This and the Dunhil Links thing in Scotland in the autumn. I used to really like watching those a decade or so ago. Now I just find it a yawn. Not sure if I just grew tired of the pro-am format or if the productions were better in the 00's. As I remember it, it was more Jonathan Edwards sending his ball up to balconies on the old course hotels, and funny guys cracking jokes. Now its like 75 yo CEO's I have never heard of hitting woods into that short hole by the ocean. I see more than enough of that on my Home Course. Anyone with a similar experience?

Damn... there is a lot of negativity on this thread.

 

Well, truth be told, while I love the course I can no longer tolerate:

 

1) Bill Murray, Chris Berman, George Lopez, Ray Romano et al.

2) Gary McCord

3) A bunch of corporate gasbags smoozing and congratulating each other, and TV coverage of same

4) Endless shots of golden retrievers fetching driftwood

5) Amateurs who think they are good and we are tuning in to watch them.

 

I'll see the course again in June, so I may not watch this event.

 

I agree on all points. I really hate this tournament.

part of the problem, among the many others have mentioned, is that so many of these celebrities have been playing this tournament for years. we've seen them and want something new. nothing against the president of Toms shoes, but he said in an interview this is his 9th year. great for him, but how hard is it to find amateurs/celebs that haven't been there before?

 

how many times do we need to see bill murray, kenny g, chris berman, and larry the cable guy? some of these celebs are on the celebrity golf circuit as they seem to appear in every single charity outing and televised pro/am. Do they bring in viewers or is this just about connections to whoever invites these guys or are is it just that hard to find celebs that play golf?

1) I love Bill Murray. Not necessarily in this habitat, but as a person and as an artist. He's one of my idols, actually.

 

2) I enjoy watching this tournament for the golf, not for the amateurs. I love every one of those courses, and watching the pros play a course (three, actually!) you have played is always fun.

 

3) I don't have a 3, but if I did, it would go in this spot.

Just an update to everyone railing on all of us complaining about the coverage and format of this tournament, there are some awesome golfers shooting some really good numbers today, and we are practically seeing none of it.

 

So, yeah, go AT&T Pro Am.

 

The issue has been when good scores are being shot at the other 2 courses. They never show those courses.

 

Personally, I'd love to see more of Spyglass. And not just guys putting, but actual coverage of their drives and approaches on some of those holes.

Probably the weather forecast. Golf is hard enough, add playing on national broadcast with bad weather and it's easy to pass, especially if the money is refundable.

Favorite part of the coverage - an Am hits an approach shot and they switch to the camera showing the green, with a tight shot of the flag. There's a pause and then, "well, we're not sure where that one ended up, I think it's short and in the rough". Camera pans back and eventually they move on to another player.
