Exactly. Every person in the US should be tested and border closed for a month. But there aren't enough test kits for even 1% of the population.

My kids HS is open tomorrow, and they already have coronavirus cases. Can't believe they are making them come in. I gave him a note to leave after his 8 am test. Irresponsible of the county schools.

I've been off my teaching job for almost two weeks now. Living in Japan we are about two weeks ahead of North America. Sad to see all of these cancellations. Big bummer. I remember walking home from the train station last month saying to myself, "I can't believe this is happening." A month later, the economy here is really, really struggling, but we are still alive (Thank goodness for hi-tech toilets with bidet systems though).

Stay away from the gym, concerts, church, conferences (basically anything that's non essential) for the next little while. Best of luck.

Well for one day or approximately 6 hours (if you want to get technical) golfers were tougher than any other athletes on the planet. Thanks tour pros for not being able to keep it up for 3 more days to prove our immunity to athlete jokes and coronavirus.

I don't think it is malevolence. The news media is always joyful when they have a crisis to talk about. Ordinarily they take something like a 70mph storm and turn it into a crisis... With their reporters pretending to struggle to stand up as they shout loudly into their mics trying to convey fear and urgency. Meanwhile in the background residents are strolling by.

NOW they have an ACTUAL crisis, they've gone haywire, turning it into something you'd expect from an impending extinction level event creating mass hysteria.

well I don't know what to say. I guess the question, how do we talk golf when there is no golf or other sports for I guess 30 days? No work, we will be out of basic supplies soon but the mods want this to be a golf discussion only.

so I will start. will this be Phil's final year to win the Masters? He is playing so well I believe he will spend the next 30 days working on his game and will lead all 4 days of the Masters.

Most likely yes. He's very low risk. Here's what I wrote elsewhere in the other thread.I live in Asia where this has been going on for nearly 2 months now. At the end of Jan i thought the LPGA tournaments here would be cancelled and they were. I am surprised this has taken over US sports so fast. Partly from a culture standpoint and also from a population density difference (with many parts of the US).The good news is the hysteria/panic will subside in a few weeks time, and most will be unaffected or have fully recovered.That being said, I do think this is very serious for the population. For many, they can easily recover or won't even know they got it. But that doesn't mean it's just the flu. This virus is crushing the old / sick. You can be healthy, have it and show no symptoms, and then pass it on to someone that isn't as fortunate health wise. Unfortunately, most people only consider their own situation when forming their opinion here.There will never be agreement on how much caution is the right amount. Some will say save a human life at any/all costs. Others believe there is a normal hazard rate for everything, and unfortunately some will be lost along the way. I tend to think this one warrants more caution / preventative measures to contain the situation.

Several points...

Tough to talk only golf when a global pandemic is impacting all golf.

 

As for canceling The Players, it seems odd since they were all there anyway. I wonder how much of it was financial driven (no spectators) ? Seems that golf is one sport where maintaining social distance is easy. But I'd have to think that through.

 

Also the level of ignorance and selfishness (saying it's only a cold, only the flu, only impacts old people etc) that's on display by some here is palpable and clearly shallow thinking.

Golf tournaments are played by adults and attended by adults who are aware of Covid 19 and the inherent risks. Why not give the players the option of playing and the crowds the option of attending. Avoid mass hysteria and give people the option not to let their lives be ruled by the risk of mild flu.
