Anyone using Nikon Coolshot???

Recommended Posts

I had a Precision Pro a few years ago and struggled shooting distances consistently.  Went back to my Garmin GPS.  Thinking of trying a rangefinder again.  Read a few reviews on the Nikon Pro and 50i, but they don't seem to be a favorite on here.  Anyone have experience with these?  Any suggestions for one with a shaky hand?

I have a Nikon coolshot pro stabilized. And I like it a lot, mainly for the stabilization.  I understand that the beam is not stabilized, only the view, but it feels better not looking through a shaky view finder.  It captures the distance quickly and I like the circle confirmation.

Before that I used a bushnell tour with jolt.  It worked well, but I don’t miss the jolt and a stable viewfinder works better for me.

I have the Nikon Coolshot 80i VR and have found it to be very easy to target compared to others. I love the image stabilization as with others I had the problem with the image shaking, making it hard to target.

Coolshot 20G here.  Love it.  I can usually shoot one handed and can shoot multiple targets without a lock.  It can be a little shaky in the viewfinder if I'm catching my breath but it still picks up a flag.

I especially like being able to shoot multiple targets without an instant lock.  IIRC it takes 7 seconds to lock the number so it's possible to scan for 7 seconds.

I recently got a Nikon Cool Pro Shot II and have about 36 holes under my belt using it and feel it was the correct choice.  When I was trying to decide between it and a Bushnell, the three things that were the deciding factors over the Bushnell were the Nikon optics, the stabilization function and the 5 year warranty.

I love my Coolshot Pro Stabilized. I don't have steady hands, so the stabilizing feature was something I was really excited about. The case it comes in is really one of the worst, but I just bought a separate one off Amazon. People have said it is small so that's one thing to consider, but I don't think so. Before that I had a Bushnell Tour V5. I liked everything about it as well, but like I said, I don't really have steady hands. The one thing I really missed was the magnetic feature.

ive got the Pro Stabilized and love it. Definitely has the most clear lens of any range finder ive tried

I read elsewhere too a complaint was its too small... Personally I dont know why anyone would want a big rangefinder. I dont consider the Nikon to be small but kind of a weird complaint if you ask me. Everything is very visible in the lens

I’ve got the slightly older model (80i VR), and one issue that I learnt the hard way is that using a magnetic strap case has an adverse effect on the VR function. My VR no longer works, and despite being well within the 5 year warranty, Nikon’s response was to either charge me around $390 to ‘repair’ it (in reality they would have sent me a refurbished but obsolete model), or they offered me a very small discount on a new one (about the cost of shipping).

neither option was all that compelling, so for now I use it but without the VR function, and will at some stage buy a replacement, but likely not a Nikon, given their worthless warranty.

Was there any warning in the manual, etc to keep the rangefinder away from magnetic fields?

So you are saying that a product that appears to have damaged the Nikon, that was not sold by Nikon, and was probably developed after the 80i VR was released is the responsibility of Nikon to repair the rangefinder at no charge. Actually the manufacturer of the magnetic holder is the one you should be going after. They damaged the rangefinder and should be responsible for the repair. The seller of the strap appears to have failed to properly shield the magnets and did not do their proper research to determine if the magnets would damage rangefinder devices.

I purchased the Nikon Stabilized Pro II and am returning it because the image shakes. Is that a known problem? Is the Stablized I better for that issue?

I don’t have the 80i VR manual anymore, but I don’t believe there was any warning about using a magnetic case with it. Certainly no one at PGA SS mentioned anything when I bought both items. I merely mention the issue I had as (1) a warning to others not to use such a case with a Nikon VR device, and (2) to point out that Nikon’s CS response was a disappointment.
As to ipb123’s question about image shaking, that sounds similar to how mine behaved as the VR began to fail. Just as you would steady the aim on the pin the image would jerk to the side. Made the device almost unusable.

I know a couple people using the Nikon VR models and they love them.  The early models (non-VR) from several years ago had some issues but the latest ones have past problems seemingly worked out. Something to consider if you're looking at used models.

Having used several others (precision pro, blue tees, and coolshot pro) I much prefer the coolshot pro due to the optics.  The display is so much brighter and easier to read vs the others. That said, Costco is currently selling the prior version for $260 vs the newest model which was just released and is $449. This is my second Nikon due to my previous one having been stolen.

Mrs. Claus got me a Nikon CoolShot Pro II Stabilized.  I gave it a test run today against my GPS and was extremely impressed.  The optics were very clear making it very easy to use.  I had another rangefinder a few years ago and ended up selling it.  It struggled with catching the flag with trees in the background.  No problems with the Nikon.  I was shooting pins from over 400 yards with ease.  This might not sound difficult, but I do not have a steady hand.  Absolutely no issue.  I had difficulty getting pins from outside 250 with the other one.  I wanted to give a quick review in case people are looking at one.  I will post updates as things move along.  Of course golf in PA is quickly coming to an end this season.

Now I have to get the Mrs. a very nice present for the next holiday!!!!!!

I was pretty torn between the Coolshot proii stabilized and the Bushnell pro XE. After lots of reading I went with the Nikon. I love it. Extremely easy to use. Fast, accurate yardages.  Love the size. 5 year warranty. No cons so far.

Just got a Nikon Coolshot Pro (the first version)! So excited to use it on the course. I see a door I shoot will differ by +/- 1 yard from less than 10 yards away as I keep shooting it... but I guess that's okay to work with?

EDIT: Shooting it around the house a little more, it jumps around in yardage on multiple readings in slope mode. Pure distance it seems to be consistent so probably just calculating. Not that being off by a yard matters with how bad I am at golf lol. First range finder and cant wait to take it out!

I tried the Coolshot Pro Stabilized.  I did not like it.  A review site noted a con that it is "too light."  I laughed when I read that.  When I got mine, I indeed thought it was too light and thus caused less stability.  Sold it after two rounds and kept my Leupold 4Xi2. I must be on year 9 with it already.

I just received on from Amazon. I like it’s ease of use. Mine has a rattle like somethings loose inside. Not like something broke off inside just like something larger moves around. I was wondering if they all do this? The box Amazon shipped the manufacture’s packaging in (it’s box) did not have any bubble wrap or foam noodles to protect it during shipment.
