I just wanted to give a heads up to the fellow Canadians...but I do not know how many know this, but going right back to the first LIV event and then every subsequent one thereafter, rounds 2 and 3 are on regular tv here in Canada...if you get the channel CHCH.

I got to watch a lot of the 1st round today and I came away with the impression that so far that was the best overall round in LIV Golf's brief history.  The play of the field and the intrigue at the top of leaderboard take the day but there were a lot of overall net positives.  The venue itself broadcasts fantastically on TV, I'd love to hear from someone that got to take in the action in person or has played The Int'l Club.  The par 3s to me were the highlight of the course with the different lengths, greens complexes, and elevation changes.  Much better than the uninteresting, throwaway 235+ yard par 3s we saw on most other tracks that host pro golf events.  Feherty has really rounded out the commentary team and the broadcast itself has come a long way since the first go at Centurion.  The crowd, while not overly large, seemed engaged, youthful, and energetic. The players seemed to enjoy themselves and embrace the vibe.  

 

I know the format of shotgun starts and 54 holes can be like nails on a chalkboard to the purists but I think even if they watched today objectively and put their biases aside that they would have come away entertained.  I've said it before in another thread and I'll say it again.  Would I want to only watch golf in LIV format going forward?  No.  But I do think it's great that they offer a product different than the traditional tours which over the span of a season get monotonous and the lesser events with no star power, downright boring.

ESPN app now has LIV live leaderboard except it's missing the teams, I'm sure they'll work on that. 
LIV players allowed to wear shorts starting today. 
Phil is 52 and playing against players half his age. He was killing it on the seniors tour, so I will give him a pass.

Amusing moment - Phil on a par 3 pushes one left,  I mean WAY left. Hits a tree halfway go hole. We all have bad shots, even pros. I get that. But then Feherty chimes in, “There’s one you don’t see too often”. Miss him on the PGAT broadcasts. 

My favorite was when Feherty said, "18 is such a beautiful closing hole."  Sorry to remind you David but it's only a closing hole for one group.

Meh. Not sure I felt the same. It stuck me that they were even more boorish and irritating than the noisy drunks who show up for the Waste Management. I think the start-up feeling of LIV has empowered them to think they're out there watching their mates (their 'mates' being the pro golfers) and I just felt the fan interaction was a bit OTT and cringe!

 

I definitely think the overall LIV package was markedly improved on previous tournaments, helped certainly by the signing of better players, but it still struggled to hold my interest like a big tournament does.

I’m I the only one that finds it funny and counterproductive for Liv, that rule… can’t hide guys with awful game on the weekends… “here’s our leaderboard with Steve coming in, 47th at +53 with 3 holes to go just ahead of Phil that finally shot a under50 back nine today!”

I’m loving the unfiltered commentary by the players. That F bomb was so smooth and casual when Cam was explaining  his broken wedge to DJ it made me think he was one of the boys. Also loved Feherty and the high level of play. Liked how the guys were taking on pins instead of playing it safe because they have 18 less holes to score on too.

I noticed the LIV results were on the FS1 ticker during the football game last night as well.

Watching this event reminds of when the PBA Tour brought team bowling to the telecasts.  Tried to play up the whole team aspect when it’s normally an individual sport.  Had a non-bowler as a course lane interviewer as obvious eye-candy but was horrible at interviews (Troy is gorgeous but horrible as an on course commentator).  And the whole excitement seemed forced.

 

I admit the golf is decent but I’m struggling keeping interest as there’s nothing “on the line”.  It just feels like a 3 day exhibition.

He's a team captain, but is recovering from knee surgery, so he isn't playing.  So he's out walking the course with a microphone.

I really like all the camera coverage they have. Lots of coverage of golf swings.  I also like the worm coverage for the putting - you can actually see the arc in some of their putting strokes.
