Lots of comments praising the commentary and the competitive but fun match environment...and I fully agree!

The sorry thing about this is that many of us would love to see more fun event with greats like TW and Phil...but those guys aren't going to play a fun match without money or majors on the line. Normally, these guys would command an appearance fee for second tier events and I don't think either of them do that anymore because they don't need the money and are trying to manage their schedules (understandably). I don't hold out any hope we will see more of this with the top golfers because they have too much to play for to waste their time and energy on silly season type golf. I am VERY thankful TW and Phil did this great charitable effort, but this was a one and done deal IMO. I sure wish there was more like it coming. The greats of old did the Shell's WWOG because they needed the money. Never coming back with the skrillion dollar purses we have today.

I do hope that the tour and broadcast networks pick up on just some of these cues and/or use of different announcer styles. I love golf, but tour golf coverage is purt near unwatchable for me unless it is a major.

It sounded like they had to cut a few mics after some bad shots. It would be so much better if it was a "cable" show somehow, so language would be allowed. There would then be a 200 page thread on here about what bad role models these guys were though because they cursed back and forth with each other like just about every 4-some in real life does.

The ratings for this were fantastic, it blipped over 6MM views at one point. The audience was certainly there and we're in unique times (complete dearth of sports in general), but I don't quite know how well that would have translated to PPV.

I think you're purposely tomatoeing my tomato! You'll never hear me ball-gargle "WE DEM BOYZ!" like a sycophant but I am 100% a fan of America's Team and our history. That said... I have zero urge to see Staubach play a high-level competitive golf match LOL ;)

That was my question. It wouldn't bother me a bit and I would enjoy them really getting after each other. But the sponsors and PC Police would rain down hard on this I bet. "Misogynist, old-fashioned golf snobbery" would get ripped I bet. Could you imagine if somebody said "hit it Alice?"

It's sad but it's true. There was even a poster on one of the previous pages of this thread crying about JT using the "A" word (gasp!). If you can't even handle that then you most likely would are offended by almost everything.

What we learned is Tiger has zero personality, all those years being guarded. Again he’s supposed to be fantastic to the helpers and let’s his guard down with long time friends. No issue with that before the tiger worshippers swoop.

 

Would be better if there were 4 pga players and 4 top level sportsmen. Ones that have a lot of personality and game. Would be ace seeing Jordon say, closest to the pin for $500k of your own money.

Hilarious some people still don't think Tiger moves the needle. Add Tiger to any sporting event and you will have more viewers than normal. You'd have to be an idiot to deliberately leave him out of a prime time golf event.

Not everyone is talkative on the golf course. And, not everyone is an extrovert. That doesn't mean they don't have personality. It's just a different kind of personality.

Rickie Fowler was also pretty quiet during their match. That doesn't mean he has no personality.

Some guys just like to let their game do the talking and don't feel the need to speak constantly. Others like Phil and Lee Trevino are energized by the talking.

He was my favorite player when I was a kid and watching pro football and until he retired. A little sad that concussions drove him out of the game, but kind of cool he was able to make a decision to move on and did move on to a successful off-field life. Fun era when teams were teams and had, IMO, more stability and identity with players not jumping around as much as today - and some fun characters as well. Of course, I still remember watching Dandy Don and Walt Garrison, lol, but barely. Random thought - Daryle Lamonica was just flat out entertaining.
