Tube meat? Never heard that one. Tube steak is the preferred term.

Don't recall having a memorable tube steak, but the tacos at Craig's Porch at Sand Valley are top notch, and cheap to boot.

Story I heard(keeping in mind that this and a dollar still won't buy you starbucks), that the french originally called the "audoges"  (O-duh-je), but the English folk couldn't pronounce it so hot dog came about.

There could be truth to that, it could be an urban legend.  I just know I heard that back in the day.

He neglected to tell me how big it was and when I saw him walking out with it I couldn't believe the size as it was huge! It was delicious but I couldn't even get close to eating the whole thing and had to take it back to our room.

Fixed it for you.

What is their dog like?

Nothing overly special. Brioche bun, all beef dog. Pickle speared on top with your choice of toppings. I just remember them being so good.

I’ve had more than my fair share of dogs (glizzy’s or meat missiles if you prefer)

over the course of my golfing days. I’ve had incredibly good ones, and plenty of one bite and trash it style too. I think we can all agree that a really good hot dog hits the spot the way few other foods can. And few things are more objectionable than a bad hot dog.

I’ll be sure to pay more mind to this topic in the future to steer my fellow compatriots in the right direction. But a few good ones of note recently- Applecross CC in Downingtown, at the shack at the turn. Dauphin Highlands in Harrisburg in the bar.

Side note, my 4 year old got me a golf cart hot dog holder that attaches to my golf bag for easy travel. If you think you’re deep in the dog game and don’t have one of these I suggest you step it up! 😂

  • 2bGood changed the title to Best hot dog you have had at a golf course -(*** ONLY POLITICS ***)
  • 2 weeks later...

Just recently, Evansville (IN) CC.

All beef dog on a toasted bun.  You know, when they throw a pat of butter on the grill and toast the bun briefly for that bit-o-crunch in each bite.  Fortunately we played 27 holes so I enjoyed one at both turns.

As someone else stated above, there's something about a good dog on the course.

Mustard, relish and onion, please... in that order.

I have been doing my research and apparently the first ones were in Chicago where the Germans made sausages from all the meat off cuts. The sausages of course looked like Daschunds hence Hot Dogs. Makes sense. Will check out Malnati’s on next years trip.

But they've stopped having sauerkraut, at least around here.

A good dog needs sauerkraut. Onions too. Pickle relish. Mustard. None of that red stuff. Probably a cardiologist.

Isle 13 - you are welcome

Not exactly a course dog…but every year our chamber puts on a scramble and a local store provides “food”….at the turn we get “Barbee Dogs”. A plain Jane Ballpark Frank Hot Dog and Pulled Pork BBQ  on top. Always hits the spot.

Since this is open to politics now ...

I hate the liberals because they say my frankfurter has to be made of an equal portion of all animals ...

I hate the conservatives because they say my bun has to be white ...

I'm about out if the hot dog business.
