The American Express 2024

The third event of the 2024 PGA Tour season is upon us as the Tour returns to California for the American Express. Split over three courses, birdies and eagles will be the order of the day for anyone that wants to stand a chance of winning come the end of the week. Getting the trophy will be no easy task. Whilst this years winner will not need to deal with the most recent winner (Jon Rahm), they will have world number 1 Scottie Scheffler and a stout field field to contend with. Amongst the interesting storylines heading into the week and continuing on from last weeks comebacks of Gary Woodland and Will Zalatoris, this week Daniel Berger returns to action for the first time since the 2022 US Open. He was world number 25 when he stepped away, he returns as 634. It would seem doubtful that he expects too much from his week whereas, the likes of Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark will be expecting a lot more.

Pebble Beach did. No MPCC this year. Just PB and Spyglass.

This event just doesn’t do it for me. It’s target golf and you basically need to shoot 66/67 everyday to have a chance

Can we put to bed the notion and talking point that non elevated signature event will become Korn Ferry type tournaments with none of the top players playing🙂🙂.

 

Besides, golf tournaments have never concentrated on the  players not playing. A great tournament will continue to carry on.

I like whoever is a recovering drug and/or alcohol addict or had someone close in their life pass away recently. Maybe even a pet as Matt McConaughey suggests in the film "Two For the Money". Any suggestions?

I heard as a teen Justin Thomas once had to go almost two weeks with the old iPhone model after the new model dropped. Does that count? If so, I’ll take him 😊

Newlyweds - they think they know everything about life.   

 

Three years later she's giving him a hard time for playing too much golf and the finger-pointing starts.  Next thing you know she's criticizing him for his grocery store antics (that she once thought amusing) such as playing celery arms guy, carrying two melons at chest level or acting like he's talking on a banana phone.  From there it goes downhill fast.

Weekend weather here in SoCal looking dicey. Current forecast in La Quinta shows no rain on Saturday but 35% chance on Sunday--but we'll see as my local forecast (<100 mi West of there) is showing rain both 60% chance Saturday in the afternoon-evening and 60% chance for pretty much all day Sunday. 

 

So it remains to be seen how it'll end up there... Forecasts here can be a little questionable 5 days out, so it could get better or worse over there.

Does it matter what I look for is a competitive tourney I Dont want someone sitting on 4-5 shot lead and cruising to victory. As long as its competitive I’m fine with scoring or lack thereof

Might have a chance to go to a round on Thursday.  Is there a particular course that would be better suited for this?  Was thinking stadium course but wasn’t sure.

Stadium is the best one, but Nicklaus is right next to it. La Quinta is off site

I think the Stadium course is a good option in Palm Springs/Desert if we're looking at a venue that can host a PGA Tour event, however for casual golf there are better options.

Do they change which course holds the final round each year? I feel like the used to feature the course that runs right along the mountains more in previous years. Sorry, I don't know which course is which so take it easy on me....

No,  it's always the Stadium course.

The PGA West Stadium course has been the host and final round course since 2016.
