I honestly don't think Rory was defending himself or using the media or any of that with this statement. Its simple, he's right, this match is 15 years past its prime. And there is nobody that can say they would rather watch this match now than 15 years ago. Stop reading into everything that is said and take it at face value.

Do I want to pay $20 to watch a match that probably wont be competitive or do I want to watch it 4 hours after the match for free or go to a bar and see if its on and eat with that $20? I'm pretty sure I know what I am choosing.

I’m a big Tiger-fan myself, but even I can’t understand this level of irrationality, insecurity and projection stemming from other Tiger-fans. They hang on so tight it’s like an extreme mindless cult.

As far as I can tell no broadcaster in the UK has picked it up so there is no legitimate way for UK fans to see it.

They're going to miss the primetime UK spot?

I bought it on Comcast. DVRing it too.

Surprises me too, Sky Sports are doing live coverage of the World Cup of Golf, Hong Kong Open and the LET Open De Espana Femenino this week but no Tiger/Phil. None of these are UK primetime so there is no issue with a clash of a pre-existing event in the schedule.

Rory is just reflecting the European point of view towards the match. UK press are absolutely slating it at the minute.

I dont think Rory has many friends in the UK press these days. I could be wrong, of course.

Meantime, wife says we gettin the PPV.

So please disregard my castigation of said event and feeling that this is a farce.

Ill be be watchin and feastin on

Open face turkey, stuffin, and gravy sangwiches enjoyin every minute ; )

“I dont think Rory has many friends in the UK press these days.”… out of interest, what are you basing this on to form this opinion?

FYI, whenever I watch the UK golf coverage I regularly hear many commentators, pundits, interviewers waxing lyrical about Rory’s gestures and acts of kindness for various people, members of public, media members - even when he’s not playing well I hear this.

$24.99 here in Canuckland... Bought and paid, including catering from my favorite Jamaican place for the 20 some odd folks coming over..

FORE!

Well, if you're going to do the event, might as well go all-in. Nice!

Me, I'm going to use the time to see how I can win $9 million and let everyone else pay to watch me do so. Wish me luck.

the only thing that would have been cooler would have been if it was 2 vs 2

Phil and tiger vs brooks and DJ best ball with long drive hole, closet to pin, hole in one to win a Tesla, long put, and 100k mulligan buy. that is what i would setup personally. all proceeds go to winning teams charity.

Agree, now that would be worth buying!

Ps: I’ve just had a nose bleed, it might be because I agreed with you on something ;)

OK serious question. Looking like golf weather in Indiana on Friday 50* and no rain? So..if I buy it ahead of time on Dish TV..can I start it if I get home at 5:00 and start from the beginning?? Never bought pay per view before. First world problems...I know...lol.

I’m trying to find a similar answer for directv. I called the company and, of course, received two different answers.

Surprised to see the "match" listed on the PGA Tour website schedule. Does it help or harm the PGA Tour brand??

This is plain ridiculous.

It's interesting that they are helping market it when it was the Tour that forced The Match to drop the prize money from $10 million to $9 million because they were unhappy with being upstaged. According to Bob Harig of ESPN, this event had to get the Tour's blessing because they own Tiger and Phil's TV rights.

Where do you think that $1 million is going now? Pretty sure the Tour's blessing wasn't free of charge..

Not sure if they can make money off a PVV in Vegas that includes betting

I’m not familiar with Sky Sports, but here in the US it looks like the Golf Channel is completely shut out of The Match. Maybe Sky Sports wasn’t offered it.

The $10 million is/was guaranteed "prize money" to the winner. No different than any other tournament. The additional take from PPV and betting, side bets is separate. The PGA Tour is taking their cut from the prize money.

But will there be cussing?

My guess is possibly some mild cussing. However as for trash talk it's gonna be weak and contrived--- In this extreme PC sensitive world there's no chance their gonna have any off color trash talk that you might hear in your Saturday morning group, Otherwise they risk needing to go on an apology tour afterward to calm down the morally outraged.

Amazing how Rory is allowed to change his mind and/or stance on things and little old me can say he might have been hasty speaking in absolutes and I’m still a “ mindless extremist fillled With hate “...., lol. We love you too CR. I’d be happy to practice a little tolerance and understanding and less speaking in absolutes if you could manage a little less condescension with your life’s lessons. My club is considering purchasing the PPV if there's enough interest. If they do, I'll be heading over there to watch and have a few beers. If they don't, I'll gladly pay the fee to buy the PPV at home.

I think Tiger will win. I'm really looking forward to the mic'ed up banter and the side-bets.

I asked the GM at my club-they wanted $300 for PPV and he-understandably-passed. I don't blame him a bit as it would be unlikely he would make anywhere near that in additional sales.

Whats this price based on? number of tvs? seats? or just that its not a residential account?

just wondering whats stopping a club from buying the event on their phone and then using chromecast to stream it to the TV at the clubhouse bar

I would guess it's based on number of seats and number of televisions.

I find it funny all the people outraged they aren’t donating it to charity. Is the 100s or thousands they’ll bet on the side not enough? And are these guys not allowed to capitalize on their talent and marketability to make some money? It’s like being mad at your boss for being more successful than you and having more money than you. You’d do the same in their position

Makes no sense to me why it matters if it’s their money ? Crazy in fact. As another poster said. I’d give $20 to get rid of commercials so the fact that it’s golf when here’s no golf on, its commercial free for a price I’d pay , and it’s on at the right time ( 3 eastern) go be able to play in the morning and watch the afternoon then eat a good dinner. It’s perfect. $20 for 4 hours of entertainment is literally as cheap as can be expected for anything. Come on.

Lol. Probably same thing as me. Never heard of chrome cast and would take a week to figure out how to do it. Lol

The side bets are strange, if the winner is actually going to keep the 9 million for himself. What’s a few hundred, or even a few thousand more or less when there is 9 million on the line!?

I know these guys have lots of money already, but that figure is still way to high for them to be laughing about, trash talking each other instead of giving the golf 100% of their focus. It just feels odd to me. I agree with others that I really hope the winner donates to charity. That would also make the side bets a bit more interesting.

Its all kind of strange. The course is closed to the public. No one can watch on site. The only way to see the match is to pay the $19.99 fee to watch on PPV. I'll just read about it the day after.

My son played Shadow Creek last week. He sent lots of pictures via text and Instagram. The course is absolutely gorgeous. Some of the coolest looking holes I've ever seen. I won't even tell you who's locker he got to use!!

I dont need to play Shadow Creek, Ill just see your sons pictures. Hell...I dont even play golf anymore Ill just browse WRX and let everyones elses experience serve as my own.
