Shorten hybrid length to match iron length?

I'd hit them first for awhile before starting to change them.  Need to check the yardages and see if the gapping still works for you

Check the gapping first! Sometimes shorter shaft gives you more control, but sometimes the gapping is perfect and you don't want to mess with swing weight, lie, etc.

I settled on a 39" 5h after going 38.25" on the 1st attempt

I’ve had success playing hybrids an inch short, but make sure to tip trim instead if butt cut because the shaft will effectively play a little less stiff because of the extra weight you’ll need to add to the clubhead to get the SW right.

It depends. Are you talking about traditional hybrids, or iron-replacement hybrids.

Traditional hybrids are stand-alone clubs with lofts and shaft lengths somewhere woods and numbered irons.

Iron-replacement hybrids are made in conjunction with selected iron models of the company. The IR hybrids have shaft lengths and lofts that are pretty close to the numbered irons they are meant to replace.

I’ve got a 4 hybrid that I use interchangeably with my 3 iron (which I play 3/4” over standard for what it’s worth). Same shaft, same grip, same head weights, same loft. Works pretty okay for me.

I replaced my fairway woods with hybrids of the same loft and made the shafts longer to be the same as the fairway woods were. I also made all my iron shafts longer than standard because that's what gave me the best results. There is no right or wrong where shaft lengths are concerned. There's only what works for you.

I cloned a 4-hybrid to the 4-iron spot. Same playing length, shaft, lie, loft, and swingweight. It’s an 818h2 and I tracked down a heavier weight to get there (the fade weight gives me straight flight). I like it a lot. Basically identical distance to my 4-iron but it goes higher with zero effort.

i don’t get along with traditional hybrids with long shafts and light heads and all. I don’t carry it to hit the ball farther. I want the benefit of the head and the sole and the ballflight, and this does it.

Obviously you can start with lead tape, but a head with lots of weight adjustment is your friend here. Ping, Titleist, and PXG all fit the bill in that regard.

message if you have any questions about the things I’ve tried in order to figure it out.

I've been playing my hybrids with the same shaft, length, loft, and lie of the irons they replaced for years now. No reason to change.

I play a lofted hybrid at 5i length with a 5i shaft to match my irons. I have tip weighted it and then fine tuned the swingweight with the adjustable weights after build (TS2) definitely one of the better experiments I have done for my game. I find it very easy to hit as a 210 yard club can be.

It worked so well for me to replace my 5i that my brother has just asked me to do the same thing for him with his 4i. Tried it on course for the first time last week and he is loving it and wishes he had listened to me when I first started at him to get a blade 4i out of his bag! Distance is the same as his 4i but ease of hitting and distance loss on miss hits isn't as penalising.

Tread carefully ... your hybrids could end up with very light swing-weights.

Head wgt of a hybrid should be the same as the iron head it replace, so it becomes a question of shaft wgt and balance point of the hybrid shaft vs iron shafts.

Rule of thumb - max 30 grams below on shaft wgt, maximum 1.0" inch longer than the iron we replace
All options from that and back against "same length same shaft" will work

This will only work correctly with Single Length hybrids. Look at the cobra f8 or f9 one length hybrids.
