Golfing alone

Recommended Posts

I only have one friend that I golf with sometimes, but most of the time we have different schedules, so I'm pretty much always alone. Alone or a single in a group. I can play faster and focus better by myself, but tend to play better/more serious when others are around. I don't play well with more than 1 friend, because then it becomes a hangout, and I want to play golf, think, strategize etc.., and not just hack at it carelessly like I see a ton of guys do in their group of friends...

I really enjoy playing a solo 9-hole round mid-week after work. The course is usually empty, so it really feels like I'm all alone. I find it very relaxing.

However, on the weekends I love playing with friends.

I frequently play alone because I go out after work, and other people I know who play have families and things they go home to. On the weekends I'll usually get in a group, but I like the challenge of just battling in my own mind over shots, without having to wait for anyone else to play. On the downside, you don't get the benefit of seeing other peoples' putts for breaks and whatnot.

I play most of my rounds alone, usually walking twilight tee times at the weekend. I'm amazed that when I get to the back 9 there is usually nobody else on the course. You have a cheaper green fee, course to yourself, last few holes as dusk comes in and the local wildlife emerges, whats not to like!!

Well here in Texas the local wildlife includes things with no shoulders and rattles attached - but it is still worth it for the quite time.

We moved from a big metropolitan area out to a smaller community. I was always use to playing with a full group, even if I went out as a single I would get paired with 3 other golfers. Where we live now I have played by myself everytime I have gone out. Playing with 3 strangers can be great or horrible while playing alone you pretty much know what you are going to get. I would just hate to get my

First hole in one and have no one there to verify it.

I have to play really early on Saturdays and go to work afterwards. Normally I tee off 20min before sunrise with a LED ball and most of the times I'm by myself. I can finish in 2hrs walking. Not a big fan of playing alone but it's better than playing with slow players.

I practice a lot which is a solo cathartic activity. I don’t like to play rounds alone other than tourney practice as the feel isn’t the same as playing with people/competition. It tends to get me out of my routines as I’m not really able to focus the same

After 62 years, I've figured out that I have social anxiety, specifically in the context of parties or other social gatherings. Still, I prefer to play with people than not, but I usually do that in the context of arriving at the course as a single.

I like to practice play 9 holes on my own occasionally, but don't really like to play golf by myself. I always think if I get a hole in one on this par 3, will it actually count?

Being off weekdays I play by myself quite often in thr iff season. Once it warms up a few co workers will come out with me or I get an invite. I like the solitude of twilight in the summer with a cold one to walk and go at my own pace. I generally play a little better with guys my skill level or better as I like the competition.

i have gone out solo for years. i didnt have any amigos that played, i never minded playing alone, but also enjoy company. i would rather play alone then with some random hack though. this past year i have run into a couple fellas that i have started playing regular with.

Love playing solo but as others have mentioned, I rarely ever actually play/keep score while alone. Assuming the course is empty (which is probably how I got out alone to begin with), I'm playing 2-3 balls a hole and dropping a couple around the green to practice short game.

I do it more often now, but don't love heading to the course alone during a busier time and getting paired up with a group as a single. I will admit though, more often than not I am pleasantly surprised with the people I get paired up with so I guess I should be less averse to it than I am.

I have a pretty steady group that I usually get out with, but if they're not available I'm definitely not opposed to playing alone. I use a push cart when I play and there's something extremely relaxing about being out there by yourself. Gives you a chance to really enjoy the course, think more strategically, and not feel rushed.

Wouldn't mind doing it more often, to be honest.

I like to go out by myself when I'm working on something or practicing. I can drop a few balls and work on things without having to worry about anyone else. I do enjoy playing with friends and cool people, but there have been plenty of times I get paired with incredibly annoying, slow, or terrible players who may be playing different tees, at times it's been so bad that I usually just prefer to play by myself rather than risk having the round ruined. It can be good practice though as sometimes you get paired with some real douchenados in tournaments.

I have often played alone because I was not at my home course. Usually hook up with another group that needs a 3rd or 4th. Just moved to a new town, so I will be heading out to new courses making new friends. I always bring some tunes (earbuds) in case I am alone. ;)
