Depends how many big name players do. There’s only so many people tune in for and you need the majority of them.

I believe that 60 years ago fans tuned in to watch Arnold Palmer, and 20 years ago people did the same for Tiger Woods, but other than that no particular players have compelled people to watch golf on television. I think golf fans like to watch the tournaments but don't much care about particular name players. The truth is every man with a Tour card is a great player capable of shooting 65 anytime. And for every Koepka or DJ or Rahm there are high school and college age players coming up to take their place.

Man, imagine if other sports changed their format based on the players just wanting to "have fun". I'd imagine you'd "have more fun" playing flag football than tackle football, but good luck getting people to watch.

Funny you mention that!  The NFL either just hired, or is currently hiring a head of flag football operations and the Pro Bowl was just here in Orlando and it was flag football.  The NBA stopped playing defense because the players don't want to exert energy on both sides of the ball.

I dont know about palmer, but it was definately true for Tiger...If you asked non-golfers atleast 9/10 would know who Tiger is. If you asked non-golfers who Jon Rahm is it would be below 1/10. as a player you build marketing value on the PGAT and you lose it on LIV. How did LIV work out for Piot? He took a few million, after taxes and management cut it in half. Now what? Range Pro, Journeyman around Asia

If there is no PIF deal, I would not be surprised to see Rahm shock the golf world by jumping back to the PGA Tour in a few years.  He doesn't strike me as the kind of person to wallow in misery and these ESPN comments are very troubling if I am a LIV executive.  His PGA Tour career would have likely generated hundreds of millions of dollars in net worth.  I would argue that his lifestyle on the PGA Tour wouldn't be that different than LIV from a spending standpoint, the only difference is what sits in the bank.  When he says he has no regret, it's obvious he does - and after only three months

Another streaming service???  $45-$50 per month????  This thing will be a flop.

Younger demo has no use for “cable”

You’ll get 18-Millennial age sports fans who don’t get cable, but get this bundled into another streaming service (Hulu etc) or standalone

This is just an app that aggregates sports content.

ESPN is one of the main reasons even an old guy like myself keeps cable.

Otherwise what you get from cable? Talking heads, emiril commercials, and Predator and Harry Potter 24/7 🤣

Here's what I don't quite understand.

Why should any liv defector be allowed to play a PGAT event seemingly of their choosing when a PGAT guy isn't allowed to play in a liv exhibition?

All depends on who has the leverage. LIV needs sponsors and revenue and OWGR points. The PGA Tour needs to keep from losing its stars.

He and his team made a bet that a PGA/PIF deal would happen (unified golf) and took the money.   His leaving also puts pressure on the PGA to get the deal done because he is the biggest blow to the PGA yet in terms of talent drain. Watch out if that plan doesn't play out - the SSG investment certainly complicates matters

With final round cancelled at Pebble I found the LIV final round on the CW in Canada.

Watched it, enjoyed it.

Definitely some things I like with the coverage. Constant ticker/leaderboard and more golf shots. I got to watch a solid playoff and see some of the guys I used to watch.

The team aspect just does nothing for me at all. I cant name a single guy on any team outside of Rahm right now but it cratched my golf itch for a day.

Huh, his leaving is all on Monahan? He is a big boy he made his own decision

Read the quote. Rahm, stated he made his decision based on whats best for his family and setting them up for the future..

What man wouldn't take the money in order to secure generational wealth for his family?

Might I suggest Foghorn Leghorn walking as the course announcer?  Golf REALLY louder.
