Walk or ride in colder weather this winter?

So quick update, I walked and carried. It wasnt super cold but brisk. High may have gotten close to 50 but only for a few minutes ha. It was sunny but a little breezy and I can say walking was definitely the way to go. Wore an Under Armour base layer with 5 pocket pants, a long sleeve polo and then a hoodie and can say I developed a decent little sweat. The only issue I saw was finding that balance. When I removed the hoodie it was a little chilly but keeping it on a felt a little warm. Will probably push next time so I have a the option to bring my speaker and pack some water and snacks.

Completely agree played in 38 this weekend and walking is always better because you’re moving. Like others have said have something to keep hands warm.

Walk as often as you can. I only take a cart in the summer months when it is hot as heck down in the southeast with the humidity 100F+.

My club only has 2 functional carts right now and neither has a windscreen. I will say that makes it a little extra chilly.

Like most others have said, definitely walking.  Much easier to stay loose and in a rhythm.

I walk for exercise and to save money. 

 

My buddies ride and they also have cart covers and heaters..

Either way is fine, just get out there and get some fresh air..

 

It's nice for me.  If I get too cold, I can always get in the cart to warm up or get a ride uphill....

 

I would rather golf at 35 degrees with <5mph wind vs 45 degree with >10mph wind..

Walk. It's better to get a feel for the round and you stay warmer too. Plus it avoids cart path only rules in wet conditions. Plus it's good for your health.

Our course generally opens in April, closes anywhere from Halloween to mid-November. I prefer to walk, split time with carrying and using the pushcart, but I often go by temp + month(s) of the year = decision. April - midJune I tend to walk with the exception of Thursday night men's league (play is far too slow, and I want a place to sit). 

As temps rise in Mid-June through August, I do ride more often than not. Once Labor Day hits, it's walking until course closure.

Walking with a push cart, golf mittens for both hands, waterproof shoes, and a good pair or insulated pants.

It does keep you warmer so walking is good. You have to grab those thermal layers and layer up with some tight clothing before putting on your regular stuff on. Another secret that I learned from someone else also was to put on those thermal patches on the core of your body. It works in keeping you warm.

We have our own cart with fitted cover and a heater.  It got up to 89* in there this morning when we had to wait on a tee for a few minutes. It was 43* outside and blowing.  I don’t know how you get more comfortable than that.

Three of us walked today and one took a cart. The rider walked a ton due to the "carts on path only" restriction. It's hard to get into a good rhythm when you are walking perpendicular to the direction of play.

I walk year round, but my whoop band data is interesting for comparisons.  I run for exercise and my strain for a 4 mile run is around 16.  Walking 18 is around 6.4 miles at my home club and the whoop band strain is around 12.  I know it’s heart rate related, but I’m much more tired after walking 18 than my run!

I like to walk when it gets cold.  I just purchased some cart mittens with a spot for a hand warmers.  Previously I just wore my normal winter gloves.

Once the heat index drops below the 90s, I try to walk as much as possible.  I love winter golf.

I walk 95% of the time anyhow, but we do not have the choice, our courses are “carry only” during winter months.
