It's hard to believe that it's only January and that we have another three months of this type of horse muck before we actually get a proper thread. I come here, have a quick look at the first page, dis-pare and end up wandering back to Equipment or even General Golf talk. Roll on April.

PGA Tour (you should know better than to call it the PGA with all your connections) inflated the purse to make it more "major" like on the basis of $.

 

If you are now suggesting that the course itself plays into whether it is a major, plenty of courses on the other major rotas and Augusta National a lot more highly regarded than Sawgrass, lol.

 

And you've got the friend in the biz.

 

But to be clear - you are calling it a major for "fun" but don't really believe it is one? Have to say, didn't see that coming (if it does).

More than 3/4 of them....

It's an impressive track no question about it. I like Dye's Valley too. A lot of noobs don't mention that track, but it's a really nice one. My buddy par'd the last 3 holes last time we played and both of us are "hackers". He edged me out 106 to 107. He really came on strong. We played the blacks that day, clearly over matched but a lot of fun.

He carries 260 I'm around 238......

Back to the Stadium... Most people who discredit it haven't been there. First of all it's the home base of the PGA. Second it has two tremendous tracks. The chipping and driving range providing pro vs is amazing. Service and history is tremendous.

I played there from time to time, I get a huge discount and you'll see at least 10 pros there on the weekend taking up the pro parking slots all the time especially this time of the year. It's tremendous.

Anyone quick to slap it down really has no clue...

They literally have infrastructure built year round specifically for the tourney. Brick stand etc.... Lay dormant until the tourney. It's a freaking major. And the course is brutal.

I'd love to bet every scratch on here 3:1 they couldnt shoot par on this course. Hell I'll give them 3 strokes.....

In order for you to be a 20.3 that means (roughly) that the AVERAGE of your 10 BEST rounds out of 20 would be somewhere around 92. And that would be on a (again, roughly) par 72 fairly difficult course. So if you have trouble breaking 100, the math simply doesn't add up.

So someone's playing games with the truth; either you or "SWING U" (whatever that is).

So you're wrong or confused about your clubs, your scores, as well as the NSX not being made since 2005. Oh, and the 5th Major (but I guess you're just goofing around about that anyway). Your batting average ain't too high right now. LOL

The Masters is, by far, the most watched and popular golf event in the world. The US Open is America’s national championship. Easy justifications for being majors.

Do you think the Masters is not the most watched golf event by far? You can start by looking at ratings and viewership information.

The strongest field in golf is subject to interpretation. The field at the Players is about the same SOF or stronger by some measures, as are a number of other tournaments.

I actually think that the Ryder Cup is the most watched event in golf but as I say, I am not hugely bothered.

 

The OWGR gives the strongest field to PGA year in year out so it’s not “about the same”. As someone else noted above though, I am not sure that there is anything that I will say that you will accep.t

And really, after the top 70 or so players, does it really matter? All the top tournaments have all the top players.

18 million people watch the Masters. 4 to 6 million watch the Ryder Cup.

I have to chuckle at the guy talking trash about someone playing G20 irons, when according to their signature, they bag a set of Callaway Hawkeyes. That's pretty rich. And I dont care what clubs you're using, getting to a 4.9 index is no small feat and takes talent, ability, and hard work.
