I didn't join them until Hole 14 so I only witnessed one bogey from her where she overshot a green.  I had the same group today, though, and you obviously know she withdrew.

I think there’s a fine line between making Pine Needles too easy and unfairly hard. 
 

If the USGA is gonna err on this, erring on the east side is better.

Pine Needles is wonderful.  Great course for women to play.  We saw few interesting shots 

 

Mel Reid played better than scored.   Putting these greens is really tough 

 

the course is basically fairway & waster areas/bunkers.  Very unique   Beautiful course.   The elevation changes are amazing 

 

Hannah Green just pure’d every shot we saw 

 

Anna Davis looked quite frustrated with pace of play    Rooting for her.  The greens are just tough    That was the area of play that was slow.

"I’ve gone through a lot of procedures so far and with the process of elimination we are narrowing it down,” she said. “It’s going to take time.”

I’ve only played in the Sandhills once.  It seems like wind is less of a factor there due to the heavy tree cover.  I think you’re onto something.  Let’s see tomorrow.

Maybe. Sand based soil, as they are playing on fairways and greens this week, drains quicker and dries out faster than a clay based soil. Also consider the USGA hasn't used the most difficult pin positions yet this week to say nothing of the green speeds that they can tweak. They also haven't played the course at full length.

 

Of course if the scoring gets too hard they can do what they did at Oakmont in 2010 for the final round. Shorten the course, slow the greens down and use the most accessible pin locations on every green to manufacture lower scores as not to embarrass the ladies playing. FWIW the cut in 2010 was +10. Even with heavy rain on Friday.

 

I doubt most here recall how the USGA seriously dumbed down the final round at Oakmont in 2010. It was a joke. Hopefully that doesn't happen this weekend. It does a disservice to the women playing.

I spent Thursday and Friday on the course following several different players. Nelly, Lizette, Allison Lee, Ciganda, Harigae, SY Kim, Olson, Boutier, and many more. 
 

The course is beautiful. However, the natural areas lining the fairways and tee boxes make if difficult for spectators to get as close as they would at other venues. Not a complaint, just an observation. 
 

The pace of play is slooooowwwwww.  Not all players are slow, but the majority are. It was like watching paint dry. I know this is a major, but too slow is too slow.

Pace of play is sadly lacking. It kills me when players walk up to their drives in the fairway, one player eventually hits, and then the next player starts a discussion with their caddie. Ugh. They were standing their for over a minute, and now they start their process?

My wife is in a learn to play program at our course, and actually hasn’t progressed from the range to the course. We were watching a group on 18, and they were getting ready to hit their second shots. The green was clear well before they got to their balls, and they took forever to get their yardage and pull a club. All the sprinkler heads have yardage to front, middle, and back, and there was a very light, consistent breeze. My wife, the novice, asked me what the heck they were doing. Not all were slow, but some were very slow.

To be fair, there are a number of quick players. Nelly is very quick. How many times has the TV broadcast almost missed her approach shot because the camera wasn't quick enough to cut over to her?  I swear she's hit a number of shots while her playing partner's ball is still in the air. 

 

Now, I can see if the first player to hit has their shot do something odd like completely fly the green, and the other player(s) wants to discuss a possible club change with their caddie. However, waiting in the fairway for the green to clear should give each player in the group plenty of time to select a club, and be ready to hit.

Yesterday, was happy to have Eun-Hee and Andrea Lee again (Ai S. withdrew). For the second day in a row, I was sent out with an early (obscure) group and my radio didn't work. Ridiculous! Had to hike back to #9 for pm group AND a hookup with another new radio. Andrea down the middle all day long, albeit shorter than Eun-Hee. Got out before the rain but it wasn't as bad as predicted. The "Drone" crew guys told me no lightening in the area so they'd finish BUT "we're done as we can't fly in the rain". 

 

Today my assignment is Lilia Vu and Lauren Hartlage. I won't depart the compound without 10 radio checks😛

I was out there too.  Groups were playing in 5:15.  Pins were easy.  Fairways were firm.  Many were hitting 300 yards on 18 downhill.  If they move the pins closer to the edges, scores will go up and rounds will take 6 hours.
