No GIFs from Castaway yet? You all surprise and disappoint me.

Epic final round from Shuffles. Got to feel bad for Mr Woodland. He did nothing wrong.

Dang it Gary. -5. 99% of the time that's good enough. Not much you can really do. I have a feeling if he holes the putt on 18 , Xander probably holes out for albatross in the playoff.

yup. i'm sure some knucklehead will start a "did Woodland choke?" thread, though.

Yeah, really. I certainly wanted Gary Woodland to win but was just sitting here thinking about Shauff winning. Hard for me to be too disappointed with a loss coming from a course record tying round and just a really brilliant performance. No doubt some will say Woodland choked but a 5 under final round sure isn't anything to scoff at.

I still think Xander should have been a Ryder Cup pick. Should have been Finau and him....to build towards the future

He’s so good he would have won Team USA 6 bonus points for epicity.

Damn, Xander looked like a stone cold killer out there. He had that Koepka body language going on where he was stalking around like big apex predator or something.

Also, how crazy is this game that you can straight top a drive the way I do a couple times a round and still shoot 62 and win a pga tour event.

Wins through first 61 tour events...

Spieth/Rickie/Bryson’s/JT combined: 3

Xander: 4

Xander. So hot right now.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xander_Schauffele

Interesting background.

Schauffele was born in San Diego, California to a German/French naturalized immigrant father and a Taiwanese/Japanese naturalized immigrant mother. Schauffele's father has been his only swing coach throughout his golf career.[1] The Schauffele teaching philosophy relies heavily on basic ball flight laws and golf club mechanics – as a result Schauffele had not seen his own swing until about age 18.[2]

Two of Schauffele's great-grandfathers played soccer at the European premier level. Johann Hoffmann played for his Austria national soccer team and won multiple Austrian (SK Rapid Wien), Bohemian (DSV Saaz), and French (FC Sochaux; Racing Straßburg) national titles. Besides playing soccer for the German Bundesliga club VFB Stuttgart, Richard Schauffele excelled in track and field, garnering over 40 titles in discus, javelin and shot put for 2 clubs, the Stuttgarter Kickers and the Cannstatter Ruder-Club.

Xander wins using a Subzero Epic Flash. Hit 185 MPH at least once. His fastest ball speed number last year was 178 MPH.

Do you think that's because of the course though? Like the guys let it eat at Kapalua.

The fairways definitely are wide at Kapalua, but I’d have thought he’d let it out close to that once in 2018 if he could. Or Toptracer was off in the ball speed department.

Colour me sceptical when it comes to the ball and swing speeds these guys are cranking out. Since Tiger apparently hit 129mph in swing speed in the early part of last year, I am wondering just how accurate these things are.

Geez, new season same Rory...

Hey I looked at the leaderboard and he seems to have kicked the ar5es of a lot of people you don't mention ?

"Same old Rory" wouldn't be playing this week, or next......have a think about that.....it's just practice, not played for months, final group

Yeh, big problems...

7 final groups in the last year and not one win, that is a bit of a problem.

He won Bay Hill? In his interview on Saturday he said he wasn’t going to go out and try and catch the leader within the first 6 holes and remain patient. Clearly not the right tactic yesterday but may bode well for future events.

Sorry but that's nonsense. He's fully committed to the PGA Tour this year. It stands to reason that he would increase the number of tournaments he would play. He may well have played this last year, but sadly there was a big fat "0" in his 2017 PGA Tour wins column, so he couldn't have, even if he wanted to.

Schauffele has played one more tournament than McIlroy since the Tour Championship, which was the Hero World Challenge. If you're blaming practice, not playing (I assume you mean competitively) for months, and being in the final group, how did Woodland still manage to shoot -5 and Schauffele -11 on Sunday compared to Rory's -1?

It's very much the same old Rory - gets in a decent position after 54, then looks like a rabbit in the headlights for the final 18. He's turning in to Rickie Fowler.

I meant that he has been in 7 final groups and in none of those events has he won. At Bay Hill he came from way back to do it.
