Glad to see Fleetwood take Hulk down. NBC sounded so disappointed.

 

I tend to root for Na, but that move with DJ was really petty on the surface. A quiet conversation on the next tee would have sufficed. I wonder if there is some previous history there.

DJ yanked up his ball without a concession.

 

Na could have claimed the hole, he didn't.

 

Instead of saying nothing and potentially using Rockhead's behavior against him later or for whatever other reason, Na, before they teed off on the next hole made sure DJ comprehended what had happened.

 

Sportsmanlike gesture, but you wouldn't get that.

Absolutely agree. While Na may be technically in the right, making DJ tramp back to the green was unnecessary. A quiet word on the next tee would be more appropriate.

Maybe, but that was the scene of the issue and DJ just loped off, nothing wrong with making him come back.  The rest, TV cameras, not their problem.

 

You really think there is such a thing as a quiet word on the tee, lol?  Right before he tees off?  You'd be all over him for that.

Oh yes, very "sportsmanlike". I'm sure him playing out of turn on a kick in really affected Na's next putt, especially since he was already eliminated. Replay a 6 inch putt? Give me a break. Let me guess, you're the guy that putts out a 2 incher playing with the wife on Sunday...

That's not what happened. DJ picked his ball up before Na told him it was good.

Na says "hole was halved" and just asked DJ to wait for him to say it's good. It's the rule.

Na was protecting DJ.

Thanks and my mistake on DJ finishing by putting out.

 

Makes it even more sportsmanlike.

 

Solheim Cup situation a few years ago that blew up but kind of in reverse with it happening this time the way "everyone" thought it should have happened in that situation and getting all worked up about it.  Can't satisfy those determined to impose their situational views of courtesy.

This is not The Players and I am not commenting on Na, other than he was absolutely correct in this situation.

DJ totally in the wrong and should take the advice given to him and learn from it.

See @b.helts above.  I had switched over an instant too late and missed the pickup, which was even dumber than putting out.

 

And I like Faldo, but his joking that this should have been some sort of buddy buddy thing was off base.

I've never had anyone pick up before I've conceded, but I have had people tap in, therefore playing out of turn.

 

I normally just mention it quietly, unless they are a foot taller than me, then I congratulate them on a nice two- putt. 😁

I’m not clear on the rule.  Does the match played format allow a player to concede a putt after it was prematurely picked up by an opponent?  And what Is the penalty for a “self concession”?

I think the final say belongs to the other player.  NA could've said, "I didn't concede so you DJ lose" and that would be the correct call.

Im not sure on the correct verbiage , but I think it depends where the player picks up the ball...if its picked up anywhere but on the green , its considered a concession and loss of the hole...if its on the green and marked its not considered conceded until the opponent either removes the marker or verbally concedes the upcoming putt or the hole itself

Suppose it's a bit of a grey-area as there's no defined way to conceded. Some people say "that's good" or " pick it up" or similar. Alternatively, others just nod or turn and walk towards the next tee.

I had a guy run a short putt in out of turn while holding the flagstick, which he hit with his ball on the 12th hole of a match.  I won the hole with my next putt anyway, although I'd already won it, lol, and bit my tongue.  He was a guy that played in a rush all the time and none of us were match play wizards, but it was in our annual tourney.  On the 15th he again moved fast after his first putt was short and I knew what was about to happen and I stopped him and explained why he needed to wait.  He was appreciative.
