1) I love Bill Murray. Not necessarily in this habitat, but as a person and as an artist. He's one of my idols, actually.

 

2) I enjoy watching this tournament for the golf, not for the amateurs. I love every one of those courses, and watching the pros play a course (three, actually!) you have played is always fun.

 

3) I don't have a 3, but if I did, it would go in this spot.

The tournament is only tough for a couple reasons really. The weather is normally terrible unless california is going through another record drought (which is about 25% of the time) and watching them play in a cold storm isn't really fun. Additionally, the first 3 days everyone is spread out on the other courses and they don't have the logistics to really cover the tournament very well. No shot tracer and there is large gaps in coverage of the star players. Attending the tournament those days is actually better than attempting to watch because if you catch nice weather it's really peaceful to walk the courses and you can get up close.

 

In general it's an antiquated tournament that started out as a fun way for Bing Crosby to get drunk with his friends and play with tour players. I think they need to find a creative way to televise the event if they expect it to survive.

Most of the big names are off to a good start. The defending champion isn't one of them, Ted Potter Jr. soots 82 at Spyglass and is in last place.

 

I also did not have David Duval beating Tommy Fleetwood by a shot.

I’m just hoping the weather holds together enough to get the pros playing at Pebble on Sunday. My worry is that this gets cut down to a 3 round tournament which will completely take all the drama out of everything. Crossing my fingers and my toes.

Has Pebble had some bad weather? I saw the video of Cabrera Bello playing in the rain, but there are quite a few bad spots on the course.

Yes. Plenty of rain and the Monterey Peninsula had a bad storm over the weekend that damaged some suites and video boards at Pebble Beach. Had to be repaired prior to the event starting. Rain expected the next 3 days as well.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I never knew, but it makes a lot of sense. I assume the intention was good, which is more than you can say about most people, but the execution seems flawed. Not to get too off topic though!

Well, truth be told, while I love the course I can no longer tolerate:

 

1) Bill Murray, Chris Berman, George Lopez, Ray Romano et al.

2) Gary McCord

3) A bunch of corporate gasbags smoozing and congratulating each other, and TV coverage of same

4) Endless shots of golden retrievers fetching driftwood

5) Amateurs who think they are good and we are tuning in to watch them.

 

I'll see the course again in June, so I may not watch this event.

And for the record I was only kind of kidding. He really does putt left handed and it is indeed because of yips. He putts pretty good now considering the scar tissue.

 

He also hits bump n runs with his driver and he is legit. On any given hole he might go: driver, 7i, driver, putter for an easy par. Good dude.
