I'd rather watch a guy fighting for his first win against a guy whos been off tour with serious injuries for 3 years against a guy who was a bouncer two years ago. Those stories interest me. Watching one guy with a 9 figure bank account play another guy with a 9 figure bank account play a bunch of other guys with high 8 figure bank accounts and they are just out there playing for even more money - that, as it turns out, holds zero interest for me.

Ya and there’s plenty “favorite” guys to root for and new guys who will play great and become favorites

Lets face it

Since Tiger 1.0 is there anyone who you just gotta see?

No

There’s just guys who are in the top 20 and it’s worth watching if a couple/few are in the hunt or even if it’s a new guy who’s going to possibly win

The “stars” of today still choke leads on Sunday and blow up, there’s nobody who dominates and is anyone to get all pumped up for.

Except of course, Sahiiiiith!!

In the not so distant past Scottie Scheffler had done nothing on Tour.

Some of these tournies feel a little more hollow. Rahm was a significant loss. At least we'll see him in the majors.

LOL!..... I'm so weird. Never once have I ever tuned in to the PGAT telecast just to see Jon Rahm.

Only player that would slightly apply to is 2019 Tiger. At least he'll be at the 2024 Masters.🤣

I just like seeing the very best compete against each other as often as possible. I couldn't imagine a world where watching golf in the 90s/early 2000s and not ever seeing Phil or Duval or Els at a tournament trying to topple Tiger. Now you have one of the best players in the world and fiery competitor that we will only see 4 tournaments a year against all of the other very best. You can throw koepka in there but his commitment to regular PGA tournaments was lacking anyways.

So if you watch a PGAT event and someone asks what you watched over the weekend, you’ll say what, the PGAT show? I always say “golf”. Am I doing it wrong??

You do you boo.
when guys ask me on the practice green “did you see XXXX win the Xxxx?”

I just say I don’t watch TV golf. But hey I’ve got rabbit ears too.

Golf is a weird game. Even if the best is in the same tournament (which rarely happens)

Most don't play well at the same time.

Agree with @juliette91.

Since terrorists LIV and their dirty money entered the picture, PGA leadership and youth on tour have taken a turn for the worst.  I haven't quit watching, but it's close.

It's NOT age-driven either; using that is an uneducated argument.  Most of my CC golf friends and acquaintances (40-70yrs) are doing much the same.  These are men and women that used to volunteer to work PGA tournaments every year when the PGA came to town, but no more.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-08/amazon-microsoft-boosting-saudi-offices-amid-state-pressure

I get what you’re saying but the PIF money is so intertwined with sports and the global economy that I’ve stopped caring about it. PIF just partnered with ATP, own soccer teams, and are invested in f1

I don't mind watching the young unknowns duke it out.  I enjoy the new talent and I think the field depth on the PGAT is still pretty strong.  The thing that frustrates me the most about watching golf now is the number of commercial breaks.  I realize they have to have the revenue to provide the perks.  It's just annoying to only see about 20 minutes of golf per hour.

I've been close to some tour players, the game of golf and tournament golf course management for many years.   It's not as simple as some people make it sound.

The PGA Tour is American, and should remain so; NOT become a world tour, feeding Norman's desire; yet that appears to be slowly happening.  Buying into being poached = weak character and values, as has been demonstrated by players publicly flip-flopping on LIV.

Where the money comes from and how it's infecting PGA Tour management and players, fuels the downfall of the tour.  Youngsters don't appreciate being able to play on tour for better than average money.  Lots of them want salaries and no cuts, jets, etc., which isn't good for an independent contractor profession.

The PGA Tour has always been driven by integrity, and charity... both are waning.  To compete with LIV, PGA Tour is making questionable decisions, and appearing as if a merger is in the offing.  To make matters worse, they have seriously increased the buy-in for sponsors, so sponsors are dropping out.  Associated cost vs exposure value are now upside-down; leaving the PGA to avail large socialistic AT&T to step in and cover events lacking sponsors.  Nothing good is happening.  My 2 cents.

I don't see anything wrong with trying to make as much money as possible being a pro athlete.  Their careers are short compared to other professions so I don't blame them for chasing money.  A tour pro could suffer a serious injury or go into a massive slump which could potentially end their careers.  The Saudis are supposed to pour in a massive amount of cash flow into the PGA Tour which will help boost revenue for everyone involved including players.  How is that a bad thing?  This could mean that all PGA Tour players in the future could potentially be making more money across the board from bigger purses and what not.

Have to disagree with you there.

How many other sports are you able to play from 20ish until 60-70 years old professionally and make money?

Zero

Yes, like every other sport on the Planet injuries can happen but in golf they're not nearly as prevalent as most other sports.

As far as chasing money, well actually I can't go there so...

I watch both LIV and PGA Tour on TV.  However, I find LIV more interesting because of the team and individual format plus they have more talent across the board albeit some of the players are past their prime.

How do we know these guys are better than the talent rising to the top on the PGAT?

They play the same guys every time in a closed shop. Some of the guys are good and a lot of them aren't. The over the hill names aren't that good, I don't care what anybody says. Poulter, Westwood, Casey, Kaymer, Stenson, McDowell, Oosthuizen, CHIII, Bubba, Phil etc, etc. are nowhere near as good as they once were. It's a large part of the reason they took the money.

Are you not for making as much money possible the right way/legally so you can take care of your bills and family?  Would you rather see them struggle because you had a career ending injury or no longer can perform at your job?  I think not.

Please, these guys already had more than enough money to coast in and take care of several generations to come.

Hard to feel sorry for someone that has so many Ferraris they have to build another garage.

Who says I feel sorry for them?  You missed the point.  Pro athletes need to make as much money as possible because their window of opportunity to cash in is limited.  Most of them don't have the education or skills to thrive otherwise.

My enthusiasm for professional golf has definitely waned. Especially with all the politics laid bare behind it.

All the top players playing in different leagues makes any one tournament a bit less exciting. The infighting between professional golfers, especially PGA players (like Rory) that were sent as attack dogs against LIV. Jay Monahan being a complete hypocritical clown. All the vapid foreign policy takes once Saudi money flooded in. Brandel Chamblee blowing a gasket with his stupid takes and melting down. The petty interviews and opinion pieces. The rampant speculation around who's coming and going from PGA to LIV.

I just want to watch good golf. And I want to watch all the best players in the world compete together in the same tournaments.

Man.  Rahm….Bryson….keopka ok.  But gooch?  Gooch has 1 pga 1 tour win and a very similar career profile on tour to HVIII, whom most wouldn’t consider a top talent.

He's won 3 times last year on LIV.  Pretty impressive if you ask me.  He'd probably do well no matter what tour he played last year, IMO.
