ugliest finish I’ve seen in a long time ...

totally agree....as much as I used to like Colonial, the course is looking real outdated by current Tour standards and not so sure that $20M redux is going to change much...when guys are hitting irons off the tee on the finishing holes , that is a huge let down

JS just seemed off the last 12 holes. Super anxious about yardages, driver was out of play, chipping not that good. JK handed this thing to Speith so many times. Congrats JK for the win.
Speith I don’t think Speith will play memorial well.

Yea I went and followed him today and I was shocked about the chipping. Yeah he always sprays it in contention but he’ll usually make some clutch chips. Today they just weren’t close not sure why.

Always been a lot of irons off 17 and 18 tees.  I'm betting that a bunch of trees will be gone, bunkering redone, but there's not a lot of room to radically change holes.

I'm far from a swing guru but JS swing just looks so sloppy and loose (top of backswing). Something just looks different.

Obviously he just finished 2nd so pretty damn good for someone with a sloppy swing. So he's making it work and damn near could of won.

Absolutely agree. His right arm has always been different, but consistently different. It was his left arm that wasn’t in form, especially with the driver. His left arm was everywhere. He’s always had his own swing, nothing wrong with that, but you’ve got to commit to your own swing. He was lost today.

Has he always rehearsed a big over the top move? Or is that new

Yeah, he's always had that left arm chickenwing thing going on.  I tend to subscribe to the theory that you can make an unconventional swing work, but it's going to be tougher sledding.

just the opposite, the trees are really the only defense Colonial has right now, they cant find an extra 3-500 yards on the property and they cant exactly reroute the Trinity...the guys were hitting gap wedges and SW's into all the holes...if it didnt have such close ties to Hogan I wonder if it would still have the tournament there....look at what has happened to the Nelson...Preston Trail> Bent Tree>Las Colinas> Crenshaw dump> TPC Craig Ranch> eventually Frisco

How often do tournaments like this happen; I.e., when it comes down to who plays least bad?  And is it happening more now than it did during the Golden Eras (Jack and Arnie and Gary in the 60s and 70s; Tiger in the late 90s and 00s)?

I’m not so certain it’s a matter of eras, you just referenced a few of the greats, who were known for consistently holding onto leads when they got them, and once in a blue moon, chased guys down by making birdies. I’m sure even in the 60’s and 70’s, guys not in the big the big three were bleeding away wins at the Timbuktu Open.

Perhaps it’s even more noticeable now though because; 1) you have so many guys who can win every week, and 2) golf is so, so, so hard during times of extreme psychological stress stimuli... even for the best players in the world. So you have a situation where highly skilled players are relatively infrequently under situations in which there stress stimuli are raised so high that it looks like a choke when Max Homa misses a 3.25 footer on the 72nd hole or where Kokrak literally puts a ball off the green on the 69th hole, tasks which would be performed with 99.5% success rates without stress.

it is fascinating though.

No it doesn't also the during the rehearsal he collapses at the top. Crazy to think he could of won. Again what do I know.

Tiger was rehearsing that exact same move in practice swings of recent years.  It isn't supposed to be literal, but rather an exaggerated drill/feel in the pre-shot routine.  Sir Nick probably enlightened us regarding the purpose at some point of the broadcast, but my mute button was employed. 🤷‍♂️

? it stood up well, what does it matter if they play irons, the trees make it challenging I love it
