The New Ventus Black

I currently have an EvenFlow Black 6.5 65g and a HC EvenFlow Black 6.5 65g tipped 1/2" (numbers similar on both). According to the indoor Trackman I have access to, I'm spinning it like crazy, on average 3,400rpm. My swing speed in this session averaged 110mph, ball speed averaged 160, smash 1.47, AoA +1.3, and carry ~260. I did switch drivers from a Rogue Sub-Zero to a TaylorMade M5 last year, but I've never seen numbers like this before (same shaft in both clubs). I just purchased a Ventus Black 6x to see if it's better. According to Fujikura, the only dealer in my area is Edwin Watts, they were unable to help, so I had to get one off eBay.

I'm not sure if this is me or the Trackman, it was indoors and there were no silver stickers on the balls.

I'd love to hear the opinions on how you think I may like the Ventus Black vs the EvenFlow Black.

Despite both having "Black" in their names, they are completely different shafts. The EF Black is actually pretty similar to the Graphite Design AD-DI and follows much the same path as many mid-soft, mid launch/spin shafts, albeit with a little more linear tip stiffness. The Ventus Black is much stiffer in the mid and a little softer in the handle, overall likely a much lower spinning shaft.

That said, a shaft is not going to change 3,400rpm spin very much and your spin problem is likely strike oriented unless the Trackman is not reading things correctly. It would be wise to confirm exactly where you are striking the ball before chasing low spin with shaft changes.

I was struggling with spin around 3,000. I got fit last year and tried the ef black and it spun the same or more then my hzrdus yellow. I was able to get my spin under 2,500 with the pro orange. Fast forward to this year's fitting and the ventus black spun about 100 rpm more then the orange but I think it felt better.

 

Also, my gym has a trackman and a gc quad and i find the trackman spin to be way off if the balls arent marked.

i think the black loads better... not an amazing amount better but better.

i was pretty impressed by the shaft, just not the price. It might replace the aldila silver 130 as my favorite shaft, but haven’t done enough testing to know for sure.

Has anyone that generally plays a heavier upper 70g weighing x-flex shaft move into a Ventus Black in a 6X? I'm considering going a bit lighter with my driver shaft this year with the Ventus Black but the 65 g shaft seems like it might be too light. The 7X is 78 grams and might be a bit heavier than what I currently have (76 or 77 g I think). The torque is 3.1 in 6X and I'm used to using shafts around 2.8 so wondering what affect that would have being higher as well. What affect would tipping it have on the 6X?

The shaft that TaylorMade is charging an upgrade cost for is the exact one we sell in the aftermarket and we ship it to them straight from our Carlsbad facility like we do with all of our charter dealers and other OEMs requesting custom upgrade shafts.

I was comparing to a Fujikura Evolution Speeder 757 Tour Spec X flex. I would have an easier time comparing new Fuji shafts to my current gamer if the new website update didn't get rid of my shaft specs. They used to be on there only a few months ago but only the newer Fuji shafts are there now. The Evo I is gone so trying to compare that to Ventus Black and Blue.

I think there is some confusion here. Are you saying then that Mizuno is charging $250 for the cheaper version that TM is offering stock? That doesn't really make sense.

Why not phrase this in a more definitive way so it's less confusing? The TaylorMade SIM Max stock option Ventus does NOT include the Velocore technology, while the upcharge version (+$250) does. I hate when people phrase things to only have a positive connotation. Listen, we get it, Ventus has been a huge success and TaylorMade and Fuji came together to make a cheaper offering of the shaft for the average player who won't know the difference. But just be straightforward and CLEAR about it.

I think you misread, the original quote was:
"I noticed that the Ventus shafts that are being offered at an up charge by Mizuno don’t have the VeloCore marking on them."
What is offered stock was not mentioned, the concern was around what the upcharge shaft was, which is what the Mizuno rep spoke to according to the follow up post by @bdmiller61
