Mizuno Irons for 2020

In this boat too. 6'4" with shortish arms. Play +1" and 3* upright. I recommend using this chart. PING - Iron Color Code ChartAt 6'5" Ping says +1" and it's just a matter of wrist to floor that will determine the lie angle.

At +1" I struggle to get swing weights into a usuable territory, so at +1 3/4" you'd have no prayer of seeing anything close to a D swing weight.

Mizuno is nowhere near the most expansive, Titleist has double the amount of custom shafts offered. I will say that Mizuno might offer the most at no upcharge but if they don't have the shaft that fits me I have to purchase and reshaft or give Club Champion all my money to install the correct shafts the first time; and then you're fighting to achieve certain swingweights, etc. "Rich people problems" I know but wish the MFGs would allow you to pick any shaft on the market and just pay the $$$ and wait the time. And/or just let me buy the heads only...

That will make people question if there will be a 2021 release of the HMP. Similar to the 2019 delayed release of the HMP.

Possible but I don't think so. I thought it was discussed on here Mizuno admitted they missed the boat on the players distance iron and in response to P790, AP3, etc they launched the HMP. Also remember reading something about the positive response they got from the Hot Metal/Chromoly and better players were asking for a sleeker model in the same material. While I prefer the feel/sound of the forged, when you hit the HMP next to P790 or T200, HMP feels best to me.

I wouldn't think Miz would make that mistake again and I stand by my original statement that it makes perfect sense to combine the 919Forged and HMP into one "players distance" iron. I don't know that there's a slot for both models...I think the better play leaned more towards the Tour and the guy who needed a little more help went to HMP because it went further. I mean the fact that the 921 Forged is "Forged Chromoly" is a huge hint but we'll see...

Titleist offers everything but who cares, if you have to pay I'd have my clubs built at a fitter as Titleist, just like almost every other factory build, is almost always terrible out of the box.

I got word from my local golf shop that the 921 Tours will be available in LH, but we should expect a 3-6 month delay

Looks like the Nike Vapor head shape is in vogue seeing as it's very similar to Srixon and Taylormade's new offerings.

Although my HM Pros are only five months old and aren't going anywhere, I will be trying these out. Love Mizuno irons.

So maybe a dumb question....could I go get fit on 919 heads now but have the order placed for 921s? Never bought new release irons before. But I think that's going to change. ?

I guess there's no real advantage to this assuming the demo clubs allow someone to get fit ahead of the release?

If the 921 tours are in lefty that will be my next purchase. I picked up a custom set of 919F when they went on sale. I haven't played my MP20s since. I might be moving on full time to JPX from MP.

(UPDATE FROM UK)

I ordered at set of 919 Tours last week after my fitter said the update isn't likely to arrive until next year. After seeing the picture of the 921 Forged i contacted him to see whether the 919's were actually still available after reading some of the posts on here. Apparantly all the 919's are still available to custom order but Mizuno have been completely cleaned out of their custom stock hence why they have decided to release the 921's early. You can obviously still buy stock sets.

Mizuno have advised him that the price of the 921T will remain the same but the lofts will be slightly stronger so they have decided to add a GW to the Tour line-up. He will be recieving the 921's to fit in the middle of August and has suggested a potential dispatch date of 1st September.

I have therefore cancelled by 919 order ( 4-PW 919T) and will have a new order placed ( 4-GW 921T) as soon as the order window opens for the 921's.

Rumour has it there will be a LH 921 SEL set. Set make up is unconfirmed however I suspect Forged style long irons and Tour style short irons.

Stronger lofted tour model? Seems odd for them to do that for that type of iron. I played 919T for a summer before buying T100 and felt 919T were about 5 yards shorter, maybe just more spin or something else and that's why they are strengthening lofts? Wonder if Koepka would move into these if that's the case.

I was disappointed to see the stronger lofts on the Mizuno mp20 MMC and was hoping the 921T would have lofts a similar to 919T. Don’t like the direction of stronger lofts in these types of clubs.

I'm sure all that availability info is strictly for the UK. I can assure you US dealers are not taking order of any sort for 919 stock or custom.

I guess I don’t understand the complaints about stronger lofts. If they’re selling a gap wedge, why not just buy 4-GW instead of 3-PW if you don’t like their stock loft numbers?

It's what i've heard, could well be wrong of course. You are both right though, it would be odd if they were to strengthen the lofts on the 921T.

Could well be based on feedback they have received on the 919T though. Considering Koepka bags 4-PW in the 919T and has gone with more forgiving 3 iron (TM P790), as have many other pro's, maybe Mizuno are doing away with the 3 iron in the Tours this year and adjusting the lofts slightly? Could be similar MP-20 MMC's? .. It's all guesswork at this stage. Preparing myself for a roasting when the lofts are the same as the 919T!! I would have thought so. There is probably a higher volume of orders going through the US compared to the UK as well which may explain why they have stopped earlier. With fitting kits being delivered mid-late August to approved fitters, i doubt they will be taking many more orders in the UK.

All things equal, a certain length club with more loft will be easier to elevate. Gotta be hard to generate the amount of speed that’s required to elevate a 28 degree club when the club is only 37 inches long (typical 7 iron length)

I'm not against the strong loft movement, but people buying the JPX Tour and the MBs are typically - typically - not looking for added distance. With stronger lofts comes different launch dynamics which is a whole thread in and of itself - most people buying this style of iron are looking for address aesthetics, turf interaction, etc - not distance. If compact one piece forgings are subject to loft jacking, no one is safe...
