Streamsong Tips?

Respectfully, ILikeGolf, it sounds like you and Streamsong are not a great fit for each other. And that's OK! But to say Streamsong is not a destination is a little silly. It is part of this growing genre where the golf is the destination. Sand Valley, Bandon Dunes, heck - even Pinehurst. Those are all certainly golf destinations.

100% understand that a 90 minute drive to Streamsong take a little of the "bucket-list" shine off of it, but the fact is they are a business and their business model is attracting the out of town player who becomes a captive audience while on-site. They will stay on property, eat their food, pay their ancillary fees, etc. Local, 1-day play is something that, quite frankly, they probably do not even need to offer.

So, I don't understand this sense of why Streamsong should be obliged to offer dirt cheap summer or local rates, or where the hatred towards the resort comes from. But I respect your opinion that it's not how you'd like to spend your time or money, which apparently is not at Streamsong.

Dont know about you but after being in an office 60-80 hours a week and being able to get away from the office to a place thats not even close to looking like Florida makes this an amazing value for Florida resident which you dont understand. Its much much cheaper than flying to similar destination in Ireland or Scotland or Wisconsin without the plane ticket. At sand valley you cant do anything but golf. Theres nothing around there. Whats your point? Steamsong is all about golf and its pretty good at it.

Its also 120 plus tax not the 240 as you claim during the winter holiday which is a peak season in Florida and the summer Florida resident rate is still there. Did you even go this summer? Cuz I did and I for sure paid a Florida rate.

People that are killing the game are people playing 5 hours rounds in carts while they blast the radio and get stupid with zero golf etiquette. I played with 2 30 handicapper walking mammoth dunes and we finished our round exactly in 4 hours. They walked and talked and golf.

Its the cart riding lazy bums of golf that slow things down while they check their phones and blast the music that ruins golf.

60-80 hours a week?!? Dang...maybe if you didn’t play golf every Wednesday at Nona you’d have less time spent in the office.

I don’t recall the thread but someone dared question your authority as courses design or architect aficionado and your response made me laugh, “I play Lake Nona every Wednesday at lunch” (Brandon Richey and his crew out there do a phenomenal job). Cool man, and I was merely giving a suggestion as to how to cut some hours in the office.

but current rates for old corkscrew is 70 bucks. you're talking about summer rates where everything in florida is cheap. This is winter time and peak season. Corkscrew isn't even in the same atmosphere as streamsong.

I've walked streamsong multiple times during summer where we tee off before 8am and it was an easy walk; and not walking with strangers is a personal preference for you but i did meet a member at dallas national at streamsong and have an standing invite there when i'm in dallas.

try to be a bit more open minded and plenty of opportunities everywhere.

Walking is the way the game should be played. that's not just an opinion but i see more hacks riding carts and blasting their radio than walkers.

That's what you're not getting. For a FLORIDA RESIDENT Streamsong is not a destination course. I'm not even really sure it is for non-residents. You keep throwing out actual destination golf courses/experiences like Pebble. There's a little more to do and see in Carmel, CA than bumfuck-nowhere, FL.

There is no longer a summer rate at Streamsong like they used to have which was my previous point on this thread and another thread specifically on the topic.

The whole "golf should be played waking" mentally is what's killing the game. No one my age wants to spend 4.5 hours walking. They want to play with friends while playing their radio and ride and not pay $240 to do so. Sorry, but if you want to kill future generations of players you sure have the right attitude and model.

#1 - Where the hell are you playing rounds of golf in under 4-4.5 in a cart? The cart makes no difference unless you're the first out or the last ones in...it just enables people to be morons. Yes, I do walk and use carts.

#2 - "Nowhere Florida." Um...an hour from major cities is nowhere? Clearly you don't get out much....are you scared of a few animals and trees. Do yourself a favor and never book a tee time at pretty much any non city muni, stay away from Sand Valley, Kohler, Bandon, Canada, etc. You could get lost and never come home. I'd love to see you play a round up in my neck of the woods at Giants Ridge in Biwabik MN, THAT is truly "nowhere." People drive willingly 5 hours to play one of the better pubs I have ever played.

#3 - If Streamsong was in Tampa or Orlando FL the price would be $400 too. Again, don't leave your garage, you could get lost.

1. Carts make a huge difference, particularly for people under 30 (my age). No one I know wants to walk and stand around for 4.5 hours in the humidity and heat of Florida. Sitting in a cart for 4-4.5 hour isn’t perceived to be as bad. Reading comprehension is your friend.

2. Yes, if I’m taking a trip with my girlfriend or my buddies we don’t want to have to Uber an hour+ to the closest cluster of bars to go out at night and then Uber another hour+ to get back to the resort we’re staying at.

No, thanks, I’ll stay away from anything in Minnesota and wouldn’t ever waste my time up there.

