Clubs you really wanted, got, then hated!

I couldn't agree more on the Miura wedges. I had a set of 1957 wedges wasn't to thrilled with them so sold them. Then recently i picked up a used set of Miura wedge series from 2012 for next to nothing and got them refinished in raw. I love the raw look of them but the 51-55 can live in the back up bag. The 51 actually has a bit of offset which i couldn't stand looking down at. The 59* has lasted longer in the bag because it opens up beautifully to hit green side flops and little nippers that check. I couldn't really tell much of a feel difference with them and raw Vokeys either so the SM6 will stay in the bag.

Nothing JDM to contribute to this (but I do really want a set of TC-201/MC501 combos or Epon AF705/505 combos). Well that's a lie. I had a set of Akira Prototypes with Shimada Tours in them that I bought for $200, and they were just very meh. They looked cool at address and felt okay but there was no wow factor or iconic "Japanese feel" you hear about. I'm betting it was more the Shimadas than anything as they felt super stiff and heavy in any club shorter than a 6 iron. I'm not overly broken up about it, I was able to sell them for $300 after sitting on them for a year and I wasn't really looking for them in the first place I just stumbled on them and said "why not".

I have a long list of clubs so I won't list them all but most recently Ping G700s and Rogue SZ 3+. The 700s performed pretty well on the monitor but outside they had such a power draw that even Arnold would have blushed. The Rogue SZ was good like 3/10x. It was either a rocket dead on line or a knuckle ball city that fell out of the sky in like 2 seconds. The 5 wood is awesome though!

Mine would be the Epon AF Tours. Beautiful clubs. Love the way they looked in hand and when built. But in play the hosel/heel transition looked so weird and shovel-ish to me, the offset is not well blended. Did not achieve comfort and moved them.

That said, there are a lot of great clubs listed in this thread. The Titleist 917 D2 driver is among my favorites! And the Miura CB57 is among the best cavity backs ever made IMO.

Going back a few years for this one, but for me it would be the KZG forged cavity irons (LH version). I had a couple of friends who played KZG at the time and loved them. The fitter didn't have the LH version in stock, so I took a shot and ordered them with the specs of my DCI 962's at the time. When I got the irons, I absolutely hated them. The LH version was actually different than the RH version, and the hosel/heel just looked...off. They had this wierd "crimp" in them, especially in the PW and 9-iron. I played them for a season, dumped them and got back into some Titleist forged CB's.

Looked great, didn't "go". Mushy feel and lost distance. Big disappointment.

So I played yesterday with the JPX forged. Felt great when flushed, but I didn’t have my A game and didn’t get near as much help as with the i200s. Might have to give the i200s another chance.

I bought a set of irons I think in the early 80s or late 70s that were advertised in a magazine as perfectly frequency matched! The would match up from club to club and I would never miss another shot! Money back guaranteed! I ordered them by phone and really looked forward to getting them! They did finally arrive and I could not hit a solid shot with any of them. I guess the frequency did not match my swing. I did get my money back minus shipping and handling charges. At least I was smart enough to keep the box to ship them back in. Can't remember what they were called...

For me, SLDR 460 S Driver. I knew it was bad on mishits and great when hit on the screws. But THAT much? Talk about night and day. God, it was awful. Wish I had a better swing, it was so damn long when hit out of the middle.

Not so much hate, but disappointment. The Ping i25 irons. Think I possibly even posted here when I got them. CFS stiff shafts. I had been trying a bunch of irons and was 99% sold on the Callaway Apex Pros at the time. Got a sudden urge for the Pings and bought them after a fitting.

Never felt great, lost distance and switched back to playing my old Nike VR splits and finally bought my current gamers. Sold them for a song in excellent shape to a grateful buyer.

PRGR IDBL with Steelfiber players spec. Just not as soft as I was expecting. Actually I've had cast clubs that were softer...........

To each his own but I found the IDBLs ok, not bad but very over rated based on what I've read.

For me it was G400 Crossover and the U85 from Srixon. I really wanted a driving iron as I don't like hybrids and these are both just too chunky, I found I could only use them off the tee in testing and couldn't really get a feel for them when swinging. I'm still searching for a driving iron, the G410 and U500 look a bit more promising but I think a P790 could do the same while being a bit more versatile and suit my eye better.

I bought a C3I wedge. First time I tried it in a sand trap I skulled the ball ob. Never could hit any kind of decent shot with it from anywhere. Tight lie nope, rough nope, perfectly teed up maybe but probably not.
