The New Ventus Black

Fuji, thank you for the feedback. I am interested in the dispersion element of the ventus and I’ll definitely give it a real world try. Any sense on about how much tipping the ventus black 6x 1”would bring down spin?

the Fuji 2.0 TS. Is similar to a tensei white. Soft handle stiff mid and tip.

ventus is stiffer all the way through for a more one piece, more linear feel

The Pro 2.0 TS is also more counterbalanced than any of the others listed, so keep that in mind as well.

Need some help from the crew. New to fitting and have a few questions after reading through entire thread (and others). You guys rock btw and your posts have really helped me, prob not my wallet though.

Playing over 25 years and I've never been fitted and always buy stock shafts for swing speed (usually 1-2 years post launch). Currently driver is around 110-115mph and I'm rocking TM M3 with Tensei white 7X (don't laugh but regular NOT PRO). I decided it's time to upgrade to new weapon since I always go low when I find fairways, but when I'm wrong off the tee I'm really wrong (40-50 yards off course). My normal shot is a nice draw, but my miss is an uncontrollable snaphook or monster push that results in bogies or worse. I know mostly swing, but figured shaft could help a bit get that dispersion down. Looking to purchase SIM shortly to take advantage of current exchange offer.

I went to try some shafts but my local Golf Galaxy has all of the stock shafts but no upgraded shafts offered by TM. Out of all shafts available to swing I hit my Tensei White best with the SIM. After reading all of the posts, I'm thinking that I would benefit from the Ventus black or another upgrades shaft because I have a hard time finding center of the club. I am close to pulling trigger and trying out Ventus or Tensei PW, but again it would be on research and not hitting due to limited availability locally. I don't think I want to drive an hour to a cc, then pay $100 to try it when I can just purchase and ebay if not right for me and I have my current shaft to fall back on.

Since Tensei white has my best numbers currently, would going Tensei PW be better option or do you think I should try Ventus black to try out the strong tip?

Ventus will definitely help you find center face more due to VeloCore and also it will help minimize snap hooks due to ultra stiff tip section. We're bias, but really think it's worth your time and $ to head to a fitter and try the Ventus against your gamer.

Finally put a TM adapter on the Ventus Black after initially ordering it with a Mavrik SZ I returned in 3 days.... Got some very surprising numbers with the Black and SIM Max 9* head (and not in a good way)

warmed up with my ozik black tie and saw what I typically see. Sub 2500 spin and launch around 12*. My miss with this is a pull hook left. After about 12 swings to get loose I switched to the Ventus Black. First 3 swings were dead center contact but I left the face open so they went way right. Center contact again and hit a nice push draw right down the middle. Next 2 flew dead straight. Next one was another push draw that came right back to center. Sounds great right?.... The average of those 4 fairway finding shots had 3200 spin topping out at 270yds total. Launch was 12* and the feeling of the shaft and face was very solid. I knew I made as close to perfect centered contact as possible. Very easy to control and once I got in rhythm my strike location was much more reliable and centered than the ozik black tie

But, im trying to wrap my head around the spin I was getting. The ventus felt more solid and powerful than the black tie, but on average the black tie was 20 yards longer. Ball speed was 3mph more and spin was down between 700 - 1000 rpms with the black tie

I dunno if its a bad pairing of shaft and head but it doesnt add up to me. Dispersion was better with Ventus and without a doubt the strike pattern was way more repeatable. Im gonna go back today for some more indoor range time and see how it compares back to back days

Be on the lookout for a Ventus Black 6x tm adapter probably in the Classifieds very soon..........

Likely due to a strike low on the face - I get that from time to time with the ventus black as well. My remedy for it is to actually present less AOA when I am noticing that. Once I level out my strike the shaft does all the work!

