What'd You Shoot Today?

Played a dice tournament today and shot an 89.  I was really good off the tee which is unusual for me but my iron shots and wedges were consistently fat and putting was bad.  Last round, putting and off the tee was bad and irons were great. Time before putting was good and driver and irons were bad.  One of these days I’ll have all three working…

Shot 92 yesterday. I was really inconsistent off the tee and chipping yesterday. I feel like I'm starting to get used to some recent swing changes, now I just need to have a round where I don't shoot myself in the foot.

37 (+1) for 9 holes on Tuesday w/ 15-20 mph wind. 3 birdies and 4 bogeys.

Paired with 2 " I never play golf" guys who were half drunk by the 5th hole. The third of their group was a little older and didn't start drinking until the 4th hole. Nice enough guys, but.....

I left after nine, between the wind and the spray and pray golf, I was done.

Pretty much my usual rando pairing of late......💩🤬

44-38 (82) Temperature was about 37 degrees with wind, very unpleasant, but a day at the course is a good day.

Played my first 9 holes of the year yesterday, and finished with a 39 (1 double, 2 bogies, 1 birdie). Pretty pleased. Had no expectations going into it as I had taken like 10 swings total in the last couple months and it was 38 degrees outside. It was a real struggle to shoot anything under 40 last year simply due to my chipping/pitching. I'm trying to revamp that part of my game and yesterday was a good start.

37.  Birdie and two bogies.  I hit the ball incredibly well.

I had 35 (-1) right in front of me.  Had 20 feet for eagle on the 8th. Then three putted.

Then I three-putted the 9th from 30 feet.

I’m blaming the aerated greens!  Lol.

Even par is the goal this year. My personal best is 76.

78. First game of the year. I had some pretty bad nerve pain in my back flare up the last two weeks, so driving to the course I didn't know If I could swing a club... At the first tee, my playing partner told me we were entered in a club event - the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Kyoto Country Club. It was windy all day. I hit 4 greens. The next best score was 81.

A fellow I was playing with asked me for putting tips after the round.

Then we went to Gion for sushi. If you know you know.

I won a kg of wagyu beef.

Played my first round of golf for the season yesterday.

Well not a full round, got in 14 holes before the weather kicked me off the course, but it felt amazing being out there.

Played 1-13, 17, 18 for a par 49 and shot 60.

I'll preface with a few excu.... I mean, caveats...

Being the beginning of April in Canada, and this course being a walk-on attached to a trailer park, the fairways and greens were not groomed yet understandably.

Nothing was running out much on the fairways if at all, and the greens were about an inch long, so gauging putts was a challenge.

This was my first time playing with my Adams CB1's so I was getting adjusted to the way they play vs my CB2's (CB1's are a smaller head with weaker lofts and heavier shaft).

The wind yesterday was actually pretty crazy. I have a 3-wheel push cart I use and the wind tipped it over once, and almost another time but I was there to catch it.

The positives:

I hit some worldly driver shots - drove the green on a 2 short par 4's (#10-249yds / #11-277yds) and rolled off the back.

The 249 is an elevated tee to a hidden green behind trees on a dogleg left, but you can go over the trees straight at the green. Never managed to do that before, felt great.

The 277 is an elevated green partially into the wind, and managed to hit the green and had it roll off the back.

I was hitting my long clubs (3w, 5hy, Driver) really well, stayed in control with my shots and managed to not lose a single ball.

The negatives:

My chipping SUCKED! It's the only thing I could really work on over the winter since I can chip in my basement. I was super confident going into the round thinking I'd be able to hit any green within 30 yards, but I still underestimate the amount of power needed and end up short a lot of the time. Also chunked a couple.

I did manage to hit a beautiful little 10 yard flop shot onto the 18th green to about 7ft, and drained the putt, so it was a great way to end at least.

Here's the course layout:

Closing in on 80 recently, pretty happy with quick progress in the last 4-6 weeks. 42, 46 on the weekend was my best lowest round at that particular course for an 88, which I play quite often.

Shaved off 5 strokes from the front 9 from the previous week. 2 weeks earlier also scored 42 on the other half, so potential for an 84 coming soon, I hope.....

Need to start taking course management seriously i guess to improve further.

Shot a 73 (+2) in a local tournament, tied for lowest individual round. Surprised myself as that is one of my lower scores, and definitely the lowest in a tournament where there are no gimmies or breakfast balls. Still a little bitter about number 5 though. Sort of has a blindish uphill tee shot. Takes 255 to clear the left bunker so I aimed center fairway and hit my stock fade. Turned out the hole turns quite a bit left, and there is a good size tree blocking the back right pin from where I am at. The pin is also on a massive tier. I decide against trying to clear the tree with LW and take aim left of the pin and hit what I thought was a great SW shot. Landed right I where I wanted it, 12 feet from the hole, but somehow spun back and ran down the hill to 60-75 feet. And of course I 3 putted from there. The other bogeys were deserved and actually decent recoveries, but that one was 2 well executed shots that just werent quite good enough.
