Higher launching, forgiving, drivers of yore..

Not playing as much, or practicing. Been playing Titleist drivers forever, looking for something from another manufacturer that will be forgiving and a little higher launching.

 

Prefer suggestions for older clubs, current driver is a TSI2 or 905r...

Why would you want an older one? Get a 430 max. Pretty high launching, extremely forgiving and not crazy high spin.

Fair enough, as above any ping G series to fit your budget would be a good place to start. Prob could get a g425 max for sub 200

Define cheap.... i had good sucess with my $30 callaway Diablo Octane until my swing speeds broke 100mph and the r flex wasnt enough any more... now in essentially an x flex (s flex matrix ozik white tie 7x3 tipped an inch) in a $40 big bertha fusion head off fb marketplace...

G425 MAX is a good one.  SIM 2 MAX is also a another underrated forgiving head you can get on the cheap.

For less than $100 you can find a Cobra Speed series driver that will launch moon shots and probably have a  Graphite Design YS or Aldila shaft on it.

Ping G400 Max might be the most forgiving driver ever made….

Mizuno STZ or STX (draw biased). Great sound and feel and probably the cheapest modern driver you’ll find.

 

Then there is Callaway Pre-Owned. Any max model should fit the bill.

You want cheap? All my stuff is cheap...LOL everything but the driver, 5 hybrid, and 52,56, and 60 wedges were bought from thrift stores... most expensive club (aside from driver ) is an oddessey 3 ball srt that i paid $20 for, and put a $30 superstroke pistol gt 2.0 on... everything else was $5 or less a club... callaway x series n415 irons, taylormade r9 3 and 5 woods, callaway Razr 3 hybrid, Vokey Sm4 oilcan...

I remember my Adams Speedline F11 from years past was quite forgiving. No balancing options or adjustments; just the no fuss driver from ages past. 😄

You can get a Mizuno ST-Z 220 for less than a G400 Max right now, and they are every bit as forgiving.

 

If you want to save even more money, the Ping G30 is a great driver.

If you want to try real cheap find a Cleveland Launcher xl. They were really high launching and super-forgiving.

I see his $30 and raise to a $9.90 Callaway Big Bertha Warbird with a steel Memphis 10 shaft and a $8.75 Steelhead III 5W with a steel shaft as well. Been riding these thrift value clubs for a couple of weeks and loving life. The gripmaster leather grips I put on them cost twice what the clubs cost me😂

I love them, especially the sound of the Steelhead! They just work really, really well for me. The cost is a huge bonus that I find to be hysterical.

Ping G10 got up in a hurry for me; a real missle launcher.  I also fondly remember the Taylor Made R7 being really easy to launch very quickly back when I had it around 2006-2008

SIM2 Max is pretty forgiving and can be gotten relatively cheap (possibly from the WTB/WTS section of this forum, which is where I got mine for a very palatable price over a year ago!)

Here's an example of a modern forgiving driver on a budget that I just completed:

 

- Used Mizuno ST-Z 220 head: $100

- Lin-Q Purple shaft: $50

- adapter tip and grip: ~$20

 

So all in, about ~$170 for very forgiving and modern driver, with a modern high performance shaft.

Still poking around on these suggestions.

 

Looks like the Ping Max versions are draw biased. My miss is already a nasty hook, so I stay away from any draw bias.

From 2010. Can be found on the Bay for under 100. 

 

Studies showed it affected flight by about 5 yards to the draw side.
