Yes. At least since 1983.

https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/27945812/tiger-woods-takes-82nd-pga-tour-title-tying-sam-snead-atop-list

Then he opened the tournament Thursday with three consecutive bogeys -- according to Elias, no player dating to 1983 has gone on to win a tournament after doing that -- and you figured it might be a struggle for him to be respectable.

Then there is this.

It is. It’s like he had a full journeyman’s career after he turned 45. Amazing.

Better than most to be fair, most don't win at all after 45 and Snead was competing in events in his 70s. He finished Tied 3rd at the PGA Championship at age 62, just 3 shots behind 35 year old Trevino! I mean Vijay Singh who holds the record for most wins in his 40s - 22 - has 0 after age 45. About that age has proven to be the normal cutoff for PGA Tour careers.

That's kinda why it was interesting to me. The discussion of Tiger chasing Jack really boils down to him winning 3 Majors in the next 2-3 seasons, after which the odds become very unfavorable. When the challenge is framed that way it is much more daunting.

I think Snead struggled with putting yips and assume they got progressively worse as he got older. But he remained a very good ball striker well into his 50s and was still able to compete pretty well considering how poor his putting was.

Health is a huge factor. If he can stay healthy, I would not be shocked to see him win a green jacket in his late 40's or even 50's. Nicklaus dang near won the jacket at age 58 on bad hips.

I don't think the Tour - the Japanese, the whole Golf World in general could have had a more successful Tournament in virtually every way possible, other than the rain.

Seemed to be a bit of grumbling surrounding this Tourny. Turned out to be quite a hit. Will be interesting to see if Tiger defends next year.

The good news is, if they do get hit with a typhoon again, they know the course can handle it.

That grounds crew also deserves a trophy.

I would guess the last time it happened was in a pre World War II major and the hole by hole scores are now lost to history.

Analytical irony about Snead stats.

You are either not understanding the point of my post or are being purposefully obtuse.

You gotta be who you gotta be, I’m ok with that. I just wanted to make sure I understood what you insinuating before I came to a conclusion.

Also cool to note how he was clipping off wins in multiples of 10 every year to year & a half. Then, insert "troubles", and the 9 year struggle to go 10+ again. My God, what he should have achieved.

In the end, after all the smoke clears, one could make the case that he was both the best and most underachieving athlete of all time.

Byron Nelson retired at age 34...his win % was ludicrous when he retired...

I have Lord Byron, Tiger ad Jack as tied for the greatest ever when at their peak...

And I don’t think it’s close...Bobby Jones is in second...

Nobody curb stomped people like Nelson, Tiger and Jack...

When you think about it, the "troubles" and the "injuries" make The Tiger Story even more compelling.

I'm talking about the future story that one day he will be renowned as the greatest individual athlete ever to walk the face of the earth.

Someone posted a chart of Jack, TW, and Sneads wins by age. Eyeballing it but it looked like TW had 70 wins by his early 30s and Jack and Snead took took til very late 30s and 40s to get there.

Hogan's peak was arguably better than anyone. He won 6 of 8 major starts, which is absurd.

Yep, watched all of rounds three and four and by the back nine on Sunday was believing it would happen - then . . . . it didn't. Ugh.
