Srixon ZX5 irons? Are they for real?

Yes, they are real. You can purchase them through Srixon or golf dealers. 😉 They kinda suck though... don’t feel nearly as good as the zx7 or other irons in similar forgiveness class like JPX 921 forged/HMP and Apex. Their sole grind also isn’t as effective as the zx7.  I considered a combo of zx5/7 but wasn’t impressed at all with the 5 so went jpx921 forged/tour combo instead.

Only positive is they look better than previous 5.

This is my first set of irons with thick bottoms since my first couple of sets (I've gone through many from the S55s to the Pro Combos to the 765s) and I can say that I hate thick soled clubs...UNTIL THESE! I love them and would only consider a combo set with some ZX7s in 8-P.

I am playing a combo set of ZX5/7.  4,5,6 are the 5s with rest of set being ZX7.  They are the real deal.  Specifically to answer your question they are super easy to hit and elevate.  I had given up on 4 irons but with the ZX5 it is back in the bag.  I am a high ball hitter and the Srixons do hit high but don't balloon on me.  I have game the 210s which are great irons but the feel (which I know is subjective) if better for me with the Srxions.

Same for me. I went from 5i to a hybrid. I decided to try the 4i and glad I did. Now the hybrid is completely out of the bag and I go from ZX5 4i to a ZXU 3i. The long irons are just SO easy to hit. I'm a low ball hitter, and these have been great for me. My trajectory is significantly higher than it used to be, and I can actually stop a ball on the greens now (when I hit the green... but that is a different story. 🙂 )

Yes, they are real.  Yes, they are in the bag.  6-AW.   I compared them to Callaway Apex and Apex CDB and the ZX5 was way better for me.  Better feel, better distance, better trajectory.  When you look down at the iron heads, they have the same top line thickness as the ZX7.  While the sole may appear wide, they don't play wide.  Perhaps the v sole has something to do with it.  I have hit some amazing shots with them.  6 iron to 6 inches on a par 3.  7 iron to 3 ft on the same par 3 a week later.

Do they do the SUP 10 faces also? Or just the body?

Per Srixon's website:

"MULTI-PIECE CONSTRUCTION
Tungsten in the toe of ZX5's long and mid irons (3i-7i) increases MOI for more stability and forgiveness. A forged SUP10 face enhances speed and distance while a forged 1020 Carbon Steel body absorbs vibrations for an extremely soft feel."

Right... I was asking if Endo forged the faces as well as the bodies. Or did they just forge the bodies since the faces are not 1025.

Ah, I see. My bad.

I havent read anything about the potential for the faces to be forged elsewhere. Your guess is as good as mine!

I have been playing a set of ZX5 irons since March.  I have played about 8 rounds with them so far.  For me, the simulator performance blows away what I see on the course.  I love the look and feel.  They are playable, and I don't hook the long irons anymore(my problem coming from 714 AP1's).  However, I am not digging the flight so much.  They seem to launch to a point, and drop out of the sky.  Not sure if it is a shaft issue, but I have a re-fit at the end of April.  If the flight stays the same, I will probably move along.  They seem to be playing shorter with less spin.  Look and feel is great though.

This is the first set of irons I have played with a small amount of offset, and I love that aspect.  I have no issue with the sole at all, and actually like the feeling of the VT sole through the turf.  I don't understand the negative talk about the soles.  Hit the ball first, and it's not a real issue.

Anyone compare these vs the Callaway Apex line? I play the ‘16 Apex irons and have been tempted to upgrade to the ‘19 or ‘21 series but wonder if anyone has hit the zx5 and the Apex and can chime in on differences/similarities? Thanks.

Note: I played the z545 for a few years and switched to the Apex cause they spin a little more for me and did give me better height than the 545 did.

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.

Yes, The new Apex's were right there with the ZX5's. My numbers were identical with both. I went with the Srixon's basically because I've never owned a Srixon club and I thought the ZX5's felt a bit better than the Apex. Also because they were a bit cheaper too.

I compared them both in the simulator and had pretty much identical numbers using the same shaft. I liked the look of the srixons ZX5s better, as they have a thinner topline. My fitter who is also a used to be pro said that the Srixons are the real deal. Those two things led me to tip to getting the ZX5s. And they are a tad cheaper.

I actually went from a combo set of 585-785 to all ZX5's.  I'd do it again. The ZX7's are really great feeling, but the ZX5's feel very good for the type of iron they are, and for me the ZX7's weren't as forgiving as the Z785's.  I could play all ZX7's, but why make the game harder.   I also have no issue with the larger sole of the X5's

Well after playing these a few more times,I've changed my tune.  The ZX7's fit my swing better.  Hit a lot of low bullets on tight lies and hardpan lies.  The thinner sole has helped my out .  Could also be that I have a heavier shaft in the ZX7's.  I still have some sets of ZX5's with the Modus 105, but I seem to hit the irons better with a little heavier shaft.  Choices, choices???

Got to hit a z765 the other day and loved it and now that has my contemplating getting some zx5s and selling off my gen 1 0211s. Oh the humanity and my pocketbook as I’d be at a loss.
