Amateur players using a Staff golf bag?

I am considering getting a larger bag as I typically ride or use a push cart when walking and no longer need a stand bag because I long for the extra space without having to jam my clubs into divider holes. What are your thoughts on amateur golfers who use Staff bags? Is there a stigma of "Look at that guy who thinks he is on tour!"? I know there are cart bags out there but the quality and spaciousness of a staff bag seems so much better. For reference, I'm a 30-something, 2 handicap who plays in several state am tourneys every year.

It is your bag and your money....do as YOU wish. It is nice to have plenty of storage room for stuff. Rain gear, extra rangefinders (for your group knowing someone is always needing it), etc. The one issue that I have found is that when you end up at a tournament with another guy/gal that has a large bag a cart can run out of bag space in a hurry! As you can probably tell, I love mine and don't really care what anyone has to say about it (besides it was a gift!).

I was given a staff bag. I have been using it for the past month. I have not had any weird comments or anything. It works well on my push cart. I'm not sure it is as convenient as the cart bags. I say do you and do whatever you like.

It blows my mind that anyone cares what kind of bag you carry. If you like it, carry it. I have about ten golf bags, and more than half of them are “staff” size. I like good looking bags. I like different colored bags. People who disapprove can pound sand.

agree with what everyone else is saying. there is for sure a stigma and people will judge you but who cares. Get what you like thats all that matters.

That said i dont think there is nearly enough stuff that the average golfer would need during a round where its necessary to need the storage of a staff bag vs a cart or larger stand bag. It seems like OEMs are doing a better and better job at making good functional cart bags. Staff bags are not designed to fit well on carts/pushcarts

If you don't engage in knobbish behavior: "Why, yes, I am on staff, would you like an autograph?", and I don't have to carry it around, then rock on. A friend of mine won a staff bag in a raffle, the most common comment I heard was what a nice looking bag it was.

I use a TM staff bag during winter. I normally play 1st or 2nd tee time and it's pretty cold when I tee off. The extra space helps a lot for all the extra layers. Mine is the smaller version 9.5" and couldn't care less for what other people think.

It's all up to you, bud. Like other have said, there will always be some guys that give you a hard time because you have a staff bag or have your name embroidered on your bag, etc. Who cares? I have a staff bag for when I go on golf trips that I'm not flying to (fly with my carry bag). I can load up the staff bag with raingear, balls, snacks, gloves, literally anything I might need instead of throwing it in a separate bag and having to fish for it. I walk mostly so I have a few different carry bags. Mainly though, staff bags just look awesome so I have one.

Dude. I had the same feeling, and it was because of a buddy of mine. He was very negative about me possibly buying one, or even a cart bag. "Too big!" he said... "Don't you ever want to walk a course?!" I realized later that who cares what he thinks. I like the way it looks! So i bought it. I'm happy with it... I would have bought a staff bag, but I didn't want to fork out the dough... Settled for a new Mizuno Cart Bag and am super happy.

The ones that will probably judge you are the ones that are probably envious. The real golfers, won't say a word. But in the grand scheme of things, who cares. I golf with a couple guys that don't give two sh*ts about how they dress or look like when they golf, but I always have the shirt tucked in, and people always joke about being sponsored by Nike, since I'm head to toe in the Swoosh. But like people say, your money, your world.

 

I have a staff bag, but don't use it, cuz it's signed by Tiger. lol

If that is what meets your needs and you like it then use it. I have used staff bags, stand bags and cart bags no one really pays attention either way.

I've always had a Staff Bag and probably always will. Love the extra room, never walk and also have Jumbomax Grips on all my clubs. Not getting all of those in a carry bag!!!!!!!

I think staff bags look good. I really like the Titleist Mid Size Staff Bag. I walk almost all the time, so a staff bag is not practical for me. If I rode all the time, I would consider getting one.

Well said I am going to agree with you 110%----- The only thing I will say about it is I for one do not want to advertise for the big companies---- I do have 2 Titleist mini staff bags from my mini tour days I do not use them any more because I do not want to advertise. But there is where my old school non descript Burton Mini staff comes in. I even use a Jones Classic too----- But yeah I do not see anything wrong with using one if that is what you want to do--- The no advertising thing is just one of my anal things I have developed later on in life

Don't laugh but back in the day my staff bag would not fit in my Vette. easy solution I used a full bag cover and strapped it to the luggage rack on the trunk or where the trunk lid would be on a normal car

Had a staff bag for a long time...recently went back to a stand bag. While the staff bags are nice, they really are a PITA to transport around.

In my experience nobody cares what bag, ball, putter, irons or driver you use.

Me and my pals certainly couldn't call what each other use.

If someone buys a new hat or anything you get into their ribs. Then you forget.
