I've been thinking about picking up a set of 902s or a set of Maltby TEs. Has anyone played both sets and can provide a quick comparison?

Not exactly, but I play a Maltby DBM gap wedge with 902 irons. The DBM is identical to the TE except for 1* stronger lofts and different finish. Comparing the 902 PW (46*) to the DBM GW (51*): DBM has noticeably longer blade length and more muted feel. DBM flies higher and straighter. 902 is more workable with much better feel and slightly less forgiveness, but still quite forgiving. Similar sole widths, 902 has a slightly more blunt/rounded leading edge grind. The DBM has significant perimeter weighting on all sides, whereas 902 is more concentrated at the bottom.

It looks like the 902 and 623 irons will be discontinued in favor of the PF series. It is interesting that both of these performed better than the PF-2 in MGS “testing”. I also don’t really like the PF aesthetics, although the reduced offset is a nice upgrade (especially in the cavity back). The 902s hit a sweet spot that suits a lot of golfers and I am surprised that they will be discontinued. Splitting that base into the PF-2 and PF-3 (not yet released) is a big risk. Then again, I am biased: long live the 902!0D6054F5-6CBC-4520-9CD9-4459C048A0F2.jpeg.0f33cff0a515e8bb59a8aa3b3e0e4318.jpeg

I had an issue where my driving iron had a rattle develop. Messaged Eric about it and he took care of it immediately.   Shipped the club in and he had the brand new replacement shipped out the next day.

I demoed the 902 and the PF-2 before ordering the PF combo. They are so close on feel. The PF feel a bit better on center contact. I had better dispersion results (not by much) with the PF.

if I was looking for new forged cavities, the 902 is a sure bet at that sale price.

they emailed it to me but I tossed it as I’m not needing anything from them right now.  I’ll see if I can find it

From that angle, this iron (“729 PRO”) looks like an evolution of the beloved 902: similar sole, some weight moved away from the toe. That would be a great outcome. I am a little nervous about the PRO designation: could be going the Sub70 route of having base models (PF series) and a more expensive premium option. Time will tell!

best DTC clubs period.  Had the 623m's and they spun waaaay too much for me.  Messaged Eric who was super helpful and went with the pf1/pf2 combo and haven't looked back.  Ball flight is perfect and they hold the greens nicely.  I like them just as much if not more than the last 2 iterations of Srixon blades and I loved those a ton.  My only caveat is the lack of 3 iron/their driving iron.  I'm not a huge fan of it.  Their driving iron seems a little inconsistent to me.  I have the 21 degree and 1 will go 230...the next one feels just as solid but looks spinny and goes 210...could be the shaft though as I went with the recoil as opposed to the Project x in my irons but who knows

So would you say looks like same blade length as the 902 or a smidge longer? It is hard to see. Head has almost a Miura look to the middle of the cavity but the New Level has more weight carved out here and there. It looks nice.

I purchased my set of 902's last month and after playing them for 4 rounds I ordered another set of 902's to make sure I had a back up set and irons to last me the next 5-7 years... these are works of art and amazing irons.. I am a 6 Hdcp and these are the best irons EVER!!!

I’ve had a set of the 902’s since February of 2020 and I still like them very much. I’ve noticed on the New Level site that Eric is only offering his New Level brand grips on the clubs now. I plan on buying another set in the future, when the next line comes out and I was curious as to what grips you chose and if you liked the New Level grips. The next set is going to be a graphite shafted set as my hands and elbows are showing signs of aging. I have Elevate 95’s and they help but I’m going to give graphite a chance. I liked that new iron posted in this thread, it looks very buyable 😉

They’re gone. The PF2 is the replacement for the 902. Very similar and definitely in the same category.

Exactly, they put up a video with a comparison between the 623/PF-1 and the 902/PF-2, explaining that the latter are not entirely different but more of an improvement of the older models.

I really love the look of my 902‘s, but reduced offset, a slimmer topline and thinner sole in the PF-2 are improvements for sure.

The 902‘s are absolutely amazing irons, I’m playing my best golf right now and have been throwing darts with them.

Absolutely love my New Level irons and wedges. Only thing I don't like is the lack of bounce options in the lob wedge. 14 degrees of bounce on firm turf is a dangerous line for me in the summer time. Other than that, the clubs are spectacular and a heck of a value. I've converted 2 friends over as well 🙂

Don’t know which one you’re playing but I have been enjoying my 54 M Type, which seems like a blend of an M grind and C grind to me. It’s great and it is super off tight lies. Surprised me because I also tried the Tri-Weight, the more forgiving wedge of the two. The M Type is in the bag. Very consistent distances and versatile. Sharp looking wedge. Matte finish is a plus.

I'm playing M Type as well. The 60/14 is just too much bounce for my liking personally. The 50/56(bent to 55) are amazing I just wish the lob wedge had lower bounce. Shape, feel, performance on the wedges overall are fantastic though.

I have a pair of New Level Type-M wedges on the way (54* and 58*), which I decided to order after reading stellar reviews. Among other things they were highly rated in Not allowed because of spam's recent wedge comparison and rated as the "Best Value". They should arrive next week.

Clubs: Ping (Driver, 5W, 5H, 6H, 7i-UW), Cleveland (wedges), Odyssey 2-Ball counter balanced

Ball: Maxfli Tour (yellow) or Vice Pro (neon lime); Callaway ORG 7 bag; Shot Scope x5

I have a full bag of New Level clubs, 5-PW 902’s and 50-54-58 in the M-wedges.  They are fantastic, across the board. What I want to know is what do you think about the grip offerings from New Level. When I ordered in February of 2020 you could basically order whatever kind of grip that you wanted. Now Eric is basically offering just 3 kind of New Level grips. What I would like to know is, are you happy with the grips, and what are they comparable to? Thanks in advance.

Can someone tell me the difference between M and Tri wedges? I'm specifically looking for a gap wedge (50 or 52) and wondering which model is better suited. I don't take a huge divot and use a gap wedge very very often from full shots to half shots.

i’ve got the Tri-Weight in a 50 and the M Type in a 54. The Tri-Weight is the more forgiving option and that’s why I have it in gap wedge. I hit a lot of full and 3/4 shots with it. Nice spin, consistent distance, just a solid easy to play all around wedge.

The M Type is more of a shotmaker wedge, which is to say it is versatile, not difficult. With its grind, can open it way up and hit it off any lie. Played straight, can use the bounce. It’s better for the low flighted hop and stop. Eric put a Tiger-stepped 8 iron shaft in this club for me and man it feels great on those little pitch shots.

I thought these wedges might lose out to the big boys but I tried these against some really good wedges — Vokey, Callaway, Cleveland and Ping — and I kept finding I like the New Levels. So I’m playin ‘em.
