, Golf WRX has it all figured out.

From the mouth of Steve Kerr who had one back surgery and is missing coaching games because of symptoms from the back surgery

""I can tell you if you're listening out there, if you have a back problem, stay away from surgery," he said. "I can say that from the bottom of my heart. Rehab, rehab, rehab. Don't let anybody get in there." Freddie Couples adhered to that philosophy as well...

For those unaware that Bobby Jones spent much of his later life in a wheelchair with back problems from a disease not surgery..

".Jones made an appearance each spring at the Masters, even playing in the event until 1948, when his life took a tragic turn. Afflicted that year with a rare spinal disease called syringomyelia, Jones had to give up golf and was soon forced into a wheelchair. He took his final trip to the Masters in 1968. Finally succumbing to his illness, Jones died on December 18, 1971, at the age of sixty-nine. Through it all, he refused to complain about his fate, always presenting a model of perseverance and character".

I have been hearing this general

*Back surgery does not work*

Theme coming up

From leaders at the juncture of medical care and how it is delivered.

However, each case, I would imagine, is specific to the patient and their objectives.

Nobody should be surprised that Tiger is having another back operation. I was shocked at how big he looked in Dubai. He was so muscle bound in the mid 2000's it was incredible. Some might say he was built like a linebacker.

I thought he might try to trim down a bit, but he was obviously still hitting the iron hard after all of his surgeries. You do not get traps and rear-delts like he has unless you are routinely deadlifting 600 plus pounds for reps.

My buddy's father is a surgeon and he simply said the human body is not meant to carry as much muscle as Woods was carrying. I'm estimating in his prime he was around 225 pounds with 4% BF. I'm not sure how tall he was, but a friend saw him on the range at Torrey one year and said he was about 6'3".

Jack's interview at Big Cedar was telling. Said Tiger told him at the Champions Dinner that he was miserable and really hurting. Jack said he doesn't want his records broken, but wants Tiger to be healthy enough to try. Also said that Tiger is more concerned with being healthy enough to be with his kids and have a decent standard of physical living than playing golf right now and in the future.

Maybe Tiger's doctors wanted to try everything else but the fusion first. Those surgeries didn't work and now they had to do the fusion. The Doctor on the Golf Channel said that you typically lose 15% of your power after a fusion, but that's for contact sports. I would still have to imagine that Tiger is going to lose more off his driver now.

Tiger's camp is misleading his own people. A few years ago someone close to Tiger, maybe even Steiny, told Rosaforte that Tiger was going back early summer. Then Tiger didn't play until months after that. Now they mislead Notah Begay when Begay said that Tiger would probably be back in a month. The misleading reports all come back to trying to be in the news cycle because of sponsor obligations. Tiger just signed deals with Bridgestone, TaylorMade, and Monster in addition to big money still being paid by Nike. He can't really retire even if he wanted to because while they are primarily performance-based deals, they are still deals that are paying him something even if he doesn't play. Tiger can say all he wants that he wants to be able to be with his kids, but sponsor obligations are keeping him from retiring and they also pushed him to the strong spring schedule this year which didn't help either. Tiger is torn between being healthy and keeping his sponsors happy.

Hank Haney made some waves this week when he said that Tiger doesn't even really want to come back. The day before he said that Tiger's media impact is waning and that he shouldn't be the top story anymore. Then Tiger's fourth back surgery became known. And Haney talked and talked and talked about Tiger for a few shows. Tiger is still the needle. While his media impact might be slightly waning, as long as he hasn't retired he will be the top golf story story.

Respectfully, Tiger can retire and pay for your retirement, my retirement (absent the wine bill) and many, many others.

I'm more impressed at how he was able to win the 2008 U.S. Open after a leg amputation.

First pic - Tiger, shirtless in his prime, circa 2004.

I'd gather to say many here on golfwrx would consider him scary ripped.......so much so people I'm shocked he could wipe his rear end. And 600+ lb deadlifts, come on man, that was the weight he used to warm up. With that body, he was repping 1000lbs easy.

Second pic - representation of average golfwrx member who claims Tiger was ripped.

Yes, but it's a pride thing right now. Tiger has plenty of money, but he just has let everyone know that he's still the biggest earner in golf even if it ruins his career and his health.

If you notice in his response playing golf keeps getting pushed further down the line. He is a smart guy he knows it's over but his ego wont let him say it.

I have tried to hold out hope as long as anyone that there was one more gallon of gas in the tank, but i'm done.

seems that as long as they keep throwing money at him.Tiger and his agent will keep the dream alive and the door ajar!

So with a billion odd dollars net worth, Tigers only motivation to make it back is a few bucks from endorsements and appearance money? Couldn't possibly be that he is still holding on to the dream of more majors and more championships?

Good one!! I was there too and worked that event as well. Phil Mickelson was bigger than him side by side for crying out loud. I watched him snap hook his drive into the drink on 18 in his practice round and in the final singles match and mike weir. He definitely did not like that course.

I think if you look at it objectively he probably feels some pressure to keep his brand/name going/relevant and to keep up appearances for his sponsors. Not at the risk of his health mind you but just to keep the machine going. im sure he has plans post playing career that require corporate $ design and so on so his team is telling him to keep things close to the vest. He also has his charity and event to worry about. I dont get the secrecy and all but hes a big boy its his call

Perfectly put. Muhammad Ali at his best was 217. Big George Foreman would have been about 6'3 and 225 when he murdered smokin joe. Tiger sounded more ripped at 4% though lol.
