Titleist Pro V1x equivalent

Recommended Posts

I am not a brand loyalist so looking for any equivalent performer similar to Pro V1x at a lower price point.

Is there any specific premium ball that stands out? Thanks in advance.

MTB-X or Maxfli Tour X would be likely contenders. Their feel is different. For me, the Snell is a bit longer, the Maxfli might have better inherent dispersion.

I find the Maxfli Tour X to be a solid comp at a bargain of a price, $105 from DSG/GG for 4 dozen. I've not tested enough side by side or even played a significant amount the past 2 seasons, but I've gone from the V1x to the Tour X without noticing much difference.

MTBX is a very solid golf ball. Definitely very comparable to prov1x. I’d say it’s the best value if you want a prov1x.

is saving $4 really that big a deal when you are a golfer? Just curious what is driving this as Titleist is the best ball pout there from a quality standpoint....

MTB-X would be very close.  It's one of my gamer balls I like to use during the summer and fall when it's hot and dry here and the greens don't hold well.

Good point. It's not even a gallon of gas at this point.

If you're gonna spend 44$ for ProV1 likeness, may as well just spend 49$ for the real thing.

With that said, I'm curious about where this thread goes.

Any love for the Taylor Made Tour response?

Not sure where you got your numbers from but...

I'm seeing a $15 difference between the ProV1X ($50/doz) and Snell MTB-X ($35/doz). Multiply that by number of doz you'll use in a season and it could pay for a round or 2.  4 doz ProV1's will run you $200 vs 4 doz MaxFli Tour X @ $105.

I was wondering where $4 came from as well

To answer your actual question, a few that stand out that should be pretty similar to Prov1x:

Snell MTBx ($30-$35 a dozen). Very good ball

Srixon Z Star XV and Z Star Diamond (both usually go on sale 2-3 times a year and can be had for about $30 a dozen)

You could also try to load up when Titleist does their buy 3 get 1 free deal each year.

MaxFli Tour is a really strong ball. Lot of testing out on the web about it's performance and quality in comparison to top tier balls.

TXG typically does full testing on different tiers of balls. I think they recently did one on the "x" balls from various brands and also one on DTC vs Big name brands. Eye opening.

Isn’t the tp5x the low spinning ball and the pro v1x the higher spinning ball for each company? I’d have thought the tp5 would have been closer to the pro v1x.

cool. Thanks for letting me know. I thought they were the same because they both had X at the end.

Titleist flip flopped each balls characteristics a year or two ago. The x used to be lower spin now its high spin and firmer.

Once upon time I think that was the case and would certainly be the most intelligent thing to do, but the pro v1x became the higher launching and higher spinning ball a couple of generations ago whilst other brands left their X as the lower spinning version.

MTB-X and Maxfli Tour are the closest you're gonna get in performance.

You have to hit multiple balls to find the one that suits you......only YOUR swing can dictate what works for you...no robot testing, not TXG testing....only YOUR swing.....dont chince out on the ball to save a few bucks....unless you are a guy who loses 5-7 dzn a year.......in that case, play the cheapest ball you can find and work on your swing mechanics.

if anyone is losing 4 dzn balls a season, id go with the cheapest ball I could find......no $50 ball is worth losing 50 of them a year... but id go with a maxfli at that point

Pardon my ignorance but what is TXG testing?

You don't have to lose a ball to no longer put it in regular play.  A few scuffs or cutmarks may retire it into the shag bag or to your local First Tee program.  That and there are folks out there who play A TON more golf than you or I.  I can easily see someone going thru 4 dozen balls a year depending on goals, line of work/industry or frequency of play.

For someone like myself, if 1 ball was either lost/retired a round, playing once a week = 52 balls.  That's over 4 dozen a year.  There are weeks where I lost or retired none, and there are weeks where I've lost/retired 4+.  🙂

Well said. Not quite sure where @tsecor was coming from with that take unless he's assuming someone is only playing a few rounds a year...

I'm a decent player who plays probably 50-75 rounds a year, almost never lose a ball, and I rarely finish the round with the same ball I started with. All it takes is a crisp bunker shot or an accidental bounce of the cart path to damage/scuff a ball beyond the point of keeping it in play.

I play 50+ rounds a year as well and never go through 4+ dzn......thats where it came from....some people see a tiny scuff and discard....thats up to you....i would think if you losing and discarding 4 dzn balls a year, most of that is due to losing them.....if thats the case, i would play a cheaper ball to save nore money for gas...;)
