Since you game 718CB - doesn't this mean they are not blades and are cavity backs instead??

Not sure any of our reasoning will be of help. Maybe because _success with MB's demands attention to detail and overcoming obstacles,_ which fits my character. Anyhow, I learned with forged butter knife blades, and still have one set of custom butter knives 2-LW. I still put the butter knives into play when ball striking pushes stinky.

My reason for learning with them had to do with advice from a relative that played on the PGA tour back in the 50/60s. He said butter knives will teach me about ball-striking but I will have to cope with frustration. Today's blades have larger "nickel" sized sweet-spots and much more forgiving than what I learned with. The sweet-spot is lower and further back and centered, heal to toe, which is what makes them more forgiving.

My MacGregor MB's have the sweet spot fractionally closer to the heal and high and closer to the front on the face with narrow flat sole, compact from heal to toe, and has old bounce numbers with a fractional offset. As a result of extensive practice, I learned better distance and trajectory control, plus through my hands, where the impact was on the face.

My current 716CB's do not compare to my MacGregor MBs in distance control or feel at impact. Though each is forged I suspect the forging process is somehow different. No matter how well I hit 716CB iron they fly expected yardages and when I mishit one it's somewhat noticeable in my hands and loses 5-10yds inline with the target. When I pure my MBs each can be pushed as much as 5-8yds longer than stock yardage and when I mishit one, it's 10-15yds short left or right, all depends on how far I was off the "dime" sweet-spot. Takes more accurate work to move the ball left or right with 716CB's, not much effort to move MB's left or right. IMO a well-struck MB blade shot feels so sweet it's hard to convey to others the accomplishment.

Even though contemporary MBs are easier forgiving irons, I wouldn't suggest them to anyone that isn't prepared for a lot of frustration and range work, and I mean a lot.

Blades look great, GI clubs don't. Blades feel great, Gi clubs don't. Blades give me better front to back dispersion than GI clubs......play blades :)

If you hit your GI clubs fat, then you'll hit the blades fat. No difference so......play blades :)

Mine ain't they are played and besides they have lead tape on the back. But I do keep my grooves clean except on the 2 iron and I have a reason for that too

Several reasons:

1. I started playing with old hand-me-down Blade as my first clubs when a kid (so, for me, they were the normal clubs)

2. I have a high launch and ball flight and most of GI irons actually hinder my ability (ballooning ball flights, loss of distance, etc)

3. They just look so much better at address. The ball is framed perfectly with blades, which subconsciously helps me hit the ball off the center more often than with a larger club (heel to toe). This could be a visual feedback factor due to the smaller size.

4. After 3 testing sections at the store with Monitors, even science backs up my claim. Mizuno MP-20 MBs were longer and with better launch angle than all of the GI Clubs I tested (including T-200, T-100, P790), and also the dispersion was the best of them all

I'm glad I decided to move back to blades, it was a "fun" 5 month trial with GI clubs (Ping 400, Titleist 718 Ap1 and Titleist T-200), but after this prolonged testing I can 100% confirm that for my case, blades will always be better.

I will have to check them out. S55 and the Titleist CB were the same size, but I did not realize the t100 and cb are the same size.

I can also attest T-100 and Mizuno MP-20s appear the same at address (size, heel to toe) but definitely hit the MP-20s much better.
