I played with a guy like that years ago...a very good friend of a friend of mine. I was a beginner and they were both scratch or better. Apparently this guy was scratch when sober, but could shoot course records when slightly tipsy. If he was allowed to drink on the course, he'd be a touring pro (his dad actually was back in the day)...

Which is why I don't watch reality shows.  I expect this to be different because it's not manufactured reality like "survivor" or "the bachelor", but is following people doing a job that they were already doing.  Perhaps I expect too much.

You expect too much. I watched Season 5 Ep 1 of Drive to Survive last night. One of the 1st scenes is the Netflix producer asking Toto Wolfe (Team Principal @ Mercedes) if he's excited to continue the documentary. Toto chuckled and said, "You're not making a documentary".

These production teams are filming as much as possible then the editors are trying to cut it up into compelling stories. They overplay any drama and try to minimize the boring blocking and tackling of life as a professional athlete. You'll never get the full truth because the full truth is pretty dull.

Wake up, work out, simulator work / range work, business call with agent, strategy session with team / conversation w/ swing coach, more practice, sleep. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's like Instagram, you're only getting the highlights.

God given talent and ability! His dad “once in a while we’d go to a real range to see where the ball was actually going”. Pretty amazing stuff indeed.

Really is tremendous, huh?

I'd love to learn more about Tony's story. It's a Lee Trevino or Chi Chi Rodriguez sort of jam.

And back to the Dahmen thing as well. He didn't come across as a guy with much of a work effort - and clearly plenty of struggles - yet he's good enough to be on tour. "Good enough to be on tour."

Like we see so frequently around here stories of playing with "that guy." The one that just goes out and bombs it seemingly effortlessly at the clubs we play at and we're amazed ... and they're ALSO not good enough to be on tour.

That, I think, could be a great angle. To show just how good these guys are.

Damn. I shouldn't have left the Hollywood marketing biz. 😂

Show ended up how I thought..... M Fitz answers door and tells friend to watch his mouth cause cameras on.... boring factor going way up

If F1 show didn't exist Full Swing would seem less bland...

Golf by nature aint exciting like F1..... only 20 spots available vs hundreds of dudes that rotate in and out of tour....... F1 driver you're a rock star known by all fans, golf oh you're on tour Ive never heard of you even tho Im on a golf board and avid fan lol

Golf fans in 1982 with nothing but crappy tv reception of a few hours of events and no other media coverage. And if you miss it live, you’re out of luck and see 15 seconds of highlights on the evening news.

”This is great!”

Golf fans in 2022 with 5 live streams of featured groups, featured holes, super HD you can see grains of sand flying, rewind, replay, dvr, on demand highlight reels, individual player media accounts, drone cameras, shot tracker, shot tracer, and movie studio produced, multi-episode, in-depth, on demand streamed, docu-series featuring the pros on tour,

”This stinks!”

🤣

It's the microwave phenomenon.  Human nature in its purest form.

When we first got a microwave in the early 80s-ish, I was absolutely filled with wonder and amazement at how fast it cooked food.......for about 2 months. Ever since, I stand there tapping my foot agonizing at how long the GD thing takes!

What it is is what every reality show is. They chop it up/edit it to portray what they want the audience to see. I get your point, but it’s to be expected going in. I was watching a documentary and they said the only true reality show (just simply showing what was going on organically w/no manipulation) was the very 1st season of the ‘Real World’ on MTV. It’s all just entertainment.

Even at the most amateur film-making level, if you film a weekend trip with your buddies with half an hour footage and turn it into 10 minutes, you're going to pick the most interesting parts and it's going to take a narrative of its own, Netflix had thousands of hours of footage, you have to put that into a digestible narrative or else nobody will care. That's just how it works.

I think Koepka got mentally destroyed by losing to Phil in the 2021 PGA Championship.  He spent a lot of time cultivating his tough-guy, DGAF image, which people bought into because he won majors and picked fights with everyone's favorite whipping-boy, Bryson.  Phil took him out at the PGA, which shattered his confidence, and he hasn't won anything since.

The likelihood is that what they showed onscreen is far closer to the real Koepka than anything they left out.

I think it was mostly injuries.

Admittedly I'm an old grouch, but

Episode 1 saved by Justin's father, hard to root for junior and his truculent attitude. Dad's thoughts were great, like see him discuss golf for an episode.  Spieth nice but no stage presence.  Funniest line when producer of spieth commercial ( the unfunny one where he gives a guy a mop) says Jordan is a natural LoL. Sure so is a piece of driftwood.

Episode 2, koepka clan unattractive, can't sympathize with a sullen humorless 4 time major champ.  No interest in the influencer.

Episode 3, getting distracted, poulters game is gone.  Are his kids speaking with an American or English accent? Why rappaport and Amanda say nothing?  Chamblee is billed as retired or ex tour player, wtf? Private jet travel is the way to go! What's the minimum buyin for a Gulfstream IV?  No security check and you practice putt the length of the cabin, so cool! Why Foley?

I guess Netflix hopes viewers are choosing this over another doc about a cult or autistic kids looking for love......

How 'of the people' did it make you feel watching JT and Jordan playing 'guess the card' for $1,000 on the plane?  I wonder if he ever paid up, or they keep a running tab in a small notebook next to the deck of cards on the plane?  I like hearing the stories of the practice rounds of the 'no-betting-on-tour' tour.  No way is the normal person playing for that kind of dough, but it's still neat to know they're not afraid to still make the less meaningful rounds entertaining and competitive.
