Shoes for Walkers

Recommended Posts

I just retired and I bought a MGI Electric trolley. Going to start walking most of my rounds. I have a pair of True Links Knit II shoes I really like but just wondered what other nice shoes for walking I should be considering?

The TRUE Lux Hybrids offer much more comfort and support than any of the "knit" series and are much more comfortable.  I find the fully knit cuff on the "knit" models difficult to put on as opposed to the Lux Hybrid which has a semi-attached tongue.

These and the FS-01 are all I wear.

... Hey amigo, shoes are pretty personal but I walk with my MGi ZIP 4 to 5 times a week and I have found Ecco Bioms to be the best all around golf shoe. Not cushy like some athletic golf shoes nor stiff like some classic golf shoes but a good combination of both. The best compliment I can give them is I just don't notice them at all. Great support for walking and swinging, they last longer than any golf shoes I have owned and right now they are an insane bargain, so I picked up a couple of extra pairs. $170 for $85 was too good to pass up. Anything is really walkable as long as it's comfortable for you, some guys can walk in FJ Premiers and some guys can only use them in carts.

I walked a bunch of rounds last year in my Cuater Ringers without issues at all, gonna see if my current pair of Cuater Legends will make it as more of a walking shoe.

I agree with those that said just about any shoe is good for walking as long as it fits you best.  For the longest time, my favorite shoe was the previous models of the Adidas Tour 360s, but after the most recent release of the Adidas Tour shoe.  I have walked in FJ Premieres, Adidas AG21, some Payntrs, and they've all been fine.

The spiked Premiere Fields and Packards are both fine with the right insole because the stock one wasn't very good for me.

Just find a shoe you like and fits fine, and you should be good to go.  I prefer the firmer feel of the Premiere line, but if you want something more minimalist or running type shoe, there's plenty of shoe options out there.

I walk for pretty much all rounds, here are a few of my favorites

Adidas Ultraboost - crazy comfortable. The sole is very flexible (but soft like a pillow) and doesn't have much support, but if you're a walker and have good foot strength then you probably don't need it. Breaths really well and great for hot days

True Linkswear Lux Hybrid - probably my favorite. A little more support through the sole. Waterproof is a nice bonus

Ecco C4- much stiffer sole but still comfortable. Great for someone who doesn't walk as much and needs more support for their feet. Also waterproof.

Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tour - stiffer sole but good traction. Similar to running shoes

Nike Jordan ADG 4- huge surprise, really comfortable and great traction. The tongue isn't great and slides but right up there with the True Lux Hybrid as my favorites.

Footjoy Hyperflex - ... don't love them. Sole feels hard and thin and can feel the spikes creating pressure on my feet. Wouldn't buy again.

Edit to add - really curious about Payntrs if anyone has tried them. Ordered a pair in standard width that felt too narrow but would like to try again, just can't find them anywhere to try on. They charged shipped to and back for returns so don't want to eat that to find out they still won't fit.

I have the Payntrs and like them a lot.  Good traction and comfortable.  Fit like a cross trainer on my feet, so very stable.  I had to go up 1/2 size for them to fit right in the standard width.  I normally wear a size 11 in Adidas, and a 10.5 M in FJ.  I don't know if this helps you any or not.

Yes, I'm an 11.5 for the Payntrs.  They fit fine right out of the box and no issues on the range walking in them first time out.

@jah7838 thank you, I'll definitely give them another go at some point. Although the last thing I need right now is another pair of golf shoes. I just picked up two pairs of True Lux Hybrid  and a pair of Ecco Biom C4 with their 40-50% sales

I like the Ecco Biom H4. Goretex keeps my feet dry, and the shoes have good support. Good fit in the heel, and, for me, comfortable width across the toes. Don’t overlook quality socks. I wear Kentwool, and never had any problems.

True on the socks! I wear Bombas. Great socks.

It's tough to advise because everyone's dogs need something different.

Trues seem like they should be the answer, but I can't do the zero drop and the moccasin type shoe doesn't give me enough support.  Causes me all kinds of issues, but they work for a lot of people!

Have had the best luck also with the Ecco Biom series, and surprisingly, the Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tour.  That was a nice surprise because Nikes usually don't work for me, but these are easy to find for about $60, in several colors, are lightweight for hoofing 18, and give me plenty of support.

It really is personal.  I walk every round I possibly can in my Tour Alphas.  They are comfortable as heck to me.

Shoe technology has gotten so good these days, spiked vs spikeless is not really a consideration for comfort.  I always laugh when people say they won't ever wear metal spikes again because the shoes were so uncomfortable, as if shoes with metal spikes would not have changed in 30 years.

But yes, what fits you best is the best shoe.
