The New Ventus Black

I thought the Rogue White 130 was very good, but FOR ME the Ventus black was just on a completely different level of good. Straighter and lower spin.

Measuring a shaft's balance point is a pretty objective thing, so whether or not you "found it" to be counter balanced or not is not really relevant. The Pro Orange 70TX is "more" counterbalanced than the Ventus Black 7x, but the Ventus is still a counterbalanced shaft. It has the same balance point as the Fujikura Pro 2.0 Tour Spec 7x which the guys over at TXG use as one of their "high balance point" shafts. The Pro Orange and Ventus Black are pretty different in terms of profile so there was likely something else about Orange that you didn't like.

The M5 that I got with PO 7tx in it game stock length with swing weight at about C9. I was coming from a Fujikura speeder with swing weight around D7 so it was a massive feel difference. Anything D3 or less is just too low for me. My SIM with ventus black 7x has a SW of D5 same length. Just comes down to the feel at C9 feeling like I was swinging a cotton ball at the end of the shaft. So regardless of where the actual balance points are I was just more or less talking about how counterbalanced it felt to me.

Ah I gotcha, I'm exactly the same way with the same weight ranges as well. Normally you would just offset the counterbalance with extra head weight though. The PO is only responsible for around 2.5 SW points so it definitely would have have been the difference between C9 and D5 unless you also had a heavier grip on the PO as well. It is important to tune those setups for your swing, especially if you prefer more weight.

Here are the ones I have built and the specs they came out to using the same heads and exactly the same size grips

Tensei Pro Orange 70TX 44.5" driver D3.5

Ventus Black 7X 44.5" Driver D3.9

Tensei Pro Orange 90 TX 42.5" Fairway D3.0

Ventus Black 8-X 42.5" Fairway D2.4

Ventus Black 9-X 42.5" Fairway D3.5

Just going based off personal experience and a digital swingweight scale, I would guess that because I play slightly shorter I am cutting more of the tungsten butt off the Tensei Oranges so they may not be effectively playing as counterbalanced as they would be at say a 45.5" driver, but in turn I can't see it being more than a point or so

Grip was a golf pride tour velvet full cord with 3 or 4 wraps added to it so not heavy at all. Not sure why mine came in at C9 with the Tensei PO. Ordered stock M5 through TM so maybe they gave me a lighter head on accident I'm not sure, but when going back to the Fuji Speeder it went back to D5 or 6.

There would have to have been a difference in shaft length or something with the grip. The Tensei Pro Orange is definitely not counterbalanced 6-7 swingweight points. That would literally require there to be 30-35g worth of additional shaft weight under just the grip.

Guys a question for all of you in the know... It may actually be in this thread but I don't feel like going back and searching for it... I currently have the Ventus Blue 7X, Got it new last year when they came out in the spring. Is the Blue also counter balanced? I am getting the SIM with the Black 7X and hoping it isn't going to be to light in swing weight without adding anything to the head.

Maybe I should say that I currently have my Driver SW at D9-D9.5 So relatively heavy...

I’m 118-121 and I have the Black 6x no tipping. Had the Atmos Black TS 6x tipped 1” prior too and haven’t had any issue at all with the Ventus not tipped.

Yes the blue is, I don't remember exactly but I think it was about .75 of a point more counterbalanced than the black at the same specs I posted above 44.5"

It's a million x's better than the Atmos Black. Smoother feel, way more forgiving, & lower spin.

I never really got along with the Atmos Black. I found it to be a little "dull", almost dead. I really like the Ventus Black. It's got some liveliness in it and feels powerful. I have found, for me, the best pairing with Ventus Black was Mavrik. When I moved it to the SIM and SIM Max it wasn't as good. The Speeder TR 661 worked best in the SIM and SIM Max. Obviously that's just my personal experience.

I'm using the atmos black right now and hitting my best drives ever....when they're not OB.

I wish I could freely test some real ventus shafts.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

I have a steep angle of attack (1-1.5*) so even though my SS hovers between 108/110, reducing spin is paramount. My current setup is the Ping G 400 LST 8.5* in the big minus...

Based on my research & feedback I’ve got from a couple of people I think the Ventus Black would be a good fit for my Ping G 410 LST 9* head...I’m just debating between the 6 X & the 7 X. Maybe even tip the 6 X a little? I’d like to get a little more speed from the lighter weight 6 but I don’t want to add spin to do it.

I just received my Ventus Black 6x a few days ago. I'll preface by saying this is not the typical profile that I fit for and play, but curiosity got the best of me. I've played a Pro White 60TX for the last few years and have grown accustomed to that feel. Received a SIM a couple months ago with the new Tour AD XC and that's been equally as good as the TPW. My typical miss on the face would be high toe and already playing a draw that tends to get me in a bit of trouble on the course.

VB definitely has a more linear feel to it (that's been stated many times in the thread so nothing new). I normally tip my shafts 1", but I went untipped on the VB. It's a shaft that while it plays very stout it certainly does not feel that way. Obviously felt more sturdy under my hands and stood up to everything I had in the tank and even worked well when throttling back. I honestly haven't missed a driver in the heel in years, but had a couple the other day. It was very refreshing to not fear the 1-2 balls a round that I over cook left. Just going off what I'm accustomed to, launch and spin seemed to be in the same ball park. I wanted something to help me mitigate the left miss and I'm very excited by what I saw on day 1. Had I gone through a fitting like I normally do I probably would have been a better fit for the Blue. I wanted to try a different profile altogether and the Black seemed to fit the ball.

How is this shaft not in every bag?

i haven’t made many comments since purchasing, as we all know about the honeymoon phase, but I have a good amount of rounds with this now and have never drove the ball like this in my life.

my driving was a train wreck most of last season, now is a stronger part of my game.

Your numbers are similar to mine, but my angle of attack is 0. I hit the Ventus Black 6x. I think going to 7x might cause some inconsistencies with the range of speed you have. For the shaft, a lot depends on how you deflect the shaft at impact, head will make the biggest difference in spin and launch. LST is a lower spinning head for Ping but not as much as some other manufacturers. Might be able to hit another head and loft up on it slightly. With that said, the Ping 400 - 410s are slightly more forgiving compared to others, so I’m not sure if that is a factor in your decision.

Also, I was swinging 2 down and ball position has helped me get it more level to slightly positive.

Let me know if any of this helps.
