MP4 vs. MP18 blades

Hit em good

Recommended Posts

I've had all of the MP blades since the 33s, including 3 sets of MP4s. I'm currently playing the MP18s. IMO, the MP4s were the best feeling of the lot - just a pure joy to hit. I don't get that same feel from the MP18s, BUT I am playing so e of the best golf of my life with these 18s. If Mizuno has sacrificed feel on these (as I perceive), they've definitely made up for it in looks and performance.

MP 5 pretty like a blade, feel like a blade, plays like a cavity. winner winner chicken dinner.

Is it a real blade? Honest question.

yes, of course it is.

I think discussing mp5 as blades will get you mod’d as off topic in the blade users thread lol.

I don’t know how they can NOT be blades.

He may be eluding to that the MP5 has more of a muscle back where as the 18 is very subtle or non existent, which to me is more classical for a blade of yesteryears.

The reason why I turned down the MP5 because it was fat for blades.

MP18’s are one of the prettiest irons I’ve ever put my hands on, but I like the way the MP4’s look at address a little better. I’m not good enough to be able to tell any difference in feel between them. They both feel a bit better than my 716 MB’s though, and I’d easily be able to game either. Sometimes I regret making the move from Mizuno to Titleist, and the MP-18’s aren’t helping that.

I've played mizuno since t zoid days. The mp18 is the best they've put out since I've been playing them, IMO. mp4 is excellent, but mp18 just has the looks and the sole grind is awesome for me.

Agree with all of this

I second this. I've been a mizuno iron guy for over 15 years. The MP 18 is my favorite of them all. Paired with the right shaft, they are nothing short of perfection!

Well they do have the slight channel back but that muscle is pure blade to my eyes. Simple test put a set of blades down next to a set of Ping G wiz and see if they aren’t smaller prettier and don’t have appliqués that can fall off then sk anyone to tell you which is the blade.

The people who cry about mp5s are the same people who play blades simply for the appearance/look of it, and not the performance. Said another way, they are the people who shouldn't be playing blades in the first place.

Hit what you like and what you hit best. Why people care so much about other's equipment is beyond me.

Fat blades need love too. Funniest comment yet

It is funny, but I have never found that to be the case with the 5's. I have played every mizuno mb since the 29's. Actually only felt the 32's were larger than most mb's.

I’m a believer in that the correct shaft is first priority.

I have the Project-X LZ in my 18s vs the stock S300, what a world of difference in forgiveness and quality of strikes.

Lastly, feel. Played 9 holes yesterday and strikes felt like a marshmallow; something I will have to get use to.

I'm picky but I'm honestly not picky enough to pick between the 2. If either set were available for a cheap price with C-tapers I'd take them and cherish them.

Not to necro this thread, but having hit both, I much prefer the MP-4. I don’t think it’s a close contest.

The MP-4 have a crazy slick topline and noticeably better feel. The MP-18 is bulky and the top line does not inspire confidence for me. I also don’t care for the satin finish—it looks cool in pictures but I find chrome shrinks the appearance of the head for me (a good thing).

I would put the Apex MB, MP-4, and the Titleist 716/718 CBs above the MP-18.

Played the 4's for two seasons and have hit the 18's a few times. I do really like the squarer look and satin finish of the 18's, but I think the 4's have the slight advantage on feel. I don't know how a flushed iron could feel any better than an MP4.

it can't. ;)

Amen. The 4's are the best feeling club of all time.
