Interesting.  So what other hole is being modified?  only asking as left of the image you posted it looks like there is another hole being tweaked?

I don't think other holes are being tweaked but they are doing a large renovation of the irrigation system.  I'd expect temporary modifications to holes as they do work.

The sign to the left is about their irrigation updates, so no changes planned to other holes.

THAT SAID, that wildfire Dancin referred to yesterday was crazy. Not sure how it impacted the course but it sure looked to be surrounding the course. I plan to head over there today to see how the course looks.

They posted that Homestead is back open but Fox Hollow will be closed until further notice (at least the course and range I think, pro shop and restaurant are open).

No damage to Bear Creek as the fire never got north of Morrison road. I would bet the report you heard was referring to Homestead.

I went to check out Fox Hollow today. Quite amazing that there was fire damage covering a large part of the Canyon 9, but I don't think there was any damage to the actual playing surfaces (at least not that I could see from the road). Its like the fire surrounded each hole but didn't damage them. I am wondering if they turned the irrigation on to soak the course, or if the golf turf is perhaps not as flammable? I wouldn't be surprised if people aren't out playing as soon as this coming cold snap is past.

These photos aren't great but this is the number 7 par 4 on the Canyon 9. You can see the tee boxes for umber 8 in the distance on the bottom pic.

Nice. They do have to water the fairways occasionally in the winter if we don't get any precipitation for an extended period whereas the waste grass isn't getting anything. Probably had enough water content that the burn point was higher and the other grasses burned up so quickly it wasn't hot enough near the fairway for it to ignite.

That's crazy you were playing when the fire started. We drove by it, and I told my wife the same thing, some idiot probably smoking and chucked their cigarette into the weeds. I went to Northern California when the fires were raging, and smoking outdoors was completely banned. Every course, rightfully so, lectured you when you checked in not to smoke out there. Probably need something like that in Colorado right now.

Good thing the course was not damaged as bad.  The way the news presented it, the course was "destroyed"....but  that is our media today LOL.

Probably not a correct (PC) statement but I think it looks kind of cool that way.  Its  so unique looking for COL, being the fairways are still good and the areas are black around it.  Like a line was drawn the fire could not get past.  They must of had the sprinklers on or fairways wet as Dancin notes, not sure how it would not burn otherwise.

Edit: Also glad no one got hurt or caught in it.

Good luck!

I usually can only plan as far as tomorrow; June is way too far away for me.

Looking forward to it. I'm jumping in the deep end this year with the FRGC league and a few other trips already in the works. It feels like I'm going to have something happening every month through October. I also talked an acquaintance in to the FRGC league as well. We typically score fairly close, but I'm usually a little surprised at the scores he tells me based on what I'm seeing on the course. Hopefully I can get a few dollars out of him before he realizes what he really shoots when he has to play everything out to the bottom of the cup.

Thinking about joining FRGC.  How long prior to a round does one need to commit?

Typically they reserve 6 foursomes for each tournament; 9 for majors (+/- 1, I think). Based on e-mails, about 4-10 days before the tournament, there is a call out saying there are X spots left, and they will have to give back any unused foursomes back to the golf course. That's when I typically sign up; though usually I let the organizers know at the previous tournament if I'm likely in or out for the next tournament. If the tournament is full, you can always get on the waitlist. It seems like there is a last-minute cancellation once every other tournament.

What are you looking to improve with your game this year?

- get competitive. i.e. no more playing swing. time to play some golf.

Do you plan on joining a club or league this year?

- yep. leaning toward common ground and playing in whatever CGA events i can get into.

Any fun golf trips planned?

- nope. have only played 3 local courses so there's still plenty for me to explore around here. maybe some golf "staycations" 🙂

Considering re-joining the GolfWeek Am Tour. But also considering the FRGC too. Not sure which.

Girl Why Dont We Have Both GIF

I actually just did a quick comparison of both schedules, and you would only have a conflict on 4-5 weekends all season. And the other cool thing is that only 5-6 courses overlap.

This popped up on my news feed today for some odd reason. A funny read. Maybe we should invite him to this thread.

hey gang, so i just joined commonground men's club. can't wait to compete and meet some of you guys out there! who else in this thread is a member?

Just joined as well! Should be fun.  I played out there yesterday.  Wind got a little brutal, especially towards the end, but was a fun round.

I signed up for the CG mens club again, as well.  I was in the men’s club in 2019, but skipped last year.

The events are a lot of fun. There’s a ton of members so there flights are split up to where you’re always in a group that you CAN be competitive in. However with a ton of guys in each flight, you have to play well. Your not going to back door win your flight.

With as busy as CG is all year round, it’s nice to know that by signing up for events you’ll get some weekend tee times without staying up till midnight to login...

CGA charity silent auction starts on Monday. Some pretty sweet golf courses available--many with no or reasonable restrictions.

Pretty good I thought.  Still pretty wet from the recent snow melt but greens were reasonable for this time or year and fairways were in good shape.

looks like aurora got about a foot of snow since yesterday evening! hope it melts quickly.
