Golf is no different than other sports - the top players have access to customizations not available to the masses, or if it is, it's gonna cost plenty.

OEMs know that someone using their gear is the best form of advertising out there, and the margin of winning at that level is slim. Making a tweak for a tour pro that saves a couple of strokes is worth way more in advertising than the investment in that custom club.

They know who the people are that warrant that investment, pro or amateur, under contract or not.

I skipped original epic because it felt dull harsh like you describe the taylormades. Still not as extremely dull harsh heavy as taylormades felt though. Its quite shocking. My thought was... is this what everyone says is so great? Sure they performed but if it feels like your swinging some sort of heavy viking weapon i dont know how thats enjoyable. Every impact felt like i was buldozing a building by hand lol.