3. It’s not though.

Streamsong is not a destination course??? LOL

What is next Kohler, Sand Valley, and Bandon are not destination courses just because they are not close to a city with "nightlife"? How dare one resort have 2 courses ranked high with a third just ranked best new course by golf digest! If that is not considered a golf destination then IDK what is.

I am probably your age and have no issue getting out for 4-5 hours and just enjoying playing golf and getting away from the technology, music, etc. When I played a destination golf resort(s) this past year most people were walking with a caddie or carrying their own bags. Some did take a cart, but it was cart path only, so walking would of been quicker anyways.

Pretty sure Bandon in peak season is having no problem filling the tee sheet with it being 100% walking only.

To be fair, I don't think Streamsong's target market is the crew that is going to want to "go out" like that. They are attracting the groups focused on the golf part of "golf trip" that are going to take advantage of the restaurants and bars on property to eat and have a few drinks. If it's husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend they are targeting those that are going to spend the day on the course and at the spa. That doesn't mean you're wrong, just that you're not the target market.

Me and 3 buddies are headed back down there at the end of January. For 3 of us, this will be our third time at Streamsong. We'll spend a couple days on property at Streamsong and a couple at World Woods.

Heading down this week to play red/blue with my brother, what would be appropriate tip for the caddie for two rounds?

Single caddy or double? The last few years we have done single caddy. I think the caddy fee was $90 so we gave the guys $130 per round or $250 if we were playing 36.

http://www.streamsongresort.com/best-florida-golf/caddie-services/

A double bag I would throw a tip of $40 each per round (so $80 total). Single bag I would generally tip $40-$60 per round based on how good he is.

Double bag for the both rounds. I was thinking $450 total for both of us. I tend to be much more frugal than my brother, or cheap as he calls it.

I'm going down the middle of February with seven other guys. Cannot freakin wait.

Wanna hear the sick part? I'm also flying in early (catching a 5:50am flight), renting a car and driving up to make a loop around one of the World Woods courses. All before doubling back to the airport to meet up with the others in my group that afternoon to catch the shuttle down to Streamsong.

This is a little bit of a brag but if I can't tell you guys, who can I tell?

The night life was awful but the course was fantastic. Lol, I kid. Everything is in great shape and the staff was friendly. A couple of us took advantage of the Florida resident deal for after Christmas at $120. I brought my own push cart which was much better Jan the 2 wheel one I rented from them last year. My overall impressions of the course changed slightly from last year. I found the front 9 extreamly fun and playable (shot a 41) the back was another story. Not a fan of 12-16 at all. Here are a few pics from the day.

I'm definitely not under 30, turn 43 this week. But, I do play with a lot of guys that are mid-twenties to mid-thirties, most of my playing partners are in that age demographic. They all love to walk. Going for an emergency 9 in the afternoon with tunes and beers is fun, but pure golf is walking. If you can't get into that, Streamsong is not your jib. Bandon, not your jib. Scotland, not your jib. Hey, that's okay, but I know a lot of guys in their late-sixties and into their seventies that sure wish they had walked their rounds when they could. I have an uncle who can afford to play where ever he wants when ever he wants and he LOVES golf. He'd give anything to play Bandon, but he doesn't want to be the guy in the cart.

I'm okay with losing guys that only want to play out of a cart. I'm okay with fewer golf courses if that's what it takes. I'd rather have fewer choices, healthier playing partners, and never have to worry about a "cart path" bounce again, but I know I'm in the minority.

As for the nightlife... if you couldn't figure out there wasn't going to be any nightlife at Streamsong before you booked, I can't help you there.

Not nightlife as such, but just having somewhere/anywhere else to go isn't a bad thing. I think that is where Streamsong and to a lesser degree Sand Valley struggle.

4 nights in either of those places without getting off property? No thanks.

Admittedly I was a single - so being a Johnny Nomates there is doubly so - but for both SV and SS I stayed off resort and drove their each morning and was happy to do so.

nightlife is defined differently for some folks here because you guys obviously have never been to the rooftop bar at streamsong with a bunch of generous folks.

Hello All,

I will likely be in Lakeland, FL for business in a couple of weeks. What are the chances of getting on Streamsong as a single if I’m just walking up (with no tee time)? Which course do you play if you only get one round?

Should be very easy to get on one of the courses. I have played Blue and Black and liked Blue better but I played in some heavy winds and was half checked out for my round on Black.

Thanks all so far. Appreciate the feedback. Would love to hear more perspectives on the “which one” of the three to okay.

Also wonder if Streamsong has a twilight or same day (reduces rate) replay concept in their rates if you are not staying at the resort.

you cant go wrong with either course.

However, with that said, i think you "enjoy" more of the landscape in red/blue over black.
