New LAB golf putter—Mezz

No.  Switched to a Mezz. I play too great a variety of green speeds.  Soup to nuts.  A small stroke on fast greens was ideal with the B2, but full swinging putting strokes on stimp 7 old school bermuda was too hard to control.

I needed the MOI help of the Mezz.  It has a bit more onset than the B2, but less than a DF 2.1 and something I could accommodate.  It's a winner.  Last putter I will ever play.

Absolutely.  See my above edit. Best kept secret in equipment by far.

Just got my custom Mezz broomsticks.  Man the new colors look AWESOME.  I went with the Accra shafts for the red and orange, I have had the black one for a while, which has the LA Golf shaft.

The anodized red is a true red, unlike the maroon of the 2.1.  It is a soft but strong color in person.  Looks seriously nice.  But god DAMN does that orange look good!!  It’s perfect.  Thank you LAB for finally making the orange putter of my dreams.

LA golf shaft vs the Accra: they both feel and perform great - the info on my blast was nearly identical.  The feel of the LA Shaft is like 20% more “solid”, is the best way I can describe it.  I noticed with my Accra standard length DF2.1 that it almost felt spongy - I would not describe the broomstick this way.  You feel the vibration more with the Accra.  Both the Accra and the LA Shaft feel pleasant in different ways - imo either is a fine choice.  I don’t strongly favor one over the other.

FWIW, I have a DF2.1 with the OG standard Stability shaft - that one feels the most stiff.  They all feel premium.  I would absolutely go with an upgraded shaft (no wrong choice on manufacturer), especially with a broomstick or an arm-lock.

I’ve said this multiple times on multiple threads, but I will say it one more time: this is the best putter company in the world.  This club does more for you than any club in history.  If you are putting with ANYTHING else, you are making putting unnecessary harder on yourself.  Get fitted, pony up, get one of these.  You will shave strokes off of your game and love putting.

Had my Mezz.1 for about a month now and have played two rounds with it and putted on my Perfect Practice. I definitely am loving the putter so far but have noticed two things: When playing, the putts don't seem to break as much as I would expect (based on my reads and for 7-10 ft putts). Is this typical with the putter? It just seems to be going straighter than expected! Do I need to adjust? Second observation: when I am putting in the perfect practice at home, some backstrokes I can feel that "weightless-ness" of the no torque (1/3 of the time) and others I can feel how heavy the putter is (assuming I am still torquing it). Is there a drill to practice so that I get the "no-torque" feeling or does this just take time and more consistency?

I had that weightless feeling. I added weight to it (lead tape) and sent it back to LAB for them to add weight and re-balance). I have it back now and I'm so happy with the putter.

Try to using super light grip pressure with your thumbs off and hovering above the grip. Let the weight of club sit more in the area of your palm that's closest to the butt of the putter grip.

Are you generally a heavier head weight or standard? I can't figure out which once I'd like, but I prefer slightly above standard, but not too heavy. I wonder how big of a weight difference it is between standard and heavy

I ordered before they announced the new options.

I requested mine be built just 10g heavier than standard. Perfect for me. It doesn’t feel heavy but it gets the ball to the hole. Dialing in the speed is really all I am doing with this putter because it is so smooth.

What I like so far is simple: Putts are easy to start on line and this forward press shaft alignment definitely works for me. I am getting very consistent impact on the face. Much smoother roll. The Accra shaft feels very connected. Didn’t know how I’d do with a center shaft but the way the Mezz is designed the shaft is not bothering me and I can see the ball starting where I want.

I’ve been doing the no thumbs drill that is on their site. Really helps take the hands out of it and let the putter do it’s thing.

I definitely prefer a heavier head on my putters.

Using the broomstick here.  I’ve had the Mezz since June and I WILL NEVER LOOK BACK.  Distance has come around and this thing just wants to start on line as long as you let it.  I believe I have “untorqued” myself!

Looking awesome, but why do you need so many broomsticks 😛

I don’t.  They are all different though (weights, shafts) for different conditions.

I really just wanted to show the blue Mezz XL - I hadn’t been able to find a real life photo for that previously.

Is the blue one a Max? If yes, it doesn’t look bigger than the others on the picture.

I ordered the Mezz.1 in standard shaft.

Let's say if I want to reshaft it with BGT in the future, would it throw off the balance? Do I need to send it back to Lab or I can simply get my local fitter to reshaft?

I think you could buy the shaft from them, but you could also have your local fitter do the shaft, then send the putter to LAB to rebalance it.

FWIW I bought @Kball10's armlock w/Accra & played my first round with it on Sunday.  Had a few lip-outs but it was extremely solid, especially considering it was my first round with Mezz and first time ever trying the armlock style.  I'll keep it in my bag through the fall and see where it takes me.

Curious about the See More center shafted putter.  I ordered the Mezz and am excited to get it but my playing partner uses a see more and I’m just curious how that would do in the revealer?  The B.2 looks VERY similar to the see more.

So the basic design of the See More is mostly torque free about the vertical (gravity) axis.  If that was the axis you swung your putter on then the See More would be very similar to a Lab B.2.

However, the Lab folks tweak the mass distribution of the B.2 such that it is torque free about the lie angle axis.  This axis is the one you swing the putter on and varies from person to person, hence the customized approach Lab uses.

Now if you putted with each one, could you tell a difference? Most folks can I suspect, but it might not be a big difference or it might be.  Depends on your feel.  I believe the Lab guys have mentioned that the center shafted See More does better than most other putters on their Revealer, but not as good as any Lab putter. @labgolf

Just my cheap 2 cents, but I love the torque free concept in reducing variables.  I think the Mezz looks the coolest of the ones out (vs Axis1, Edel) with its angular design.  Might CAD one up with a ball scoop in the back to see if LAB would make one 😉

I know PGASS carries stock DF2.1 in store.  Do they also carry Mezz or Mezz Max? I am about to pull trigger on my 2nd DF2.1 but want to feel stock lie angle before pulling trigger.  The stock one that I felt before was more suited to me than what I was fit for originally.  I’d like to feel again.  Would love to see a Mezz max first to see if it tempts me.  I’ve tried the regular Mezz and much prefer the DF2.1 stability.

the blue is lighter than the DF2.1.  All the Mezz XLs seriously look fantastic in person.

I have just ordered a Mezz Max broomstick. First time ever using this method always been interested in it. It's always made sense to for taking hand manipulation out.

I have a question for you on your stroke. Are you a shoulder rocker or right hand only putter.

I will try both when it arrives but really looking forward to giving it a go.

Shoulder rocker all the way. Tried the pendulum and it’s a no go. I think you will have a serious eye opening how good this putter will be. Enjoy and let us know.

@manVSgolf any issues with glare on that blue finish? I really like it, but am a little hesitant.
