What made you get a 7 wood?

This spot in my bag is the least used. I play driver, 5 wood lofted at 16.5, then transition into a 20* utility iron. I’ve tried a hybrid as well for the 20/21* slot and don’t get along.

I hit the utility fine but I’m thinking a 7 wood would be easier to hit.

What sold you on the 7 wood and what weight shaft are you using?  Anyone use it for tee shots on long par 3’s or tight par 4’s?

I went with a 7 wood this year as I found my 18° utility iron was pretty one dimensional, great off the tee, useless out of the rough, and less reliable out of the fairway compared to a wood. Went with a PXG 0341X proto 21° 7 wood with a 70g HZRDUS smoke black RDX 6.5 (also got a 18° 5 wood of the same model with the same shaft) I use it a bunch off the tee for shorter and tighter par4's as it's a reliable 230+ off the tee.

It's truly magical when struck well. Going for par5's in two is now filled with confidence instead of doubt. Nothing quite like hitting something off the turf from 225 yards out, have a towering flight and having it stick like a dart.

Great thoughts. When I pure my driving iron it’s a thing of beauty. But like you said it really takes a dedicated swing out of the most perfect of lies for that to happen.

I'm likely going to get one as my 3w and 5w are getting a bit long and think I'll have a gap between them and my 4 iron. I might mess around with a hybrid but haven't liked them so far. Maybe a driving iron too but we'll see. I like just having to learn how to hit woods and irons vs throwing more variations in there as much as possible.

I still have trouble with the 220-225 distance. I used the same 7 wood cut down to a 3 iron length, but it wasnt perfect. I cannot hit a hybrid straight or high, but found a couple that I do now. I have a rotation of 2 hybrids and a new"er" 7 wood that go in and out depending on how I'm hitting the club. 7 wood will get it high but I struggle with consistancy in all of the options for that distance

I got a 7 wood because I can't hit a utility or a 3 iron any more. Perfect for a 68 year old 7 handicapper.

Island greens from that required distance. For whatever reason[besides my swing] a low & left shot appears more than my scorecard needs.....low & left to an island green = dbl bogey

7 wood provides consistent carry yardage

I use the 7 wood and 4 utility iron.

7 is a bit longer, higher and a more versatile with regard to lies.

4 is a little more workable and easier to keep down if needed.

Hit it higher, lands softer into long Par 3's and Par 4's without the occasional left miss with a hybrid.

My other 2 clubs are 16.5 degree (4 wood) and 25 degrees.

So a 21 degree 7 wood fits nicely between those.

I really love my 16.5 Titleist TS2 so I went for the 21 degree as well. Tensei CK 70 X shaft.

I'm just not a big fan of hybrids. These Titleist woods for me are super easy to hit.

Almost the same shaft as the one in my 7w. Really like it, as well. Before I had a fancy Quadra Fire Express RB65SX. I hit some bombs with it, but had occasional balloon balls, and also a tendency to hook. Since putting the Tensei CK 70TX in there, I've got a much better ball flight, and far better consistency. The hooks have gone.

The head is an original V-steel 7w, so I think the shaft is worth way more than the head, but as a combination, it's priceless🤣

Love my 4w and eventually came to terms with the fact that I can't hit a hybrid or 2i. Plus all the 7w threads on here.

I use a shaft 10g heavier than my 4w and while I've used the club on a couple par 3s it's mostly a fairway club for me.

I just ordered one. For me it's that I want forgiveness but can't seem to hit any hybrid accurately with any consistency. I'm hoping a 4W/7W set-up will give me that, and then I'll also have room for a secondary tee club (think it'll just be my driving iron but I want to test that new TSR2+ 13 degree wood as well).

Put one in the bag this year after a 3-4 year stint with driving irons/utilities. My weekly league course has 3 somewhat reachable par 5s that require a high and soft landing from 220-240 out. I rarely could get the driving irons there and hold the greens. 7 wood is just so easy. I've left myself so many eagle opportunities (yet still haven't accomplished one). I will say, I hated it off the tee at first but recently just been hitting it with no tee off the box and it's been a lot better. But, into the wind, it gets scary.

I've tried a 7 wood and hybrids but find all of the benefits (easier launch/forgiveness) also make them less desirable for me.  Forgiveness on a bad swing just means further offline and dropped shots.  I've been playing a utility iron instead and find my scores have gotten better.  A bad swing with a utility iron still stays in play...usually.

Driver is 9* or 10.5 depending one what is loving me at time of play...Cobra or Rogue.  Next club is 15* 21* Fairways and then 23*HY -->5i on.  The 21* and HY23* might be a little close in gapping but give me different options and confidence on any particular hole or situation.  Lately I have been hitting the hybrid on shorter 200yrds, hit it nice and easy, flies great and hits well over the trouble hazard areas.  The 21*fy lets me unleash with limited risk.  Recently switched out my TS2's for Srixon ZX.   I am also going to switch out TS2 HY w/ ZX HY.  Mentally, I like going with a fixed hosel to take out the mental part of the game with adjustable hosel.   Fairways will be built with Red Ventus 7S and HY w/ Ventus Blue HY.

I made the transition to 7 wood this season, I never was fitted but found a good deal on a 917 and it has a Tour Green 85tx shaft. Up to last year, I had played driving irons/hybrid but never got along with the looks of hybrids and realized the driving iron was never that versatile (good off the tee usually, ok from the fairway, rough was usually a no go). Started my transition to more lofted woods by trying a 5 wood last season, more forgiveness and more versatile (plus Tiger has a 5 wood so why shouldn't I). This year I decided to try a 7 wood because I thought the yardage would suit my home course better (shorter with a lot of water). It has turned into one of my favorite clubs and I use it off the tee a lot and it is a great club into par 5's.  When I play longer courses, I now have the ability to rotate between 3,5, and 7 woods depending on the course layout. It is a club that is more versatile and confidence inspiring for me than a driving iron or hybrid ever were. Like others have said, it is just easier with a 7 wood.
