New to this thread….but the title had me wondering…..why would you not play one of your top 3 if they were best and still readily available?

I just switched to these New Level irons four rounds ago. So they haven’t made it into my top 3 of all time but they are working on it!

After more time on the course and time in the simulator hitting the 3 sets of irons back to back the Bridgestone’s are my favorite. The balance turf interaction and soft feel are just about perfect. They are also very consistent with launch, spin and distance.

Tough one… I’ve played z785s for 2 years and love them, but all the testing has me liking some others in the feel department. Turf interaction is great if your swing gets along with that sole, but I miss taking some dollar bill divots lol gotta go with this list…

My personal faves of all time:

 

1) Mizuno MP-62.  Basically an MP blade, great feel, not much forgiveness.  I was a 1 handicap when I played them, and needed to be.  They were so pure.  Definitely had the "weird Mizuno short iron shape" though, the PW was not pretty.  

 

2) TM P7MC.  Current gamers.   Love everything about them.  Great feel, just enough forgiveness.  Love the shape.  

 

3) Callaway X Forged (2007).  Alarmingly soft feel.  Originally went in for a new set of Mizuno MPs or Titleist CBs, and tried these on a whim.  Were softer than Mizuno at the time.  Great shape, great feel, decently forgiving.  Extra sleeper were the 2007 X Forged Wedges (with the first Mack Daddy Grooves) were fantastic wedges.  Still some of my favorite to this day.

Haven't played or hit a ton of irons but these would be my top 3 for more recent offerings:

 

1. Apex Pro 19 "dot" - just got these irons , very soft and I think they have nearly perfect shaping. Still have some forgiveness and the distance consistency is amazing. 

2. 19 T100 - 21 is better looking and softer, but these irons pushed the bar forward for how forgiving a very much blade sized package can be. 

3. Mizuno 919T - Still one of the best looking cb irons in the past 5 years imo. Great feel, great looks, tons of tour praise etc. whats not to like..... well in my case the lack of bounce, but still great.

921 Tour were unbelievable. I regret selling mine.

 

The 2021 T100 are hard to beat as far as total package. If you can strike the ball it doesn't matter if you hit it far with their "S" lineup. 

 

Miura CB 501, still the best feeling iron I've hit to date.

Still CB57's and MP64's.   A lot of that loyalty is based on the sole grinds and turf interaction more than distance and dispersion issues off of a driving range mat.

 I just tested a bunch: 718 AP2, 620CB, Z785, MMC MP20, ZX7, Apex Pro 21

 

They all feel incredible when you strike them well.

 

MMC is my favorite, only because it is well balanced, feels great, and is very forgiving.  

Z785 and ZX7: slightly lacking in feel department.  Great performance, sole shape doesn't quite work perfectly for me

620 CB: amazing feel, slightly less forgiving, superb profile at stance

718 AP2: just another great feeling iron on center strikes; equal to anything else  

Apex Pro: not quite as great of feel, smooth and looks great.  for whatever reason, tougher to hit than my MMC for me
