for kicks, here's a shaft I received earlier this year:

The shaft (a Hulk - because of course) did survive, but had some fairly obvious indentations where the box was damaged:
image.png.a7eab8fb5797495d6274b29a2dd51501.png

I immediately let the seller know how it arrived, and after inspection, sent those pics to him. He told me to go ahead and try it if I felt comfortable, which I didn't really, but I had to know:

s*** happens (seller did refund me as he's a stand up dude), but the key is communication and making sure what you receive is in good shape. Anything I ever sell, as soon as it's delivered I message the buyer and ask them to inspect it to make sure it's arrived safely. I won't be stopping that practice anytime soon.

If it's not obvious, I'm in the camp of - not shipping damage, pound sand, good luck with Cobra.

Best of luck in getting some resolution.

So I take it you didn't reuse the box for your next outgoing sold order...

The box damage doesn't match the severity of what happened to the head.  But weird things can happen.  I have received boxes with much worse looking damage or lack of protection inside the box that showed up fine.

I'm curious what the outcome will be if the buyer reaches out to Cobra directly.  That hole in the back of the head doesn't exactly tell the story of damage from regular play.

So I kinda have a simplistic view of this whole situation.  It’s either 1 of 2 things:

1.  It was damaged by someone (in shipping, or against a divider pole at the range, I too have seen and had it happen etc.)

2. It’s a defect that was waiting to present itself.

step 1, Buyer, contact cobra and try to get them involved to replace it.   If they do based on option2, great, no one Is out anything.  And maybe your swing speed is just that muncher higher than the sellers, and it broke. If they won’t help, it’s clearly because they believe it was option 1 as well.

if it ends up option 1, It’s on the buyer in this scenario too.  You cannot receive something damaged, then use it.  The insurance doesn’t work that way, USPS doesn’t really work that way.  You are going to have a hard time with them, because like others here, your going to have to explain why you didn’t see anything wrong but they really broke it.  And that box is not damaged enough, and it was packed as many clubs are shipped every day.  It ends up being a poor inspection process by the buyer in that scenario, and how as the seller are they supposed to help with that (they likely sent it whole)?  If it was damaged BY the buyer, it’s obvious who’s to blame anyway.  I just don’t see how in any scenario this ends up on the seller.

Buyer is “looking for some resolution”.      My question to him was if that head was comprised during shipping the box must have been destroyed?  Also, surely you would notice that type of damage prior to hitting a dozen or so balls which caused a giant hole to appear.   Literally there is a large piece of material missing.   Might look at the situation a bit differently if he notified me immediately when the club arrived and said it was damaged.

You have been on here as a lefty for a long time and you are a stand up seller and buyer. If the club arrived perfectly fine meaning not damaged upon delivery, then it is on him as a buyer from there on out. If it came damaged he needs to notify you and take pictures of the damage at the time of delivery of the item and the shipping box (which he did not do because it did not arrive damaged). He may not like the fact that the driver "failed" but it's his responsibility now as he owns it.

That damage does not look like club failure at all.

As someone who dealt with OEM warranties for 4 years, I can almost guarantee Cobra (or any manufacturer for that matter) won’t do anything about that. The warranties are usually for the club face, top line, about an inch or so from the top line, and within 6 inches of the tip.

I saw so many people bring clubs in and try to get warranties for things like this in similar spots, and the OEM tells them it’s not under warranty. They’ll deem that as abuse.

It seems like the most likely scenario is that the buyer hit the head on something but doesn't want to own up to that, in hopes that he can get some type of compensation from someone (whether it be the seller, USPS, or Cobra)

Less likely is that there actually was some tiny damage to the head and hitting balls actually made the back of the head explode like that. I am not an engineer or a club specialist, to say whether or not that is possible...However, sorry buyer. Common sense points me to scenario #1.

All I can say is this.  Everything I have ever sold on the BST. I have always purchased insurance for the amount the item sells for. I have gone through 3 claims this year already. And I’m so glad I chose to pay the extra insurance. Those extra few dollars is so worth it. Don’t be cheap guys.  It just ends up protecting both sides from headache.

Here is the damage to the box along with the contents used to protect the club during shipping.

I’ve received so many damaged boxes much worst then this. And my items are still intact with no damage. Considering it’s damaged on the strongest part of the box. It’s hard to believe the driver head was damaged during shipping.

Hope both parties can get this resolved ASAP.

Call cobra they are super easy to deal with. My guess is the usps damaged it in transit and look for dents or creases where the head was in the box.

I didn't know this . Several weeks ago I received a  brand new shaft for my F9 driver from a seller on Ebay.

My wife texts me and says my box is smashed flat and doesn't look good. I asked her if it had been bent in half and she replied no it's just smashed flat.

When I got home I took pictures of the box and opened it up. I inspected the shaft and couldn't see anything wrong with it. I immediately contacted the seller and explained the situation with him. I asked him if he wanted me to return it or for me to try it out to see if it is ok. I wanted to let him know first in case it broke while using it. He replied go ahead and try it out and get back to him. After two rounds I figured it was ok and let him know all is well.

I never would have thought if it broke after a couple of swings USPS wouldn't be responsible. I also would think USPS wouldn't pay out on a shaft that looked fine but the box was totally damaged.

I think if the OP would have handled his situation similar to the way I handled mine after seeing the damaged box maybe the outcome with the seller might be different. Any time I receive a mangled box I take pictures ,inspect the item carefully and let the seller know before using it even if it looks ok.

the box isn't even damaged. that box is in  better shape than 98% of the stuff I get or send golf clubs in

It's probably just more of what has been said already but here is my take -

Even if we assume that there was some sort of hidden damage that occurred during shipment (i.e. the best case scenario for the buyer), IMO, this is a use or refuse it situation. Straight out of the box the buyer should decide whether to use the club and assume it is fine or alert the seller and the USPS and start the return or claim process. Once the buyer goes down the road of assuming the club is fine and starts using it, he owns it and accept the risk of any later discovered damage as in most cases it will be nearly impossible to prove with any certainty what the cause of damage was. That said, if all the buyer ask for is help in starting a USPS claim, personally, I'd go that far in assisting the buyer. The understanding, however, would have to be that it is very doubtful the USPS is going to honor any claim at that point and that ultimately the club is the buyers to deal with.

Seller(raskal21) forgot to mention that he shipped the club without more than a flimsy bag over the head. Damage was seen on the box in the exact location of the damage to the club but no external damage was seen on the club when unboxed.  With no way to tell if the club had been damaged, it was taken to the range and after hitting a few balls, the extent of the damage became obvious.

Sfd732's point makes it painfully obvious that the club was damaged during transit but the full extent was not seen until used. I NEVER asked for a refund, just asked for help with either contacting cobra or usps to help in finding a resolution.

so in the future, probably would be better to make the story go:

Damage was seen on the box in the exact location of the damage to the club but no external damage was seen on the club when unboxed.  With no way to tell if the club had been damaged, I notified the seller and returned the club.  The seller likely filed a claim with USPS, but at the end of the day, that’s not my problem.
