Forged Alternative to G410 Irons Needed

There is no forged alternative to the Ping G410......but the only thing that comes to mind that might be in the same arena = Maltby PTM.....similar look, but smaller and less offset.

I'm surprised you aren't sticking with Mizuno given your previous irons. I can definitely recommend the JPX 919 Forged. A buddy of mine plays them and I have hit them and am very tempted to pull the trigger. Seem to meet all your criteria. Forged, smaller head, less clunky, less offset, still plenty forgiving and jacked lofts.

I think I have the answer to your question but it won’t be a newer model but it is a Mizuno. Look into a set of 2016 JPX EZ Forged. Similar dimensions/moi/lofts to the G410 but a forged head. New sets still pop up on ebay every now and again, can be had fairly cheap as well.

I disagree ode1. There ore forged options in a similar size profile.

The Matlby interpretation of a 2003 Golfsmith Tour Cavity Pro however, would not offer near the MOI the OP is looking for. If memory serves correctly though, I believe Tom Wishon designed the irons Maltby is giving a face lift to.

I'm telling you volrus, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't hit the new Wilson D7 forged. Forgiveness right up there with the G410 and as good of feel as any cavity back forged iron. And Wilson doesn't gouge you on pricing.

PXG 0211s have similar performance and forgiveness to the G410s. They are not forged, but they are the best feeling cast clubs I have ever hit, and I am not the only one on these forums to feel this way. They definitley feel better than the P790s IMO. And at $125 per club they are less expensive. And if you can get them for Heroes pricing they are a no brainer at $95 per club.

I plat the Maltby PTM. Very forgiving and really good distance in a forged head. I would think the OP should have some interest in these.

Cobra King Forged Tec 2020. Look great, feel great, forgiving and high flying, soft landing with the right shaft. The only time they don't feel good, is when I catch one low on the face...but what club does.

Although ping cleaned up the look and it does look good for a sgi head, it still is a ping g. There might be some that are in the ballpark, but nothing close re a forged head. Sure forged face and goo filled/maraging steel, but that's a different animal than a traditional forged/form forged head.

 

My suggestion was for the PTM, not the TE Forged, which you are referring to. Although forgiving (the TE), it wont have the same level of forgiveness of the 410, and the sole designs are much different. Very little bounce in the TE, as well as a sharp leading edge vs. the 410 which will have quite a bit more bounce and a much more friendly leading edge.....the PTM shares this with the PTM, which was initially why I thought of it. I believe PTM is form forged 8620, and feels pretty good (I have an 8i demo).

 

If I'm feeling frisky later (or sometime this week) I'll try and snap some comparison pics between the PTM 8i and 410 6i.

the 565MC IS more of a players forged cavity back, but has generous leading edge relief and turf interaction is good in all conditions, hardpan to very soft.

I have not played the 565, but have the 560, it was a little better than the TE forged (same as the MTF forged, logic tradition m05) as far as turf interaction.....a very nice and forgiving forged CB.

0211's are not even in the same league as the 410's when it comes to forgiveness.

For me, the dispersion was half than G410 and they were longer. Not to mention the 410s feel terrible compared to the 0211. Hit a G410 off the toe or heal and get ready for a terrible feel. Hit a 0211 and you may lose 4 yards and the feel is 90% as good as a center strike. At $125/club it's the biggest no brainer in the iron world.

They are really nice irons. I have a set and the feel great. They would be a good alternative. They are forgiving and with stronger lofts they might help get a few more yards

I understand cast v forged. I am exactly like yourself and actually had the g410. Hated them. I went to the mizuno 919 hot metal pro. Not forged but oh my! Just a thought as these are like for like in my opinion and still butter soft.

Yes, we should be reading about Titleist,Callaway,Ping, and Taylormade shutting down production any day now to move over for the greatest irons ever! Gotta love the PXG enthusiasm. Especially since the OP is looking for a forged alternative to the 410's and the 0211's are a cast club.

Long time Ping guy here. I recently went to PXG 0311XF Gen 2 irons and they fill and perform beautifully. I bought a rarely used demo set for a pretty good discount.

I just had a fitting and had the same results. The 0211's were longer and much more consistently straight. Obviously different setups work for different people, but I had surprisingly good results with the 0211's.

Those companies are fine because most people to bias and stubborn to demo PXG. i was the same way a few months ago playing Miura irons and believing there was nothing better, a brand agnostic fitting opened my eyes.

I also play the gen 2 XF's. Was by far the best feeling of the forgiving irons to me. I bought mine straight from PXG but im sure with gen 3 being out now you could find a relatively affordable set of Gen 2's.