One thing ive noticed with the new SIM line ( I went with SIM Max) is ive had the tendency to miss lower on the face than I ever did with m5, m3, or even m1.... I'm sure youre right about strike location but I really felt like I was catching as close to square as possible. Maybe bc I was hitting center face more compared to higher on the face like I do normally

Interesting take on AOA. Im usually between 3 - 4 up. Ill have to keep an eye out on that. One thing I dont like about PGA Superstore is the tees are always lower than how I typically set up

Dispersion was excellent and I dont wanna rush to conclusions b/c its only 1 session but I dont wanna be 20 yards shorter than normal

I'm not super familiar with the “refreshed” Black Tie from LA Golf but I would imagine it’s in the same ballpark as the original profile which is going to be very low spin. Would not be surprised to see it sit lower on the spin chart when put head to head but if you’re able to eliminate some of the variables you mentioned like strike etc then that is definitely a big difference. Will be interesting to see some more of your data from another session or two.

@Fujikura Golf I have the Ventus Black 6S in my Cobra Speedzone and unfortunately, I live in Ohio so I haven't been able to take it on the course yet, but the Launch Monitor numbers have been fantastic! about 270-ish carry on average with a nice fade! Love it and will definitely be looking to keep this shaft in whatever drivers I play!

Im right there with ya. I had a Pro Orange as my other driver shaft and loved it but the black tie was still better. Decided to throw PO in my 3w..... Ill get numbers again today but Ventus has been a huge disappointment so far

Dispersion is better, but ball speed was down, spin was up

I honestly feel like its smoother than the Matrix Black Tie's, but I wouldn't be surprised if its a fresh paint job. Im told its different but im not 100% sure. I have noticed I can square the face or even turn over the LA shaft much easier than the Matrix. Matrix was much more fade prone to me

My miss used to be a big pull hook, which can still come out from time to time! Last year, I changed my swing a bit so it became more of a block with the face wide open. I didn't really slice the ball, it was just pushed about 15-20 yards from where I would aim. I normally played my driver at 9 degrees, but I bumped it up to get some more launch and close face. I generally swing about 105-108, but I can probably get up to 110 when I am warmed up! It doesn't seem to be too stout at all but the 7X would probably be at telephone pole for me! lol

Going to schedule a fitting at club champion to demo this shaft along with Mizuno's new st200g driver

hopefully they have the Ventus with a sleeve to fit this head, I'll call and set up an appointment and make sure

they have this combo , I've had the Epic SZ in 10.5 with a tour ad 7 shaft in it and have hit some great drives with it

but the one thing about the Epic is I've never really found the sweet spot where the ball has just come off the club face like butter

I don't know what it is with Callaway drivers but the feel has always lacked for me off of the face , so anyhow I've only really started hitting

the sub zero really well .... took long enough nearly a year lol , this new Mizuno driver has me intrigued being getting very good reviews

I'll take the Epic along with me and see how they compare should be fun .

Currently play ventus blue 6s with 10.5 loft driver turned to 9.5 degree in loft. Had a Trackman session last weekend and got good results with very satisfactory carry distances and tight dispersion. However the launch angle is very high and the ball flight is too high as a result. See the following table.

Will Ventus Black help me launch a ball a little lower? Should I give it a try?

Per Flightscope if your clubhead speed is 105 and ball speed is roughly 155 than lowering launch 1 degree and 200 rpm would result in a gain of 3 yards (lose 1 in carry). 15* launch is the distance maximized for that swing speed. Only thing you can really do is drop rpm 600 or so. Even if you optimized Perfectly the gain is 10 yards or so.

earlier i mentioned the Ventus wasn’t cutting it for me. I hit it twice at PGA store after getting it tipped, then again a couple days later after a new grip. PGA store’s tees are quite low compared to what I like. Spin was avg over 3200

took it to the normal indoor range i go to where I could use my tees and made a big difference. Still spins a little more than I’d like but the flight was very neutral and the dispersion is a huge step up from the LA Ozik Black Tie. I went with the SIM Max bc I wanted a more forgiving option this year vs m5 last year. Some of the spin could be due to that, but I left in all bad shots with both shafts. Had a few with over 3200 spin with Ventus but those were push fades open club face

m5 typically averaged 2100-2200 spin all year on monitors for me so it’s nice the Max is giving me more playability. Also the Max has given me the top ball speeds in 3 sessions than I’ve seen in 5 years. If i pulled out bad strikes I think ball speed would be closer to 164 and 162 total. M5 had a perfect combo of high launch and low spin but was never the fastest face I hit last year

overall the spin on the Ventus is very playable now and I’ll take that dispersion any day
