Ping Blueprint Forged S

A few weeks ago I hit the 7 iron fitting head, and shared my experience that I was somewhat underwhelmed (coming from ping s56 irons).

well I’m here to share that I was able to hit these off grass with premium balls, and it was a much more pleasant experience!

I had a change of heart and placed my order -  BPS 4-PW with KBS $ Taper 125.

gotta hit them outside. It was night and day for me. Excited to get them in the bag for the season. Also have a set of Modus 120X and C Taper 125 if the $ Tapers act up, lol.

Ok, here are the result regarding spin.  Using brand-new Callaway practice/range balls.  Ran all 4 clubs 7-W) from each set 2x, averaged them out per session, then averaged the two sessions together, deleted the “lowest spinning” mid-hit on each (my miss is slight toe)

i230

w - 7450

9 - 8857

8 - 7367

7 - 6652

BP-S

w - 9350

9 - 9034

8 - 8298

7 - 7713

The BP-S was by far the most consistent, where’s the i230 mishits are very low-spinning, even on good strikes.  This has been an issue over the past 12 months with long-misses.

Very happy I made the change here.

Appreciate you putting this comparison together. This is the main reason I was leaning towards BP-S, the consistency in spin and carry was like nothing else when I tested off mats. Currently gaming ZX5s, which don’t generate a great deal of spin to begin with but when you hit a low spin miss, I’m flying the green.

Thanks again. Looking forward to my fitting on Monday at Ping Canada.

I have not, Fuji’s lack of response or support for all the failures people have experienced with the ventus shafts have led me to having no interest in Fuji products. I replaced a set of i59s with MMTs with the BPS.  I really liked the MMTs, but when I tried the Dart Vs I had to give them a go.  The MMTs to me are super smooth and have more of a linear released to them.  The Dart Vs have a nice little kick at the bottom.  Both great shafts that perform really well for me.

Indeed…I left those off since even the S 3 iron punches above my weight class. Maybe I could handle the S in 7-PW?!?

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, but they are surprisingly friendly to hit and I have winter rust. Try them!

Has anyone tried adjusting lie angles on the blueprint s? Just want to see if it bends pretty easily or if it’s gonna be tough to adjust these like the titleist t100 was. Thanks!

I went to have mine bent strong after they were sent in the wrong spec.  The shop had a hard time moving them even a degree. I know it is not the same as what you are asking, but they are as soft as one would think.

Finally have a few rounds off real grass with these and so far I have to say that they are everything I hoped for. As a fellow S55 user, these are the replacements that I've been waiting for from PING. Just stupid easy to hit, feel fantastic, and accurate as hell. Well done PING!

that's great to hear bubba! I figured no S55 user would be disappointed by this new "S" iron.

I'm getting very excited about moving on from S55 too, and that scenario is coming soon. this time they'll be quite a few possible shaft changes to first consider. been a lot of years since the S55 went in the bag, and I ain't gotten any younger. 🤣

Does anyone know if the power spec option adds noticeable offset vs the standard loft? I know it’s 2 deg stronger which usually adds a good amount of offset but spoke to someone at ping that said it’s not very noticeable the way they do it. Would like to get some feedback from you guys

I’m sure it does a tiny bit, here’s my 7 iron power spec to give you an idea.

Finally went for my fitting at Ping Canada HQ after testing these a few times against a bunch of over players and players distance irons at a local store. The fitter admitted he thought I would be fit in the i230 based on our discussion and pre-assessment. But going through the fitting process the BPS was the clear winner, these are surprisingly easy to hit and consistent.

Ended up being fit into the BPS DG 120 S300, and at the end of the day the 4i and 5i it was up to me if I wanted to go into a combo set. Oddly enough I hit the 4i better in the BPS and and 5i better with the i230 (likely because I just spent an hour and a bit straight hitting 7i).

I ended up with the BPS 4i-PW, and will see how I get on with the long irons, possibly order a couple of i230’s (4-5i) if I’m struggling on course.

Awesome, any differences numbers wise or mainly just feel and the look?

It’s interesting how many people in this thread talk about power spec. These irons seem faster ball speed wise than irons 3-5 years ago and the lofts aren’t weak as standard . Why are so many people focused on nuking their irons , seems kinda contrary with better players irons. If you want to hit irons far you get some 790s . These are about precision

For me it was launch window. In power spec for this set we are only talking .5-1.5 degree stronger. So 3-7 yards but for me my launch fell into a perfect window where I want it. I’d hardly call it nuking it’s not like power spec goes 25 yards further.  I went power spec for precision not for yardage. In college my Daiwa Monodyne blades went the same distance as I hit it today 35 years later. My PW was 51* then. Funny thing is I hit the BPS on the same flight I did those and basically every set of irons I’ve played has been the same. That’s intentional on my part. I’m too dumb to learn new yardages and ball flights. I’m smart enough though to know 790’s don’t work for me in anyway.  If I wanted 790’s I would have bought them as would anyone else on the forum.

For me there was a pretty big difference in numbers, I presume it was from the efficiency of the strike. I was just able to get more consistent strikes with the BPS and ended up being a pretty big difference in ball speed and carry.

With the same shaft and roughly the same club head speed the main differences for me:

- BPS launched 1 deg lower

- BPS carried 10yds further, with spin being comparable

- BPS ball speed was 5mph faster

- BPS carry std. dev. was less than 2yds

This was done on Trackman with 20yds of ball flight indoors at Ping’s facility. When I compared the two on a GC Quad at my local store, the spin was a bit higher on the BPS than the i230 and there was a bit less of a gap in carry but the carry distance consistency was still much better with the BPS.

It’s about launch.

I currently play a set of musclebacks with 3 degrees more loft on the 7 iron vs the stock bps, yet I hit the musclebacks within 5 yards of the bps with roughly the same club delivery dynamics.

the differences is launch and ballspeed.  The bps come out a little higher, with more speed, and apex about 10-15 higher.  The muscle backs flight lower with less ball speed.
