TaylorMade High-Toe Wedges

Anyone having issues hitting open face off tight lies with this? Seems to be my only issue so far. Had no issue with my K grind

Same here. On title lies the wedge has been very inconsistent for me. Out of bunkers the hi-to is crazy good. I need to practice a lot more with it.

I am a picker and the HT has been just fine off tight lies during some practice and one round. I was nipping it pretty good.

Get someone to hit it with a little custom grind!

any recommendations on who to use?

I’m guessing here but will peoples, joe Kwok, ryan Barath who has a few podcasts here. I got mine done locally at miles of golf in Ann Arbor. If you’ve got any high end shops in your area chances are someone can do what you want. Mine is similar to what was posted in this thread a few pages back, just added trailing edge relief and tweaked the leading edge a little to sit as close to the ground as possible when slightly open.

tight lies with the 60* Hi-Toe is the only difficult situation I've had thus far as well... coming from a SM6 60* with little bounce, not sure the Hi-Toe is my best option.

Out of thicker rough and the bunker... this thing is money. Just not quite as versatile as I had hoped.

The guys on tour are grinding their Hi-Toe's to fit their needs.... it is a high bounce wedge so the standard retail model is going to be best out of bunkers and high rough, but can be made more versatile. For my taste, mine was ground down to enhance some features for my taste and the leading edge is also a little less rounded.

Here’s a good starting point if your trying to explain what you want, tweak for your own needs

Edit - pics aren’t working but it’s on the last page

Got mine, really amazing out of rough and bunkers. Rather than reshaft and rebuild since i play diff shafts, im just gonna stick to my new D grind. PM me if anyone wants the hi toe.

I know they are totally diff but how is the D from the bunkers (in comparison to the HT). I’m leaning towards getting the HT since I need help from the sand but always liked Vokey wedges and thinking about the D since it sounds like they are also good from the beach.

Been a life long Vokey user, but was getting a new grip installed on my putter and was able to see these for the first time. Thought the look was amazing, certainly agree it looks more "normal" than the PM grind does. Seems to sit really well and low, seems kind of like a K grind on steroids. Ended up going back to GG last night, picked up a 58*, having it bent one deg flat, one deg weak, and having a TI s400 installed. Picking it up Friday on my way to the range.

I took mine out for the first time on Sunday here in Chicago. It was 37 degrees, snow/rain the day before. Played a scramble so was able to take it out a little more than I normally would.

I definitely found that on 30-50 yard half shots were much easier to get a feel than a full shot. Granted, the conditions weren't ideal, but like most people have said in this thread prior and other threads surrounding this club, 70-100 yard shot, rather finesse a 56 in, flies too high, low percentage shot. But if you can get 30-50yd and need it to stop right away, works like a charm. Gave us 2 birdies from about 40yds out stopping it on a dime a few feet away.

Couldn't get a feel for the shorter chips, (not sure I'd use it anyhow but want to see what kind of lies and situations I'd be comfortable taking it out) but was the first time brought it out in weather that I would not recommend playing in to begin with. Plan on putting lot more work in in the coming weeks when it gets warmer.

Nice jgrove74!!!!! Did someone from here do that for you?

I used Tiger Nick. He’s done other clubs for people on GolfWRX and sells refinished clubs on eBay. I had him refinish in black nitride. He’s his site. https://www.tigernickgolf.com

I just got a Hi-Toe. I wanted to speed up the patina process because I'm not a huge fan of the bright copper look when new. I used some Jax brown brass/bronze/copper darkener that I had left over from a home project. I applied a small amount with a toothbrush over a 10 minute period then washed it off and rubbed it with a damp cloth. The finish came out fairly close to the milled grind antique bronze finish. Here is a pic of the hi-toe next to an antique bronze MG:

So I have a couple rounds in on my High Toe 60, here are my thoughts....

Great from the rough and fluffy/deep sand bunkers. Plenty of bounce to get through and make good contact. Spins the ball pretty hard (TP5X). I also found it quite forgiving and controllable off the fairway from 50 yards and in, very nice.

I also found that it's TERRIBLE from bunkers with shallow sand and hard pack underneath and firm wet sand bunkers. I had 3-4 skulled bunker shots (on perfect swings) b/c of this the last two rounds (finally learned my lesson.... I'm not too bright). I don't fault the wedge, it's just way the clubs is made.

I think this club is a winner and has booted out my 4H for now. I can deal with the wet bunker issues, as my 56 SM6 S grind is just fine out of wet or thin sand bunker lies. All club designs have limitations, it's just accepting that certain clubs are for only certain conditions, and sticking to that mantra.

Is it possible to remove the copper finish of the HT wedge ?

Curious to see if you can sand it off as well

They're carbon steel, I would think these would act similar to the Vokey oil cans, where if you sand it all off that they would begin to wear and rust. Hope this is the case, b/c I will be doing it with mine.

Like what you guys are doing with the finish to help it look more antique. The ones I have seen in stores with "shop wear" don't look so great. It seems like the finish on the faces wears very easily and scuff marks are left very easily. I can only imagine how much worse it would be hitting out of sand. In would like to see a few more pictures toward the end of the season to see how the finish holds up.

I’m actually heading to the Kingdom next Thursday for a full fitting and the one request I made was to hit the low-bounce version they aren’t making for us non-pro’s. They hadn’t mentioned if that was possible or not yet, but at least lining one up next to the retail would be nice. Will keep you guys posted.

Have fun at The Kingdom. That place is a blast. Who is your fitter? You get Duane as your putter fitter? He fit me when I was there on the WRX trip. If you get him let him know 'Tim, the guy from the GolfWRX trip says hi.' :)

Hey Tim, not sure who my fitter is yet, they haven’t told me. Can’t wait though! If I see Duane I’ll tell him you said hi.

Really torn on the 58* on these or the 58* Glide Stealth ES. I know the Stealth will be a bit more versatile in terms of full shots but that copper finish is slick.

I'm a huge Ping fan and really like the ES grind a LOT..........but I've been using a 60* Hi Toe for a couple weeks and it's really good. I could easily play either, but for now the TM is in the bag........and I'm not a TM fan!

Had mine out a few times now, and really like the design and functionality of this type of wedge. I know there's a thread or two around the topic, but can any speak to the turf interaction of the PM Grind in comparison to these? If I remember correctly, weren't the PM's designed for the leading edge to sit very close to the turf? Just not sure how that compares to the ATV sole on the TM. I'm all in on the high toe designs, just trying to decide with avenue to go all in on.
