Vice is Now Retail?

So when did Vice go retail?  That's a new one on me.  Saw them at the local Wally World today.  Balls, gloves, hats, bags.  I thought they were DTC.

Some of these DTC brands will in some pro shops or small retail stores. I don't believe they need a massive contract and can still sell at their price point. I think Cut Golf sells in a few retails stores out in California or Arizona.

Been seeing the balls at Target. Even the "super limited GOLD" sold out everywhere ball. Plenty available at all the Target stores around me...

Vice is widely available at every target and walmart near me. Cut is in a few as well.

Snell golf balls at one time were sold by Globalgolf.com. Dean has a few small places where Snell balls were available at retail. Here is one and a post from Dean about it.

Walmart has been selling Vice balls, hats and tees for a few months now.

This is news to me, honestly haven't been to a Wal-Mart in like 2 years. They just suck in Canada, I like US Wal-Marts.

I felt like the Vice balls were not a good value at their $35/dozen price point.  Their strength was in the bulk purchase discount.  Maybe this gets Vice in the hands of more weekend golfers who would never be able to try them otherwise, but I'm not sure how this matches up with their DTC model and branding as an alternative to the big ball companies.  

 

A sales model of $35 per dozen at Walmart and Target feels like what Vice has branded themselves against...

I went into one of the Wally worlds near me and was very surprised to see their golf selection. Personally I think having them in a store like this is a great way to get people to try them, then hopefully they do some research, then hopefully they go buy bulk online.

 

Hell, I found my Cut Blue at Target. They appear to be switching over to the Grey, so I got 6 dozen for $6 apiece, so I'm good for my first 2 rounds. I'll give the Grey a try eventually and if I like it, great, if not I'll save up and buy a bunch of the Blue when Cut has some sort of deal on. I don't know if they do the bulk discount, but I remember seeing ads for free shipping around Valentine's daySee, the idea works!

I noticed my local Wal-Mart will be selling them too.  I say will be, because they had no inventory yet, just the spaces on the shelf for them.  The best deal on golf balls at WM is the $25 a dozen Srixon Z Star, though.

Off topic but if you like the Spalding SD Tour or SD Tour X balls (both urethane) and your local WM has them on clearance for anywhere from $6 - $9, then that's probably the best deal.  There's already a couple of threads on those balls though.

I bought everything they had at $14 a dozen for the SD Tour and $15-$16 a dozen for the SD Tour X.  Altogether I got 7 dozen of the Tour, 11 dozen of the Tour X, and I picked up 4 dozen Srixon Z Star at $25 a dozen.  Those ought to last me a while, but I'll probably still pick up several dozen Snell MTB Black in the near future as well. Looks like I'm starting to ho balls now, too.  Wait, that doesn't sound right...LOL. 🤔

The other threads on the Spalding balls have the brickseek links that give you the in-store prices at WM's near you.  Full price at some, close to $6.00 at others.  TP5 and TP5X practice balls at $19.99 is also a good deal if you don't mind practice balls. Those are available online at several places.

Just got back from a trip to Wally World and they have the Vice balls in stock.  Heck, it might be their full line.  They had about 5 or 6 different ones for sale. The Vice Pro is priced at $35/dozen, so I'll just stick to the Z Stars for $25, thank you very much.

Been playing Vice Pro Soft for a few weeks. Bought them at my local Wal Mart in New Smyrna Beach. Like the ball enough that I ordered 5 dozen balls on the Vice website.

Just saw them at Walmart earlier today and had no idea they shipped inventory there. Ive been researching all winter and hearing how the Vice Pro is the ProV1 killer. I have a box coming in the mail and I sure cant wait to hit them in a few weeks.

 

Whats everyones opinion out there who has played them already? Are they as good as advertised?

Pretty much the same as the Spalding, Maxfli or other mass produced by Foremost or whomever. Essentially house brands that cut out the middle man that have added back the middle man. For 99% of golfers that aren't ego driven, they are the perfect ball.

Yeah their marketing is fantastic. They went straight for that 18-35 year old crowd and it worked as the 'cool' or 'trendy' ball to play. Got me to buy a box haha

I have been playing the Vice Pro Soft. I really like this ball. Does everything that I can possibly ask of it. And I have lowered my HC.

I've been flipping the GOLD and Paint Splash balls on ebay as I guess no one walks into wal mart or target anymore to realize they aren't that limited. Adding it to the putter slush fund along with the Ross Nike shoe deals....

Let them have it, my buddy plays the neon red Vice ball and I dont understand how anybody can hit a ball with a color design on it. It screws with my eyes when I address the ball too much lol

I swear, with some of the matte glowing color balls like red, it really hurts my eyes to look at them.

Vice Pro is a very nice ball, especially for the $.  I like the lime green, very visible in flight and on the ground.
